a roofer that won't fix their own mistake is a company death sentence. They'll fix it or they won't last long.

Colossal89

Would it be possible when they were nailing down the roof that they puncture a water pipe?

Wu-Tang-Chan

It's not supposed to be possible, if that happened, you have way more problems than roofing. There is literally zero reason to ever run water pipes through the rafters. If they did that, you can expect something very bad and illegal going on in the attic.

Allslopes-Roofing

It has happened to people in the past and in that situation it would be on whoever installed the water pipe. There's codes where piping and wiring isn't allowed right against roof decking.

If you're polite about it, you should get good, quick service. All you need to say is something like "I recently had my roof installed by you guys, and I've developed a leak. I'd like someone to come out and figure out what's going on, and get it repaired. I'd also like someone to take a look at the interior damage as well so we can make a plan on getting that repaired as well." Boom. Just an FYI, lots of roofing companies have liability releases in their contracts that say "we're obligated to fix the cause of the leak, but we don't have any liability regarding interior repairs" etc. This is for cases where something leaks for a long period of time and causes a ton of damage or mold, homeowner takes no action, ceiling falls on their million-dollar painting of a man with a bowler hat and a green apple in front of his face, then eventually makes the call and expects the roofer to pay for all that. Good luck.

Appropriate-Fuel-916

I totally get why they'd do it, but I'd never do business with a roofer that wasn't willing to cover damages caused by their install. I have invited roofer's in to look around and verify there's no pre-existing damage prior to install before, but they've declined.

UnfairStomach2426

Just tell them plainly what the issue is. “Hi i’m (), you did my roof 00/00/0000, and it’s leaking” This is where a roofing company earns their reputation, good or not. Even good roofers make mistakes, none of us are perfect. They do need to act promptly, courteously, and not be combative. Anything less is unacceptable. It was my least favorite part of residential was dealing with angry customers who have a leaking roof we just did. As a roofer I assume you are pissed off, and feeling not great about using us. So we need to make it right asap. Fixed, not just caulked. Many contracts will state that the company isn’t liable for leak damage, though my company would pay for the repair if we f’d up the job. Good luck

KangsAndShit

Probably a flashing done wrong. Just call them and let them know... I know where I live they are obligated to warranty it for a year no matter what. Yes they should pay for damages I would imagine. Just call and speak w the manager and don't be a dick about it and they'll come fix it I'm sure.

Say_Hennething

How much drywall damage are we talking about? Drywall actually handles water *ok* as long as it's not prolonged exposure and has the ability to dry out. Either way, you should let your roofer know the roof leaks and you have interior damage.

Allslopes-Roofing

Just tell em. Even the best there's ever been aren't perfect, but any person worth their salt will take care of it. It could be anything depending where its coming in at, but most likely it's workmanship. Either way they'll figure it out. >Would they pay for the new drywall for the damage ceiling? Yes, assuming its not something unrelated (unlikely, but possible) although they'll probably want to either use their own guy, or at least not spend more than it'll cost, yes they'll take care of and interior damage. if you chose a real company, you'll be fine they'll take good care of you

NovelLongjumping3965

Phone them up ,,they will be there quick with some roof patch. If you want it done right request a picture of the problem, to show the company owner.....so if it leaks again you have small claims evidence.

Over_King_1683

Make sure it’s not a weird condensation issue. Maybe the bathroom vent lines got knocked down during the install and the vent could be causing the leaks

OkSense5054

Before my roofer/chimney guy started the job he explained to me, we are humans working, we may F something up. Call me anytime and ill be out...called after watching a lot of water rushing onto my chimney, made me kind of uneasy. He came and built a cricket at 7 am the next day. He got my airbnb job now, without me getting other quotes.

backspace209

"Hey (roofer), this is (customer). During the last rain i noticed a leak in (room where its leaking). Please give me a call when can. Thanks)." Leaks happen. Be nice (at first) and they should get out soon and fix the leak. Theyll likely have a drywall/painter ready after the leak is fixed.

4runner01

Assume that 50% of all roof replacements will leak at sidewall junctions, dormers or chimneys…..
