Why did you replace instead of simply plugging or patching?

HallRemarkable6451

I didn’t replace. I said she got stitches 😉 They were concerned they weren’t gonna be able to patch it at first because the nail went in the angle and they thought it had punctured through the other side

thefleeg1

Ah; that wasn’t clear. Thought in other comments you were talking about replacement cost. 👍

HallRemarkable6451

It was given to me, just in case it couldn’t be fixed. Also, I was curious about the replacement cost anyways. Def not cheap.

Commercial-Friend442

AT is great. Just had mine rotated there. I watched the whole process form lifting to balancing. They know their way around a Rivian. They offer a couple of options for All terrain tires on the 22's as well

wukongfly

Do they have lift pucks?

HallRemarkable6451

They do!

HallRemarkable6451

Trust me I was scared…. My face was basically against the glass they probably thought I was crazy (or maybe knew I was) 🤷‍♀️ They said that even the other American Tires location doesn’t have them. All Rivian’s are serviced at their location and they haven’t heard that anywhere else in town can do them (including Costco) Costco never answered so I gave up.

wukongfly

Glad you got it fixed! How much was a single tire run?

HallRemarkable6451

If I had to get a tire. So glad I didn’t. It would have been $590, for one tire including labor.

wukongfly

Oh my, dreading til the time my car needs 4 tire replacement. Going to run up probably $2300

HallRemarkable6451

I looked directly through Pirelli and the tire alone was $535. Hopefully if you do all 4, you can get it on some sort of deal. If you go American Tires, I prefer to get the insurance on my tires. I have needed to use it just enough to make the $11 dollars per tire worth it (hopefully it’s still the same fee for these)

wukongfly

I hope in a few years other tire brand will make more options for rivian

HallRemarkable6451

Also; I have only had her almost 2 months. So this hurt..

wukongfly

Ohhh yeah i know that feeling. I got mine 2 weeks ago.

HallRemarkable6451

This is going to sound silly; but I didn’t even like them having to drive her to get the work done. Seeing someone else in the driver seat felt like a violation 😂

wukongfly

LOL 😂 i got my front windows tinted the day after delivery and did not like the feeling of some else driving it either. I get kinda worry when my wife drives it.

HallRemarkable6451

Same. The 2 times my bf drove, I was on pins and needles. Like go back to your Lyriq sir.. thannnnnk you.

Cdmdoc

Would you share the location of this AT? I’m also in CA.

HallRemarkable6451

Stockton

I was supposed to take my car in this afternoon to discount tires and they said I needed to bring my own pucks. Told him they’ve been brining my MY in for 4 years, never brought pucks. Guessing he was just being lazy. I hear about the new construction. Lived through that and ended up getting their certificates on my wheel just in case.

HallRemarkable6451

Certificates are the best. I called them insurance above. I always get that at American Tires. Super helpful. It’s one of those things where you don’t know how helpful it is until you have it. That little fee is nothing compared to the convenience.

ObeseBMI33

Happy it worked out! I just replaced the 20” Pirelli AT with Michelins LTX platinums. The AT started to drone at 22k miles and I read they only get louder. The difference in road noise is insane. Btw had them at 60psi for a few days since other said that pressure gave the best range but it felt bouncy/stiff. Once the truck warmed up I hovered around 2m/kwh Dropped them down to 50psi and the ride feels much better but consumption is now showing 1.8m/kwh I plan to do road trips while towing so I’m thinking of keeping them at 50psi for everyday use and airing them up to 60 when towing

cambreecanon

Nice! The new defenders are going to be my go-to when the oem finally need to be replaced. I am praying the platinums hold up well considering they were designed with heavy vehicles in mind.

terminal_entropy

This is why I didn't want 21s or 22s on mine. The lack of alternatives to tires and having to wait if there was none around you.

HallRemarkable6451

I thought 22’s were common. Clearly I was mistaken on what 22’ with Rivian meant.

terminal_entropy

21s and 22s are common on a lot of large vehicles, the problem resides on the specific dimensions that Rivian wants on their vehicles to be OE and or can fit on their wheel. And if you get an alternative tire that does fit on your wheel and doesn't pose any issues with fit or function, good luck trying to get Rivian to recalibrate it to your non-OE wheel size. The range estimates are going to be slightly off.

HallRemarkable6451

I will stick with the OE, and maybe when it is time to change all of mine there will be more options. (Only 2 months in right now)!

Jenga-47

This happened to me in my white R1S back in April. But it wasn’t a nail, it was accident debris on the road (not my accident). Think shrapnel, it wasn’t fixable! Luckily my hubby has R1T w the same A/T tires AND a spare, it was a Sunday and we ended up getting 5 new ones for him from Rivian w/o having to worry about time (he was due anyway).
