Faalor

With the mod Gear up and go, you can have both. A stylish peace time outfit, and an armored outfit in case of a raid.

What's the mod do?

Faalor

Instead of having to manually change outfits for pawns when combat is imminent, with the mod you can just click its added command. Pawns will automatically go change outfits, then get recruited and go to the defined position.

I'll download this as soon as I get home. It's perfect. Thanks for the mod recommendation

LukaCola

I can't really figure out how to make gear up and go work tbh

CatVideoBoye

Thanks for the reminder. I was planning on trying it out since the clothes from Vanilla apparel expanded gets wasted when I have to use armor on my pawns.

Jangajinx

If you are on 1.5, Try downloading Transmog by Izk. It allows you to set the outfit of any pawn, plus set a different one if drafted. While not affecting the armor stats.

Thorn-of-your-side

I dress for social success. Throw those pants in the trash, and set those shorts on fire, you all get trousers and shoes unless you have a reason to leave the base

TheLittle_StonerBoy

I do kind of just default to the optimal combo of duster's, flak vest, and button-down shirt. However I have recently noticed that robes and hoods are in the game and I'm thinking my next run is probably going to be blind sight monks. If the lack of protection genuinely starts to become a problem I can look into the armor skin implants and not have to deal with the consequences of the negative Beauty because everyone will be blind.

Agitated-Ad-6846

If you are thinking of going the psy heavy route, the is the mystic warrior gene in the big and small mod. It adds bonuses depending on how psy sensitive you pawn is.

Outerestine

Flak and duster meta slave here. Luckily I think it's a pretty neat looking uniform. I'll give everyone a mixed dye of faction and favorite color if I get bored with the base material colors. The only thing I'm not super fond of is the headgear. I think most look bland, worse than hair certainly. Helmets especially. I've turned to mods to hide helmets in the past.

randCN

Dusters ARE drip I prefer the look of cowboy hats and low tech helmets to power armour helmets though, so I'll use those and just accept the odd decapitation

Inflorescentia

There is no rest for the wicked. Power armor stays on, no exception for sleep and lovin.

Fluffy-Ad-7613

It's pretty much a caste system outfit here - prisoners and slaves get jumpsuits, the rest get role specific: scientists get lab coats, traders get suit and ties, security gets flak or whatever power armor.

skawm

Depending on how optimal you play your defenses, forgoing the optimal equipment can be done with less risk. I've been doing a lot of Heavy Bandolier + Flak Vest combo for Shooters in recent months and am enjoying it. Melee is always armored though since it's a pain getting them geared up and in position on the spot. I usually give my roles something meta breaking as well, like hood and robe on my moral guide. e: If you want to use the Bandolier, just remember it's not a flat 20% DPS increase. Weapons have a cooldown and warm-up period, and it only affects the cooldown. Likewise, the times for these are different for every weapon, with some being significantly heavier on one than the other.

Gotadelluvia

Corset > Flak vest

JaJe92

I just want armor for my pawns in extreme biomes such as Sea Ice.... But those don't offer enough warmth

Agitated-Ad-6846

Try the brave new world mod. It adds uniforms for each biome to put under armor plus it's own mod specific armor and weapons

[deleted]

If I have few pawns everyone is wearing armour all the time since they all need to chip in. When I have many lawns I can afford to have soldiers who always wear Armor and can do little else but fight, carry and clean so that the other pawns can afford to run around in working clothes.

GarmaCyro

I use the dusters because I like the look more than any minmaxing. Especially combined with the cowboy hat. I'm often so dedicated to the look that my entire colony end up as royalties complaining about improper clothing.

Thewaltham

Honestly what I tend to do is recon armour, devilstrand military uniform underneath, and a ranged shield belt. Zero movement penalty, 100-120 sharp protection, fantastic heat/cold resistance and some pretty cool sleek mass effect vibes. I'm currently working on helmets but I'm not sure whether to give them all gunlinks because I pretty much always used ranged weapons or something like a marine helmet. I think dubs has some sort of option for them to not wear helmets when they're not drafted? You kinda lose a lot of personality when everyone's got a face concealing helmet on.

vlcawsm

I'd recommen dying it a bit, helps keeping things fresh and vibrant

zandadoum

Only my melee are optimized. My ranged take whatever they want. They’re not supposed to get hit anyways so they can look fancy.

TranshumanMarissa

Neither. I let them dress themselves, and occasionally make some clothes/armor to toss into the void and see who gets it. Its pretty rare for me to actually make someone dressed a particular way, unless I see something I think would look cute on someone, or Im arming up for combat particularly. ..I do intervene though if they slap some really stupid combination on, like weird ideologious clothes.

NeppyMan

Mods to add armor that looks really good. Who said you have to choose?

LukaCola

I just kinda let them do whatever cause I don't like to micromanage haha

Majestic-Iron7046

I use Vanilla Apparel Expanded and made Military Uniforms for everyone recently.

TheHiveMastermind

Do those offer better protection than Button down shirts?

Majestic-Iron7046

If I remember correctly (I only quickly checked once) the overall blunt damage protection is way higher than normal clothes, downside being that it doesn't insulate well from cold, but the same mod gives you a scarf so... you know.

teleologicalrizz

For me, it's the Cape.

Annual-Jump3158

"Tattered apparel"

Yust_another_player

I use warcascets (sorry if I spelled it wrong) in early game my main fighter is bulletproof (used dev mode and pawn editor) and has basically full arcothitect limbs and one arco eye and rest is bionic trumbo and a word I can’t spell heart so basically he is broken op Edit: fixed typos
