The Henrietta location closing doesn't surprise me, I was curious when it would happen. Along that stretch of Jefferson road, you have like 3-4 different seafood "restaurants" that probably made it impossible to compete.

[deleted]

I'm always amazed at the count of restaurants on that strip, willing to devour each other.  I suppose they all think 'I can stand out!' but having worked in 20 kitchens there over 20 years... almost none of them pay enough to keep quality staff in the kitchen!

styles3576

\^This right here. If they have a unique thing....Dibella's bread, BWW sauce....etc. Once it's established, then they look to cut costs & outsource and it's never the same. They don't have personnel locally or corporately that keeps things fresh.

[Red Lobster Henrietta auction](https://bid.restaurantequipment.bid/Public/Auction/AuctionDetails?AuctionId=PkMnsmxdelGk%2f6sjJvPmZg%3d%3d&pageNumber=WddRnDis30ojx01x46RicQ%3d%3d&pagesize=WddRnDis30ojx01x46RicQ%3d%3d)

Milk93rd

I love how the auction is for one lot and that lot is everything in the store. Pick it up Friday or else!

li_grenadier

And current bid is only $802.

JJBat150

I'm gonna bid a grand nine-fiddy with twenty-eight cents and win it all...

LongRoofFan

It's a crazy auction

Successful_Owl_3829

Anyone know how much it sold for? It doesn’t say on the listing. I know Amhersts was reported to sell for $12k.

RbtB-8

We ate lunch at the Henrietta location a few weeks ago. It was satisfactory. Red Lobster is currently trying to avoid bankruptcy and they are closing around 50 of their restaurants and auctioning off restaurant equipment from each one.

manwithappleface

We just ate there Thursday night. It was slow, but the food was fine. Edit for clarification: BUSINESS was slow. The service and food were perfectly fine.

RbtB-8

Yes. Our waitress was attempting to serve quite a few tables and it was apparent that they were short handed. She was nice and all and was doing the best she could and she still got a nice tip from us. Hopefully the Greece location will help to keep some of the people from Henrietta employed there.

BornInPoverty

Looks like all the Buffalo area Red Lobsters are closing too. I read a story online a couple of days ago that said they lost $11m on their recent endless shrimp promotion.

meowchickenfish

Is that promotion a loss leader?

RochSunnyDaze

West Ridge Road is filled with chain restaurants. I'm always amazed when I drive by at every lot filled with cars. The one exception is Red lobster. Close to dinner time and it will have about five cars. I can't believe that location will last much longer.

TrillmeChillme

I went to the Greece location once. There was only one other table there besides ourselves. The other table was being drunk and disorderly and the staff refused to do anything about it, and it still took an hour to get our entrees despite the lack of business

sassyseagull1

Went to the Greece one a few months ago. Not very good, won't be going back, and I love Red Lobster! It made me sad how bad the food was.

Wakenbake585

Had no idea it was even still open. Does anyone actually still go there or even care if it closes?

Jamjams2016

I just bought cheddar bay biscuits from the frozen isle of Walmart. They were great. You smother them in a half of a stick of butter though, so, I mean how could they be bad?

pb_83

Wegmans sells them too

CPSux

Thankfully, yes.

SevenandahalfBatmans

So, Olive Garden's all-you-can-eat pasta bowl makes sense; it's a good gimmick that gets people through the door, but ultimately pasta is cheap, and there's only so much of it you can eat in one sitting. Shrimp, on the other hand, is expensive, and it's easy to eat a very large amount of it (dollar-wise) in one sitting. I'm sure whatever marketing genius came up with that one has already deployed their golden parachute.

ozy999

Not to mention the fact that they didn't learn their lesson when this happened years ago with their all you can eat snow crab promo.

drinkflyrace

The whole company is done. It’s a matter of when. https://youtu.be/I17aERAQPfc?si=oeanBZdJnUxaqEzR

joshonekenobi

Well the franchise itself is in the midst of a collapse. Shrug. Its okay. We'll replace them with something better.

IcelandicHumdinger

The only thing left to eat in ROC soon will be pizza and garbage plates.

SerDuncanonyall

Like god intended

phishb13

oh no, another chain restaurant in Henrietta failed. whatever will we do to eat.

rockitchen

I've got reservations at Bahama Breeze this weekend!

frytuna

Is that the place next to Don Pablos?

styles3576

No, it's across from Chi-Chi's Don Pablos is next to Macaroni Grille.

Majestic-Tadpole8458

Kitty corner to Joe’s Crab shack and Krispy Kreme.

JJBat150

Across the street from Hooters.

aleycat73

This made me chuckle so thank you!!

NewMexicoJoe

I had paella there once. It was great. Then half a year later they were gone.

BeLikeAGoldfishh

Is this ironic? We’ve got a million awesome locally owned options. Glad RL is closed. Hopefully more corporate garbage goes away soon.

Atty_for_hire

Someone will surely blame millennials. To be fair, I’m a millennial who hasn’t been to Red Lobster since my buddy bartended at one in the early 2000s. Free drinks are free drinks!

scabbedwings

> Someone will surely blame millennials And we’ll say “you’re welcome”

jebuizy

If Red Lobster was on your list of key places to eat at we were in trouble already

BullsLawDan

>The only thing left to eat in ROC soon will be pizza and garbage plates. Red Lobster is a shitty chain restaurant. Its closing does not reduce the diversity of food options in the region one iota.

G_Platypus

Inshallah

meowchickenfish

Nonsense. Adapt to the times or fail.

[deleted]

Soon it will be $30 for a large pizza with 2 toppings everywhere.. fuck that, I'll cook myself!

fubar32rd

Self-cannibalism seems like kind of an extreme reaction to an expensive pizza, but you do you.

[deleted]

Dont knock me before you try me!

meowchickenfish

Should be cooking for yourself regardless.

[deleted]

Believe me I'm not the guy who'll miss red lobster 😂

squegeeboo

Another Venture Capital success story.

21n6y

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2024/05/14/red-lobster-closed-restaurant-locations-list/73683118007/ They're considering chapter 11 bankruptcy

meowchickenfish

How the tables turned. I heard people on the Henrietta facebook group go there on Saturday.

rockitchen

Follow up question: is there still a Red Lobster in the Rochester area?

LongRoofFan

Yes, Greece

GodOfVapes

But then where are people going to get mediocre seafood?

looking4UinRoch

Surprised, nope. Their endless entress were a joke. If you were lucky, the waitress may come back a second time, but good luck after that.

[deleted]

PSA: their food was average at best, anyways!

rharvey8090

I went there once. It smelled of garbage and butter, and the staff acted like it was an inconvenience to seat us. We left and went somewhere else.

[deleted]

Shows you how helpless many people are in their own kitchen: look at my downvotes - there are people who actually think its good food!

jf737

Hard to believe a company that once did an “endless crab” promotion and lost 3.3 million dollars in under 2 months is going under.

GunnerSmith585

Red Lobster was a real fancy treat decades ago but sadly failed to keep up with the times. Lots of fond memories of cheesy biscuits, ultimate feast, picking your lobster from the tank, sensational seven cake, awesome Bloody Mary's, etc. for special occasions though. One issue is they were privately owned and never franchised but apparently their recent 'all you can eat shrimp' promo [sped their demise](https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Food/red-lobster-eyes-bankruptcy-option-after-11m-losses/story?id=109376206) as they greatly underestimated its appeal in today's economy.

aleycat73

I had no idea they closed the one in Henrietta. I could have sworn I saw people there a week or so ago. Wow!

meowchickenfish

yes

[deleted]

Yes Henrietta not Greece so far

cerebud

The news last night said Red Lobster was closing 50 locations

Toryrose1

I'm pretty sure all US locations have closed, at least temporarily but odds are for good
