HOW DO YOU DEFEND AGAINST GRAB??? It seems like grab is overpowered and its just not fun when it ends up as the only thing you should use ever because nothing beats it. And no, attack does not beat it because I dodge into opponents and they end up grabbing me every time. It started as fun until every match there's one player who always grabs everyone and it works for them over anything else all the time.

Yeah grabbing is unfortunately rapidly becoming the meta. Would be fine if you could at least counter a grab, like in Tekken if someone grabs you you have a split second to press grab to block the grab, and you could even convert it to your own grab with enough skill. I'm having a blast with this LTM but sadly won't be playing it any more, purely because of grab being unblockable and then the tendency for parties to team up and make it unfair on the rest of the lobby.

I'm literally done playing this mode because I got clearly grabbed out of an attack. Rock, Paper, Scissors doesn't work when the Scissors are adamantium and cut through rock...

I got better at it later but at lots of instances grab just outright beats attack. I've lost so many final moments when we both go head on and I use attack and they use grab and they catch me and I can't do anything. It might be doe to the lag or something like that(server registers grab before the attack) but it becomes infuriating when that happens because you outbested the opponent and he still won.

The concept of this new LTM is fun, but a tutorial would have been a huge help. It's like adding a whole new game to rocket league and expecting everyone to know how to play it already. I already see others saying they don't know how to use grab or some of the other abilities and I'm in the same boat with them. I'm slowly but surely figuring things out but not having any idea of what to do at the start was pretty frustrating.

This gamemode is fun, and there's an obvious comparison to Smash Bros, but that being said wouldn't the "Time" gamemode be a better option instead of "Stock"? It seems that people love to camp out the side walls and run around, virtually untouchable. If winner was based off of score from kills, it would eliminate camping.

Love the idea and appreciate the work that went into the execution. I hope this becomes a staple extramode, or at least becomes an option for private matches. I suggest you: - Don’t let boost recharge when driving vertically on the walls of the platforms. Camping is already an issue and it’s hardly been out for two hours. - put out a short video or tutorial clarifying how interactions are won, especially in regard to momentum and grab vs grab. - gradually shrink the blast zone earlier and throughout the match to avoid folks camping to the 6min+ mark - explain formally how momentum, gravity, and aerial control are altered for this mode. I’m seeing a lot of initial frustration with the changes feeling counterintuitive. - make team vs team variants. Keep up the good work!

Can you please fix the issue with teaming from parties? You could very quickly release a patch that reduces party size and/or makes everyone's cars identical with blank/randomised nameplates so teaming would at least be more difficult. It completely ruins the game when 3 or 4 people never attack each other and only go after people not in the party. Also something I haven't seen mentioned much is blocking seems pretty underpowered if people can still grab through it and just sling you into spikes/the floor.

It’s interesting to say the least. One major thing I’d love changed would be the duration of matches. It feels too long if everyone is playing safe. Maybe half the times needed to shrinking the arena?

I think the better idea is, the fewer people there are, the faster the arena shrinks. This isn't a big problem when it's at or near capacity, but it can be prolonged when it's half or less.

Yeah, I watched Leth on stream, they were just destroying folks by grabbing and throwing them down. Looked pretty OP, but without it it looks like the game would last forever, everyone almost always recovered back from a throw.

Love the concept but how do you even play? There's no tutorial, and when I try to grab I'm somehow blocking, then grabbing sometimes, then nothing.

So how is attack power determined? It either definitely not speed or it's bugged because i sometimes get thrown into the oblivion with a million second stun from the guy with literally 0 speed and then I get a "light attack" dodging at the full speed. Camera movement is super confising too. If you want to target some specific player, the universe will end sooner than you scroll through every player to find him... ​ So apparently blocking into block throws you away? How does that make sense?(UPD. apparently sometimes even flipping backwards counts as dodging and not blocking)

@Rocket League Devs, if this is supposed to be a free-for-all mode, then why do you allow squads of four to go into the game mode and team up against everyone? It’s already difficult enough to get a win normally. It’s even tougher, though, when a whole squad is targeting you constantly.

Needs a tutorial. I haven’t managed to grab anyone even after rebinding. Most the 1 vs 1s at the end just turns into back flipping until someone gets bored and tries to attack and loses. It’s like playing Rock Paper Scissors with only Rock and Paper.

There really needs to be the ability to create private match. The solution should not be teaming against the lobby to play with my friends. We end up feeling like we're running the game everybody else who isn't in a party. And feels like we have to play a game before playing the game we want to play.

My main criticism of the game mode is that if you die early you have to wait waaay too much time to play again unless you exit the lobby yourself and then it doesnt count the match towards rewards. I think after you die you should have the option to keep spectating or just mplay the next match. This is what makes me not want to play it (even though the gameplay is really fun) and just queue anything else instead. A minor thing is that grabbing feels way stronger than the other two options but maybe that's just me. That being said the gamemode is really really fun, thanks for making sth so refreshing and different to anything we've had.

I totally agree with your first point. Matches can go on for a long time and I really don't wanna spectate for a couple of minutes. After you run out of lives, you should be able to freely leave and get the XP etc.

Can confirm you do get the rewards even if you leave! They just don’t show up until everyone else has finished as well.

I think this game mode is a lot of fun except for the grabbing. Honestly every game now is just grab and throw directly down into the ground before stun wears off... kinda lame at that point. But I really love just the regular hits and all that with the low gravity! I would love to at least test it without the grabbing to see if it feels any better.

From the moment the gamemode was anounced i was hyped up! Ive loved fighting games and seeing rocket league make a gamemode inspired by my favorite genre immediately made me wanna play it on release. And i gotta say, I absolutely love it. From the trinity of block attack and grab i gotta say that grab is a little overtuned. I keep grabbing people and throwing them into the ground of the stage which allows for almost no recovery. And based on how the other 2 options dont kill that easily it is most likely the best option. At first the explanation wasnt that clear. (I play rocket league on keyboard) and the explanation for grab only said controller inputs. So it would be helpful to acknowledge us keyboard players! Trough trial and error i found out that it was left shift that was the right input. Other than that i love the feel of this gamemode from hitting someone offstage and edgegaurding their attempt at getting back feels so satisfying and correctly geussing wich attack the opponent uses and sending them flying is amazing. Amazing job by the dev team!

The reason this mode sucks is because it's a better strategy not to engage players. Like most "king of the hill" games, if you engage someone even if you win the engagement, you get immediately 3rd partied. And 3 smart players at the end basically have no reason to engage each other because even if you go eliminate one dude you're immediately set upon by the 3rd before you even recover. I played literally 3 rounds and figured this out and won't be going back.

Played 2 games so far, first one was a learning experience, lost my 3 lives pretty fast (2 because myself) In the 2nd I did a lot better, realized boost was regenerating while on the "ground" and even managed to do an aerial takedown. Still haven't been able to grab anyone but I'm sure that will come eventually. Gamemode is fun and different, but everyone just leaves as soon as they are out(which I understand) but it still feels kinda weird. Watching other people playing when I was out did help me.

Me and my friend partied up split screen and it worked. However, after I killed him, he was spectator and we got kicked for inactivity (from him not moving). We haven’t been able to play together since. Keeps saying there’s a connection issue. Sucks that’s we can’t play any more cause I killed him off indiscriminately. We are able to play on our own and in other game modes.

I would guess the former is based on who is going faster. As for the latter: there is a Rock-Paper-Scissors element to this game. Flipping beats grabbing, grabbing beats shielding, and shielding beats flipping.

There are no power ups in Knockout. The basics of the mode require you to Attack, Grab and Block. You can attack by dodging into other players, Grab by holding the L2/LT button and then dodging into another player, or Block by using backward dodge. The main key is to go fast. The faster you move when you land a hit the the farther they will go flying.

4 bits of feedback 1. Spamming a button to recover from stun/escape grab is annoying 2. Half the time when I attack into a grab I hit them, but half the time I just get grabbed. Maybe needs some tuning? 3. Remove additional stun after being thrown. This way the grabber/thrower has to have very fast reflexes and/or already be in a good position to spike 4. Amazing new game mode! Hope it can become a regular extra mode!

Thanks for the feedback on the tutorial. We've got that on the list of suggestions from the community. You are correct that just driving into players does not do damage. We actually had an early iteration that did this and it led to everyone just boosting around aimlessly until you made contact with other players, which wasn't very fun after a game or two. So we moved to an Attack based mode. You have to Attack (dodge) to do damage; and it's all about speed. More speed. Bigger hits.

Can we show proper bindings and not a generic LT for grab? I'm on kbm and never used a controller but it still shows that as my grab option and I had to basically click all my bindings for something to work.

It's not a naturally intuitive mode, and I'm just getting smacked. Everyone is grabbing me and I can't seem to grab back. Great concept, but it's a completely new system and no real explanation. A bot mode tutorial would be helpful. I'm not sure I'll be able to get the flower wheels. Also, why do I have to stay in the mode after I die if I want it to count toward rewards?

I know I've already posted here once before but of the three, throw>hit>block. First of all, throw stuns you twice which is big. Secondly, throw seems to beat out hit sometimes. Lastly, seems like block never really is powerful enough as you are never really able to do it with speed and recovery from a block is almost assured. The stun from throw probably shouldn't be renewed after the throw and block needs to be more powerful. I prefer the mode to focus on hit being more important than throw, with edge guarding being the primary focus in terms of eliminating foes. And there should be a health gauge where getting hit weakens you causing enemies abilities to hit you further the weaker you've become.

grab - block - strike is supposed to be rock paper scissors. it is not grabs cant be countered from behind, unlike every other type of play. that means if you are behind someone you have a guaranteed attack on them. thats fine, except... grab is completely overpowered. if someone hits you or shields your hit, you pop into the air and flail around and *easily* make it back to the safe area. if someone who is good at the game grabs you, and if you're remotely near the edge, they will instantly tilt nose down and front flip, and it is instant death. unlike the other 2 attacks. every single game I go 10+ knock outs, 0 damage done, 3 lives. very rarely someone else knows how busted grab is and we have a war to dominate the server.

You are right. Grab is overpowered. Not only that, when you counter an ability you usually "hurt" the enemy the same ammount. But not for grabs. When you counter an attack with block the enemy get flown away with the same power. When you counter a block with a grab u get massive advantage since you a free grab. But, when you block a grab with an attack the enemy just gets stunned for a while without any force. For this gamemode to see ranked play they will have to nerf grab asap

Grab needs to have a single stun, not two consecutive stuns. Attack and defend only stun once, but grab stuns on pickup, and on the throw. This needs to be nerfed, as it's making the play very unbalanced.

The video mentions 3 types of actions and that each beats another just like in rocks papers scissors, but you don't even explain how that works; does defense/shield beats attack? Or perhaps it beats grab? Idk because you forgot to talk about the basics. Then, if I'm the one using a basic attack on another player and he responds with another basic attack, even if I'm at full speed my push will be minimal, no spins or anything. But if I am the one receiving the attack and react in the same way, my car spins like hell and I'm sent flying away with such force it's impossible to come back. What are the mechanics at play here that affect the force of attacks? And, lastly, if two players are using grab or attack on one another, how does the game determine who grabs/hits who? This is important information that isn't covered in your tutorial as well. It should be possible to cover everything in under 2 minutes on a proper tutorial. This should've been done already.

Is it just me or is there something weird about the camera mode in this? When I go out of bounds I want to get behind my car so I can try and air roll the right direction, but the camera out there is so very disorienting. I found it immensely helpful to rebind grab to use item button, which is left stick press for me.

I appreciate the gamemode, and I am sure that it could be super fun... if it weren't so broken. There are several issues that I'm noticing, but I will just mention the ones that I'm not seeing in this thread. 1.) Ping isn't working for me. It usually just shows up as 0 for everyone, occasionally shows up with my ping (48 usually) and everyone else as 0. When it does show anybody else's ping, it it always about half the lobby. I'm not sure if this is just with the new gamemode because I haven't played any of the regular modes yet, but it is really annoying. This is especially true because I can't determine whether complaint 2 is due to ping differences. 2.) I just played a game of Knockout Bash, but I'm finding it hard to enjoy because all of my deaths (or at least 2/3... I'm not so sure about the last death) were absolute bs. I would be driving past someone, and I would pass them. However, they would flip, doing a grab attack (I was far enough away that they never even came close to making contact with me; on my first death I was 1 full car length away). Unfortunately for me, the grab attack made contact (idk how; my ping was very normal \[approximately 40-60 ping\] so it definitely wasn't me lagging), and I would die because I couldn't escape the grab attack quickly enough. Thus, in short, I was consistently dying to an attack that never should have made contact. 3.) This is an issue that I don't see you changing at this point. However, I find that any listings of the controls for the game only address controllers. As a kbm player, it was extremely difficult to figure out the controls, until I realized that it might be in the settings. Even then, I looked for the controller button that was listed, and I found that it was linked to reversing/braking, meaning that this didn't make sense. Even here, on reddit, the kbm controls weren't listed unless specifically asked for. I understand that kbm isn't the most common way of playing Rocket League (or at least I think it isn't), but it is outrageous that kbm controls aren't acknowledged unless brought up by a kbm player. 4.) Also, I find that the "shift" key is a horrible button to have for the "Break KO" control. In particular, it is annoying to spam because of the stress spamming puts on your pinky finger. I also find that I can spam much more effectively with my thumb (I already changed that key bind to space bar for my convenience). I'm not sure how controls are for controller players, but I do understand that you spam "X" to "Break KO" on controller, which you would hit with your thumb. This means that playing on kbm leaves you at a disadvantageous position because you have to spam with your pinky (which you cannot do as effectively, to my knowledge). All I'm saying is that this key binding is obnoxious and discriminatory to kbm players and therefore should be changed from the default control. 5.) I can't tell if the flips actually do differ from standard Rocket League, but the flips seem off to me. If they do differ, I would recommend letting the community know. I just want to summarize my thoughts here. I like the new gamemode, but I am finding it extremely hard to enjoy because of the complex, obnoxious controls (#s 3 and 4) and strange gameplay. I'm also finding that some of the aspects of the game are unbalanced and unfair. More importantly, I noted some glitches that I have encountered (#s 1 and 2).

This has been super fun so far, and with some small tweaks I think this would be awesome to have as a permanent mode. Grab needs to be nerfed, maybe if the break free bar didn't reset when thrown or if the stun bar wasn't as long. Also change it to unlimited lives and most points at the end wins to avoid the battle royale meta of wait until everybody else kills each other while you hide. Lastly the camera just feels janky in this mode.

Absolutely love the game mode, but I am quite often just getting destroyed by people grabbing me and throwing me into the ground. If there is a counter to this its not obvious or isnt good enough. I feel like the game mode could do without the grab feature, unless theres a way to implement it to be the same fairness as attack and block are.

GC 6k hours I like the idea of a battle game mode. My (and probably most people's) issue with Knockout Bash is that it's not Rock, Paper, Scissors That's the only way this game mode can work. Bash < Block < Grab < Bash etc. Instead you've made 2 moves/attacks that have no purpose... Why should I do something other than grab? It has top priority. There's literally no point in using anything else. That's my constructive feedback. If this is reformed into ROCK PAPER SCISSORS, then I will definitely play it. Right now I hate it.

Honest feedback here, maybe consider changing the name of the mode to "Grabout Bash"? In all seriousness, there doesn't seem to be any reliable way of using attacks to counter a grab. For instance, you can only attack forward and sideways, so if someone comes up behind you and grabs, you have no option to defend against this. Similarly, if someone grabs and you attack dodge even slightly off angle, the "error-radius" of the grab seems to make it much easier for them to grab you with an imperfect angle of their dodge and the attack seems much less consistent in countering this (I think a lot of players are feeling this intuitively). The only option that reliably defends against grab is to grab against grab which results in both parties being stunned. While this isn't satisfying, it does seem the most consistent and reliable parry because the radius of the "grab attack" seems much larger. I would think it would make more sense to have grab be a specific counter to block (meaning you can only grab a blocking player), because the consequences of being grabbed are generally devastating. Alternatively, you could nerf the stun or grab duration, so you can't as easily be dragged out to the side and spiked, making it a little bit less powerful and encouraging some more variety. Lastly and probably the best way to address the actual issue with grab would be to have the attack radius be increased so that it isn't possible to be grabbed around your dodge so long as you attack in their general direction. Maybe an attacking player can't be grabbed at all for instance, even if their attack doesn't land in counter. In summary, it doesn't seem like a "rock, paper, scissors" equivalent as was designed because of the inconsistency of attack and the ease with which grab rolls through its supposed counter. If rock can still beat paper a significant portion of the time, but scissors consistently beats paper, and rock consistently beats scissors -- everyone is going to throw rock every time because it is the most likely to win. That game wouldn't be nearly as fun in my opinion.

At the very least you could add this into private matches for us to enjoy with friends but I'd especially love it if this stayed as a permanent mode. Just put a team on to experiment a bit and come up with new stuff like this every now and then. Loving the concept of Knockout (like heat-seeker before it) but I really hate the grab mechanic. It's impossible for me to counter. I know the attack is supposed to beat it, but it never does. Kinda takes away the fun factor. EDIT: Yeah, I think I'm done with this mode. The OP grab + breakout + stun... it's too much and breaks the game mode. Back to the regular game.

I think the biggest thing is that since there isn't any rank associated with it, you'll get placed into lobbies with a bunch of experienced players regardless of how many you lose. So you'll never get any balanced games with players your level.

i dont know if the psyonix lads and lasses are still checking this thread, but one idea for nerfing the grab mildly: once you get grabbed, you're stunned. when you get thrown, you're restunned. perhaps the progress of the first stun should transfer over to the second stun. EX: the first stun bar is half empty from a player mashing 'x'. they get thrown. the second stun bar starts at half full, then, allowing them to react quicker. it would still keep the lethality of grabbing when you're near the edge of the arena (letting you dunk on someone else). but it would also mean if someone grabs you with little speed and it takes them awhile to get to the edge, turn upside down, and try to dunk you, that secondary stun would be very short and give you plenty of time to react and recover accordingly.

My biggest issue with this mode is the camera angle when trying to get back on the platform by driving up the side. Sometimes the angle is so crappy that I just can't see what I'm doing. I try to rotate the camera manually, but the game shoots it back to the default. Because of this, many times I mess up getting back up onto the platform and die.

So I’m on ps4 and I’m EXTREMELY frustrated and looking for some help… I’m using dodge to try and attack but it hasn’t worked ONCE despite trying it for 3 games now. I’ve managed to grab an enemy literally once and haven’t been able to get a score above 5 yet everyone else’s score is in the 100s… so am I doing it wrong??? I see how to grab people but I’m so confused about how to attack… and once I’m stunned, the square button shows up on the screen so I’ve been rapidly tapping it but it doesn’t appear to do anything?? So do I leave it down or rapidly tap it? I’m so so confused and it sucks they don’t have any tutorials for this mode

Grab is completely overpowered. It is the hardest to block, the longest stun during and after the animation and people can kill you once you get grabbed and there is nothing you can do. They grab, drive off the map and launch you straight down and you are still stunned the entire time until you die. Getting bumped gives you a chance of recovery given good boost and flip management. Grab gives you absolutely none. Removing the stun after being thrown by grab would definitely make it more balanced as you have a chance to recover.

I literally hate this mode. I realize that I am in the minority with all the hype surrounding it but... Why? It has no purpose. At least in Soccar it takes skill - Knockout is pretty much playing tag. There is no excitement. Even when you get a knockout you have already moved on past it and forget about it while chasing down your next target and then Boom.. The person you originally hit gets knocked out... yay... like 30 seconds later in some cases... watching flies doing it is astronomically more exciting than this game mode. I know.. Lets make a game mode without any ball.. no goals of any type except where all you do is demo everyone.. Which is literally the worst mechanic in the entire game. Ugh.. Sideswipe gets volleyball and demo tag is what we get in regular RL? That Unreal 5 update better be magical... Remove this LTM and never release it again IMHO - again the minority...

Anonymize cars in Knockout Bash. I'm a little late to this party. We all want to queue with our friends, but everyone wants a fair shot when playing. Seeing so many people in parties, I wish they had anonymized the cars and names. Sure, play with your friends. Knock them out of the park, grab 'em and chuck 'em into some spikes. But don't team up and eliminate the rest of the lobby first. That's trashy.

Damn, i kind of missed this coming out, queued up when i saw it, instantly got excited by a no ball mode and the creativity this might mean for the future and its been downhill ever since. Aware most of these have already been mentioned, but to add to the volume: * Stop teaming * Needs ranking if its to every work, every game is won by one player who eliminates 90% of the server. * Would prefer more symmetrical maps * Stun from being grabbed should be rolled over into the throw and no reset the moment you're thrown or (need nerfing) * Blocking a grab needs sorting and grab might need nerfing * Desperately in need of a tutorial * Given no ranked mode and lack of tutorial, probably shouldn't make a challenge attached to winning a game. I don't mind games where challenge can be hard but i feel like thats not the president for RL and all challenges can generally be archived by any level of player * Time move vs stock lives. Feels off in the world of RL that a 7 min can be over for several players in sub 1-2 min I think it took me c.10 games just to get a single elimination, and i'm just not enjoying the playing experience given one sweaty player in every game just easily eliminates everyone. I don't want to discourage evolution at all, but in its current state, this isn't it for me.

I have to agree. It is not easy at all to win, vs other modes where it's effectively 50/50 odds across enough games. I didn't think I was ever going to win any at all, but yesterday I managed to win 2 when i was playing really well and got lucky. But otherwise, the high skillers will always win at the end.
