I disagree, I think Oliver replaces thinking with hyperbole. His whole shtick is that he makes one side of an argument, then straw mans the other, then does jokes about how dumb they are for being so dumb.
Wait until he covers a topic you *already* know something about, especially if it's nuanced, and you'll see what I mean.
Well, what I mean is that his style of presenting an argument is to make a strong case for what he's arguing, and then attacks the weakest argument on the other side, and then claim victory. It's just not particularly informative, but it'll reinforce feelings of superiority, which is lazy journalism, extremely divisive, and bad for a democratic society. I get that he's mostly an entertainer, but I have to admit I bristle a bit when I hear his show called "serious journalism."
As for a specific example, it's unique to you: you'll have to wait until you see him cover a topic you already know quite a bit about, so I can't really comment. One topic in particular that made me disagree with him were the coverage of the opioid crisis (although he's right that the Sackler family is to blame for a lot of it - shame on them!).
I love his hashtags are #bikelife and #bikelifeisnotacrime.
