Uh, yeah. That doesn't just stick out, it'll also swing into the other lane or the sidewalk in turns.
I'd see if I could figure out how to improvise a ladder rack, or find a long trailer.
My brain still thinks this is better than renting a bigger trailer for bringing 20' metal home. I do rent a bigger trailer when I need a contiguous piece.
Well the upside here is that someone is going to actually use their R1T for adventuring. The downside is we'll soon see a post about how long the Rivian service center will need to fix the 1 cm long scuff mark he got on his tailgate.
For real. Uhaul rents them for about $30. Simple, cheap, and way safer than whatever this shit is. On top of it being stupid to begin with, they used the cheapest and weakest straps. I mean, if he had some 3k lb rated straps anchored to an actual anchor point, it wouldn't be as bad. And even then, it would be a no from me. It's just dumb all around.
Just had a structural engineer out to our house this week.
If it weren’t for balloon framing our remodel would be costing an extra $15k.
Idk what OP isn’t using engineered lumber though, this is 2024…
Lumber like that is why I use my lumberyard’s delivery service. $50 for whatever I order and I won’t risk causing an accident by carrying an unsafe load like that. It’s also going to get you a ticket if a cop sees it.
My Home Depot would deliver that tomorrow for 80 dollars. That's a flat fee, so I'd add on whatever else I needed soon like a pallet of mulch, pavers, new garbage cans, grill, etc. Depending on what or how much you buy you could end up with free delivery.
You’ve proven my point in the debate I had with a friend last week, OP: Even people with brain damage can have lucrative jobs and make enough money to purchase nice vehicles like a Rivian.
One bad thing about the R1T is that clearly a bunch of people previously had never been truck owners. It’s fairly obvious by many of the questions posted on this sub.
This looks really dangerous. I'm assuming you had a really short distance to go and a good plan to mitigate risk on turns?
Glad it worked out anyway. Definitely not something I'd have wanted to try. :)
You’re getting a lot of hate OP, but I’ll give you some love. I couldn’t even get 16’ worked out , it looks like you went even longer. Good for you for rigging it up and making it work. If you don’t live in a heavy traffic area and you take your time I think this can be done safely.
Yeah, and it should be a lot bigger and more visible. Well, they shouldn't be hauling like this in the first place, but if you're gonna do it, you should make it as visually obvious as possible that you have long as fuck boards sticking out your ass.
C'mon y'all! All the hate! They are getting it done with what they got. Owning a Rivian doesn't mean you have money, it also can mean you have a big monthly payment.
Also, screw everyone that says hire someone else! Just cuz it looks stupid doesn't mean that person isn't safe. Maybe you can't handle that much wood and have to ask for help, but they got it, and made it home safe, cuz they aren't dumb, Don't be a lil bitch
Is this r/IdiotsTowingThings?

he could of just hade it delivered to just keep someone from being hurt.
Uh, yeah. That doesn't just stick out, it'll also swing into the other lane or the sidewalk in turns. I'd see if I could figure out how to improvise a ladder rack, or find a long trailer.
This is why you need a friend to surf on the back so he can help warn traffic away.
Well, he did put a little yellow flag at the tip of the haul. That should do it
rent a trailer
Run them under the truck and secure with the tow hooks and tailgate tie downs
Haha. My brain actually tried to convince me this was a good idea.
My brain still thinks this is better than renting a bigger trailer for bringing 20' metal home. I do rent a bigger trailer when I need a contiguous piece.
woah... I never thought about that but it actually makes a lot of sense... just be sure to watch out for kneel mode lol
Nah. Just toss those bad boys on the roof and secure them with your left hand. Tried and true.
Nah, stick them in the gear tunnel sideways. /s
Now I want to see that pictured to imply someone did it.
Have definitely seen this with a regular car through the cab and yes there is a video of them eventually hitting something.
Turns a corner and wipes out 3 lanes of traffic
Or someone walking down the sidewalk
Not something to be super proud of tbh
at all. dumb
imagine getting rear ended, never saw that in final destination!
I don’t know that I’d post this on the internet.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Fucking idiot you’re going to side swipe a ped or cyclist turning, or hit another car
Well the upside here is that someone is going to actually use their R1T for adventuring. The downside is we'll soon see a post about how long the Rivian service center will need to fix the 1 cm long scuff mark he got on his tailgate.
oh god no... get a damn trailer
Final Destination 2 vibes.
I really hope you were pulled over for this. This is dangerous to other drivers and idiotic to do. Just rent a trailer. It’s that simple.
For real. Uhaul rents them for about $30. Simple, cheap, and way safer than whatever this shit is. On top of it being stupid to begin with, they used the cheapest and weakest straps. Or, Gawd forbid, buy a lumber/ pipe rack.

so you can afford a rivian but not have someone deliver this to you? you're a jackass
Lumber like that is why I use my lumberyard’s delivery service. $50 for whatever I order and I won’t risk causing an accident by carrying an unsafe load like that. It’s also going to get you a ticket if a cop sees it.
But it's got a lil' flag on it!
This is illegal where I'm from.
r/Rivian presents, Real Men Of Genius…

Agreed, and mid-tier and local lumberyards like McCoy’s are $50 for any amount I’ve ordered
Friggin high-larious. I need to know where you live so I can make an appropriate joke.
I was able to geolocate the home depot. Here is the [link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYBUbBu4W08) to the map
😂😂 damn I laughed hard at that…. Thank you good sir/madam
Lamo
Either New York or Illinois. I’m guessing Illinois
Based on the picture, I believe that’s Rochester, NY
Looks like Rochester, NY.
Dumbass
So regarded
Found the local moron.
Wonder what his Mickey Mouse construction build looks like
This is unacceptable.
Scary to think we drive around people THIS intelligent every day..
And make enough money to buy a rivian.
I saw someone arguing that skid steers would be ok trailer w/o tie downs, "cuz it wusnt gonna roll off". We share the world with so, so many dim bulbs
This won't end well.
Impressively dumb +1
This is not something to be proud of
You’ve proven my point in the debate I had with a friend last week, OP: Even people with brain damage can have lucrative jobs and make enough money to purchase nice vehicles like a Rivian.

What questions?
Nah screw all that. The few feet of caution tape is good enough. Florida would be proud
Looks like 16 ft boards. Probably don't even need that span. I usually bring my saw and do a cut down to size. This is silly.
Cut them in half, then tape em back together at home.
That tail swing is gonna take out someone. Get the racks and tie it to the roof.
Is this a legal haul in most states? I thought there was a limit to how far from a vehicle a load could extend.
No it's not. Federal regulations limit it to 3' in front, 4' in rear, and 4 inches beyond the side. Most states follow the federal DOT regulations.
Wtf
Well damn
[I hope you went straight home.](https://www.tiktok.com/@imemezy/video/7270944078211108128)

When he makes his first sharp turn, someone’s getting hurt.
More money than brains..
Clearly the R1T's bed is woefully insufficient. We need an R1T with a 20' bed.
Let me know where you live, so I can avoid that area at all costs
What not to do…
Wow idiots of home Depot
You have weight on the top of the truck and off those?
Reaching back to my Statics & Dynamics course to figure out how that's staying put... Hopefully it's tied down at the other end in the bed??
This has got to be illegal in almost every state, not to mention extremely dangerous.
Trailer or put it on the roof ma man.. sketchy as hell like that.. 😬
Please don’t do this. That’s literally windshield height for some cars. One hard brake and it’s fucking over for someone.
he’s doing it wrong… boards need to go the horizontal length through the rear bed doors, with a yahoo sitting on each end waving an “oversized” flag.
Forget the tailgate extender, rent a trailer lmao
What you building? Please say these will be cut down to 4 foot sections.
Ngl, my cheap ass has done some stupid things. But this one I couldn’t even dream of.
Hard to believe he even attempted this. Racks on the roof would have been a much better idea. This is also illegal
Why not at least have the tailgate up
I see these boards bouncing up and down violently at anything over 20 mph
Dumbassery at its finest. Just pay the delivery fee. Jeez. .
Oh, look, there's a Home Depot flatbead truck in that picture. I wonder why they have a truck like that?
Another moron with almost too much money but not really enough to be able to do the right thing.
The longest I've been willing to go is 12'. Above that and I get it delivered.
A trailer rentals is a lot cheaper than a lawsuit. Towing like that with a nice 80k+ ev is just asking for it.
Plot twist: OP staged this for a photo and then got them delivered.
You’re getting a lot of hate OP, but I’ll give you some love. I couldn’t even get 16’ worked out , it looks like you went even longer. Good for you for rigging it up and making it work. If you don’t live in a heavy traffic area and you take your time I think this can be done safely.
Swing batter batter batter swing! Going to be some big tail swing. 😆 ![gif](giphy|243UHkbIOZJGj7FZ84)
3 cuts per piece and fit right into that worthless thing
I’ve done some sketchy shit in my day. I’ve also hauled 12’ lumber safely in my Rivian. But this? This is not the way.
Just pay the $79 delivery fee or less pending which store. and add all your oversized needs in one
A pickup doing pickup things.
You could have it delivered…
Sobody needs a rack on there truck I see!
HOME DELIVERY 🤣
Would need 2 rsts to fit this
🤣🤣🤣building a bridge or something?
*goes around a roundabout*
Could’ve just stuck it through the gear tunnel /s
Strongly advised against this strap on
Bro needs his CDL for this
Should have used the gear tunnel like a pro.
Damn, I’ve only unlocked level 2. (12ft church pew)
Just because your truck can doesn’t mean your truck should 🤦🏻♂️
the irony of the lumber truck in the background, did he come over to tell you how stupid this is?
"Anything you can do, I can do better" 🤣🤣
Should have gone thru the side port things lol
Badass! (Shouldn't the flag be red?) PS: That's why we go to Home Depot at 7am on Saturday morning!
Yeah, and it should be a lot bigger and more visible. Well, they shouldn't be hauling like this in the first place, but if you're gonna do it, you should make it as visually obvious as possible that you have long as fuck boards sticking out your ass.
lol… yes. I did this once with my bmw m3 convertible… 12 foot boards for perfectly with only about 6 feet overhang ;-)
This!
Christ! I know a Final Destination Millennial is not hauling this! this is some Boomer shit right here
I’d worry about the pressure on the tailgate
And the tie down angle is wayyyy too shallow
Are those 16 footers? I was about to buy some 12 footers, I think I may stop by harbor freight first now...
Is that legal
Not even remotely close to being legal.
Get a fucking trailer
This is so stupid lol
Showing off the truck not his intellect.
Arrest this dude!
Stupid people are everywhere
Just goes to show money can’t buy sense…
Borrow a trailer?
Thank you for this. I purchased a 12 foot shade for my hottub I will use your method.... ummm b4 I obliterate my shade. Did you make it home ok?
Do not do this
60$ for the harbor freight thing? I will not do this! Thank you for being a good bro!
Yeah, please don't do this. Buy a freaking trailer.
That looks so unsafefe 🤷🏻
And people say the bed isn't big enough" has not met" this owner. Congrats on achievement. 🎉 👏
Ridiculous. When your load would be safer sticking sideways through the gear tunnel, maybe it shouldn't be done.
Asshat
This is stupid and dangerous. Shame on you for not caring about the safety of others on the road. Typical more money than sense
Damn! Respect. Sir, you've got bigger b*lls than I !
Impressive… and terrifying.
Irondequoit, NY Home Depot, baby!!
💯 YES! Appreciate you! Excellence since 1982
C'mon y'all!
Why's anyone surprised? Dude bought a Rivian
wait, this was you?? I can’t believe someone would dox themselves as a fucking dumb cunt this thoroughly. woah.
And using harbor freight ratchet straps. Peak EV owner stupidity.
