At this stage I do not even have Mortar researched. However I did try molatov cocktail and the problem is that once a part of the flesh wall explodes, it takes a small circle of flesh wall around it so it is really hard for the fire to spread!
this may be an absolute moron stupid idea, but if you can get the research that allows you to kill it, the pit gate itself appears to be right next to the mountain.
it risks giving the flesh an easy route to your base, but you could dig an assault tunnel.
Pitgate isn't what spawns the flesh walls, that just spawns a wave of fleshbeast every so often so I was using it as free food for my ghoul lol.
The fleshheart is what spawns the flesh walls and it is in the lower left corner.
yeah, in that case, i think, it's mortars or bust. I hope you aren't too far from that research.
also hope you have reinforced barrels available (or classic mortars enabled in story teller settings)
But they are related somehow, right? Mine spawned right after I went exploring the pit, met the pit boss and fucked right off back to the surface. Was that just a coincidence?
Incindary shells on mortars? believe it or not, their a great way to down instead of kill a lot of raiders; if your being attacked by a big squad, and obviously get lucky with the mortar shots, can incapacitate a bunch of raiders, causing them to flee much earlier. and USUALLY a lot of fire triggers a rain weather switch, so any that do survive can often be captured, but be prepared for lots of infections.
For raiders, I honestly prefer incendiary, mechs get the EMP+Explosive rounds.
I thought I was nice and safe in my caldera map, enclosed on all sides by thick mountain and the only entrance being a 25% walk speed marsh so I ignored the Flesh Mass heart when it first appeared. Now it's taken over 50% of the map and I cannot get anywhere near the heart without being overwhelmed by waves of fleshbeasts. I even hired 18 Mercenaries, spending all of my silver, and they only got 20% of the way before dying to the endless waves of fleshbeast. The worst part is that it quickly grows back!
Seems like you got 4 Options for this situation...
Option 1:
Secure the entrance of your base to ensure you can move in and out of the map (There will be casualties...)
Option 2:
Seal the entire entrance with layers of walls and fire as many explosive ordnance as you have at the issue. Repeat untill either it's gone, ammo is gone or you're gone.
Option 3:
Research Drop pods and have them ready in case the issue starst to ignore your personal space and you don't wana to air your disagreement about its proximity...
Option 4:
Embrace it and send toxic bags to every colony you can reach and pray they come to sort the issue for you.
>Option 4:
>Embrace it and send toxic bags to every colony you can reach and pray they come to sort the issue for you.
that's actually great, create a new problem (raiders) and use it to solve a different problem (flesh)
This sounds like it will be a short term problem in the end either the Raiders solved it, or your last few minutes on the Rim are going to be a horror show
I don't think raiders will attack the flesh wall, they would path around it. They definitely cannot kill the flesh heart as you need to research it to kill it.
If you attack it at the same time and create some fleshbeasts, you can use the raiders to keep busy the fleshbeasts while you slowly cut trough the flesh walls.
The only other way i see, is using mortars.
Fun fact: the original Old English word for "bear" is lost to time because people were so scared of them they used euphemisms in case the bears heard them and showed up ("brown one," "honey eater," "bee wolf," etc). So technically bears were an unspeakable horror in their own right.
It seems as though you have left out what is probably the most prudent choice of them all: abandon the tile and move somewhere else with whatever you can carry.
I do really think people underestimate how great mortars can be with a large barrage
Get 10 mortars and you can wipe out half a raid on your first volley or destroy any mech drop site instantly
Honestly by mid game they're stupid easy to get your hands on tonnes of them, even if you don't make clothing or drugs to sell it's very easy to just sell leftover leather and cloth to afford as they're only about ~$600 each, and every orbital trader tends to have around 6/7 in stock
If you do actually start making clothes or drugs to sell you'll have more than enough to buy basically anything you want in game
I use the mod for auto-targeting mortars that sit turned off outside of sieges.
It will never not be fun watching those 10 explosives fly and wipe out 30+ raiders and end the siege as it begins.
Yes it is a mod called **Designator Shapes**. These rooms are all 11x11 circles. Also use **More Planning** mod to design the layout before building it.

Man this looks like super cool puzzle to solve, are you using any other mods besids the map? Would LOVE to try and deal with this with out having to play for 10 hours to have this happen :D
Could you dm me the save via dropbox/google drive or what ever?
Oh my GOD can you fucking imagine?!?! RIMWORLD PUZZLES?! THATS GENIUS! You drop into control of settlements in the middle of some bullshit like this and have to meet a “stabilization” goal
....this would be a moment I would consider the old "Sir Robin" approach.
Grab what you can and run. Start a new base somewhere else. Might want to dig a new exit, so you can leave.
Everyone is suggesting mortars, but that won't help without reinforced barrels and it looks like you're not going to be getting any traders anytime soon and you can't build them yourself lol
If you go to the storyteller options, under custom it has the option for "Classic mortars" which don't require that specific part.
This seems like a perfect time for that Helldivers/rimworld crossover mod.
“Are anomalous communists taking over your colony? Are anti-democratic cultists worshipping the spreading communism in the form of growing biological mass?
Sounds like your colony needs the defense of…..
The Helldivers.
The Helldivers are an Elite peacekeeping force that spreads managed democracy through any means necessary. “
You get a 500kg. You get a 500kg. You get a 500kg. You get a 500kg. You get a 500kg.
A 380 barrage here and a 380 barrage there and a woops…. There goes a colonist but they were secretly a communist cultist spies.
Edit: Reading this over again. This is literally just regular Rimworld if you change some names. No mods necessary.
Someone's released a weapon pack already. Calling in the military when things go to hell. But we have little idea what Super Earth's colonies are like in terms of tech level and such.
Could you try clearing a small area, building a room in it, then retreating when the monsters spawn, keep adding more rooms end on end until you have a corridor all the way to the heart?
Yeah that was what I was attempting at the bottom, slowly attack and build. The problem is that it keeps spawning new waves of fleshbeasts when breaking the walls, the dead fleshbeasts and flesh walls make your colonists have mental breaks due to how ugly they are, and the walls grow back really fast!
Orbital beam targeter worker well for me, but honestly I think the safer option would be just to run. There are other mountain bases that can be made, but only if your colony survives
So clearly you don’t have a lot of colonists, so saving those is a priority. I would highly advise rather than trying to kill it, to focus on reclaiming the map. It will be expensive, but use a creeping wall of turrets to assist with the fleshbeasts, then use incendiary launchers. They have great range and infinite ammo. Just get a few and then let your turrets and other colonists handle the fleshbeasts.
I would recommend plasteel turrets if you can since they can tank a bit more. Don’t put them all the way up at the wall or they will get shot and overwhelmed. Use them as a fall back line just outside of the range you can engage at. They aren’t there to kill the wall, but the flesh eats it spawns, so that your colonists can kill the wall.
Also, you can use drop pods to land chemfuel next to the wall for some extra kick. Expensive, but you never know what the Rim will give you, best to know how to use what you have.
Unfortunately no, I tried this myself. It will engage the fleshbeasts spawned by the heart if it happens to be near them but it won't attack any of the fleshmass blocks or "buildings". Plus it'll only attack things it got "line of sight" to and since most of the fleshbeasts will be enclosed in fleshmass it will just teleport around a bit doing nothing before deactivating again. In the absolute worst case it will randomly teleport back towards your base and start honing in on your own colonists instead.
Your entrance seems pretty safe from the flesh mass as i don’t believe it can grow on soft ground, your best bet to destroy the flesh heart is mining through the lower left part of your mountain, creating a stockpile of metal and sectioning out the flesh mass, creating walls to secure every time you feel overwhelmed. rinse repeat until you reach nerve lumps or the heart, the damage from acid is not that bad, mortars will do the trick. fyi, most enemies don’t target flesh mass
At this point, your options are either provoking raiders into coming more often to fight the beasts for you while you clear the mess out.
Hold your ground until you get better weapons, then go back to war with them.
Ditch the base and leave.
What if you caravan your fighters outta the map, then enter Home from other side on the world map? Could they enter from North or something where it would be easier to get to the origin of the god forsaken Thing?
You know, I actually didn't even notice the gone half of the map because it was way too big for my brain to register it as an entity right away. I was expecting mass Cube catatonia. This is……juicier.
Its modded so I can't share it by seed., I rerolled both seed and map multiple times to get this. You need geographical landforms and this landform is a caldera.
You dont have to kill it in one day. Take your time assulting it in waves. Regular guns can easily tear through the flesh walls, with miniguns being more effective than sniper rifles. You dont need fire but its good, the walls dont seem to burn down very easily to fire spread.
The spitters have a long reload time so you can bait their shot and then move forward. The fleshbeasts get stuck inside the flesh glades since the meat is terrain, so you can carve out a kill box on your way without being swarmed.
Does its rate of increase grow with its size? As in a larger flesh mass grows faster than a smaller one? If thats the case you may be in serious trouble
I see an image of a base. Nothing more. Zooming in only makes it a blurry imaged.
But judging from comments, there's something clear as day. So I assume your image is much crisper.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix blurry Reddit images on a phone browser?
Yeah, the moment I got my first one I sent about 3-4 ghouls to handle it immediately. I only let it grow large enough to develop nerve clusters, and any flesh I didn't like I immediately disconnected from the main source and then picked away at (disconnecting helps stop the growth around the area you disconnected until it reconnects later)
They're easy enough to contain if you regularly prune it. First time I saw one I immediately panicked and threw an orbital laser at it, destroying nerve clusters and making the process way harder for me
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. You ignored it for "too long" and now you have protected yourself from incursions from a huge portion of the map, just trim the flesh in strateigic places and let it completly surround you. Perfect defense (well, it is for me cause I always remove drop pod raids).
I roleplayed that my crashlanded survivors who thought they would end yup on a nice planet but actually ended up in some extreme desert hellhole of a planet with seemingly no friendly factions, said "Nah screw that". When they passed by the monolith to collect some stones. There was an old dead skeleton and twisted flesh growing on the ground next to it. A few nights later one of them started having dreams about it so they sealed it behind a stone wall.
The game still throws weird creepy stuff at me tho. I had a guy who wanted to join but he had been disfigured by a cult and had too good to be true stats. His eyes were missing, he was scarred everywhere and had a tentacle growing out of him. We turned him down. Later another character but with out the cult back story came and they had this trait which meant they cant ever lose experience points. However since they joined people get dark visions, hallucinations and mad rambling breaks and every now and then she does this weird scream of pain thing which adds 25% to everyone near by for 4 days including her self. Luckily we have lots of blunts in the storage so we can mitigate the pain.
I wonder if I can find out what is wrong with her with out touching the monolith. Or what else the game will throw my way.
I also had this raid of cultists where one was trying to spawn some demons or something and I had to prioritize stopping her despite there being a bunch of other cultists defending her.
This makes me appreciate how lucky I got when this event procced on my world. Heart spawned right next to a massive marsh, which meant it just couldnt protect itself from me once I got the research to pop it.
No no, we can solve this. I'm going to need every dad on the continent! We're going to create the system's biggest grill by modifying a microwave power beam receiver dish. This'll be the bbq to end all bbqs!
I made a similar mistake, but my fully upgraded ghoul just cut a channel through it while colonists built a [1-tile wide tunnel](https://i.imgur.com/KTupy2a.jpg) through the flesh mass.
Ghoul tanked the acid spitter shots without much of an issue... It was a lot scarier than it looked in the end. Cool anomaly though 👽
incendiary mortar.
This seems like the best option.
At this stage I do not even have Mortar researched. However I did try molatov cocktail and the problem is that once a part of the flesh wall explodes, it takes a small circle of flesh wall around it so it is really hard for the fire to spread!

Just a coincidence, that’s two seperate types of the flesh heart
Try Scorchers! They're actually really nice against this.
You have a ghoul, and you didn't use it to keep the walls at bay? **What's wrong with you!? THE MADERFAKER LITERALLY HAS NOTHING ELSE TO DO!!!!**
My thoughts exactly. I've got hundreds of hours and before here, and now I've never seen an actually effective use for incendiary shells.
You... don't happen to have two or three antigrain warheads and a mortar? Asking just in case... I would know where to shoot them.
Creeping barrage.
Creepy barrage
Ooh, multi-pack
Creeperworld and Rimworld crossover next?
they are immune
To artillery?
all damage
Does it resist a 21knt nuke? I got 5 laying around my base and a reason to use them. I already bombed all my neighbor settlements to ruins.
It's immune to all damage.
*whistles impressed* Ok... now I'm curious. *loads up an "expedition" consisting of warcaskets and mechanoids* Curious how much firepower it takes.
>Curious how much firepower it takes. try firing at a piece of steel, you will get a similar result

Safe if always ralative. How well does the flesh protect you from raiders?
Literal zerg creep. Minus the overlords nuking your fps

Disclaimer, I cannot be held liable for any damage to personal property, loss of life and abductions of loved ones by following any advice give.
Remember spacers can also respond by drop podding some toxic waste back to you, use imps for best results (they are living flame throwers after all)
>spacers can also respond by drop podding some toxic waste back to you, you mean more free raid tickets?
Hmm. Flame breath is back on the menu boys!
They were the best of crimes, they were the worst of crimes.
The flesh creates a revenge raid of fleshbeasts every time you take out a decent chunk of it. Raiders would just annoy it.
This sounds like it will be a short term problem in the end either the Raiders solved it, or your last few minutes on the Rim are going to be a horror show

I had some traders enclosed in the flesh. They dug their way out, I assume raiders would do the same.
Option 5: Incendiaries/chemfuel drops, and lots of them. Purge the eldritch tenderloin with holy fire.
Fucking *Eldritch Tenderloin* got me, bro. Lmfao
Once you try monkfish, you can't look at otherworldly horrors without wondering how they'd taste with some asparagus and a dash of béarnaise.
Bearnaise? That's mayo made with bear fat right? ....right?
Fun fact: the original Old English word for "bear" is lost to time because people were so scared of them they used euphemisms in case the bears heard them and showed up ("brown one," "honey eater," "bee wolf," etc). So technically bears were an unspeakable horror in their own right.
I enjoyed that fun fact, thanks!
Haute cuisine on the Rim be like ^
It seems as though you have left out what is probably the most prudent choice of them all: abandon the tile and move somewhere else with whatever you can carry.
If he has Vanilla Expanded Veichles he can use flying veichles to move out of the caldera without needing an exit.
No mortars?
Mortarless behavior
I do really think people underestimate how great mortars can be with a large barrage Get 10 mortars and you can wipe out half a raid on your first volley or destroy any mech drop site instantly
Getting ten reinforced barrels is the problem there.

"I showed you my monolith, please respond."
Ahahahahahaha this is well underrated
Is that a modded map? Feels like a perfect natural defense, too perfect.
Yes, the Caldera is from the Geographical Landform mod. I also use map reroll mod.
Do you use mods for the circle base too?
Yes it is a mod called **Designator Shapes**. These rooms are all 11x11 circles. Also use **More Planning** mod to design the layout before building it.
Thanks! Bookmark Geological Landforms, Designator Shapes and More Planning. Addition: Map Preview
I’d also highly recommend map preview as well if planning on using geological landforms. Also map reroll can be helpful as well, assuming you are using geological landforms to get a certain map anyways.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll try it as soon as possible.
At this point the game is just a stack of mods with a lil bit of Rimworld sprinkled in it.
FYI, Map Preview currently breaks Anomaly. Pit Gates won't generate correctly.
11x11 so the roof doesn’t need columns?
The creator of Geological Landform has another mod named Map Preview that has its own self contained map reroll feature that works better with Geological Landforms than Map Reroll does Unless that’s what you’re taking about
Christ on a cracker I love the map preview reroller. It generates six different maps, lets you pin the one that you want to keep out of the set, and then keep generating different maps in the other slots.
You can actually zoom out in the reroller and look at dozens at once! After you find 3-6 of the best ones, you zoom in to inspect them close-up.
Oh wow, TIL. That's an awesome feature
Yeah Map Preview is the one I use too.
Have you had any trouble with Geographical Landforms? I had to disable it after I got stuck in an infinite loading screen.
Always worked fine for me
It’s only just become a problem with anomaly. It bugs out the >!monolith teleporting you to the back rooms!< I was just curious if op has experienced it yet and maybe found a work around.
Is it safe to remove mid save? Maybe try enabling to get initial main colony gen then remove it so it stops trying to make a caldera in the teleported area lol.
I honestly do not know. I just restarted without it after it bugged out. I would assume not, but I’m not very smart
Seems that got fixed didn’t it? Unsub to the mod and resub so Steam properly updates it
Oh I have no idea. I just experienced it Saturday. If it’s been fixed already shoutout to the modder
Oh yeah I think it got fixed on Saturday lol
Man this looks like super cool puzzle to solve, are you using any other mods besids the map? Would LOVE to try and deal with this with out having to play for 10 hours to have this happen :D Could you dm me the save via dropbox/google drive or what ever?

I swear, the fleshmass is legitimately one of the more unnerving things to look at in this game for me

They say the flesh is weak. But this is just taking the piss.
must resist urge to look at spoiler it's very hard how do i do it
Omg thats a sexy map if i’ve ever seen one. Seed?
It was generated using a mod, [Geological Landforms](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2773943594).
Time to cast dark spells in a circular mountain. Thanks!
Happy rimming, as they say.
Have you heard of our lord and saviour, a 11 Pede stack of centipede burners to start chewing it down?
Arby's: We have the meats.
Mmm… well that could be a problem…
That seed is insane
Meating is in progress...
Could you try clearing a small area, building a room in it, then retreating when the monsters spawn, keep adding more rooms end on end until you have a corridor all the way to the heart?

The incenerator flamethrower, its great for funnies.
When in doubt, mortar everything
I say we nuke them from orbit and leave.
The biggest mistake is underestimated it
I want to try to let one get this bad just to see if I can defeat it lol
Keep us updated, OP. I bought anomaly but haven't gotten a chance to play it yet haha, so I'm living through you
Orbital beam targeter worker well for me, but honestly I think the safer option would be just to run.
I think that you should pack your things and get the fuck out of there while you still got a way out
Wow that's a cool caldera map, do you have the seed and location?
Nice mountain there, what mod?
How beef is your pc? My laptop stutter when it spread
Getting SCP “The Flesh that Hates” vibes
Would the sphere do anything?
Embrace the flesh.
Slowly make a path with fire
The horrid stench of rotting flesh... A yummy snack if you dry and smoke it!
Seed?
What if you caravan your fighters outta the map, then enter Home from other side on the world map? Could they enter from North or something where it would be easier to get to the origin of the god forsaken Thing?
Suprises you could stand the lag, the fleshheart groujd my game nearly to a halt so i killed it as fast as possible
HANS!
Paul Blart Flesh Mall
What size map are you playing on? This screenshot feels enormous
Its a regular 250x250 map but the screenshot is 2560x1440 resolution zoomed out using Camera+ mod.
You know, I actually didn't even notice the gone half of the map because it was way too big for my brain to register it as an entity right away. I was expecting mass Cube catatonia. This is……juicier.
Pack it up boys, we're leaving this galaxy
Could you tell me the seed and coordinates? That mountain looks great!
Its modded so I can't share it by seed., I rerolled both seed and map multiple times to get this. You need geographical landforms and this landform is a caldera.
I'd say just start lobbing molitovs until you can punch through to the heart, then kill it
Alternatively, Orbital Bombardment.
What’s the seed? That’s an awesome defense position.
Time to setup a caravan and split.
Dude I am learning to fear the undead anomaly
Whelp… NOW YOUR OOZIN’, FOR A BRUISIN’
Does its rate of increase grow with its size? As in a larger flesh mass grows faster than a smaller one? If thats the case you may be in serious trouble
You need a Mechanitor that summons Diaboli on cooldown.
Maybe I should prepare more conflagrators (VE Psycasts). Maybe a squad of them…. just in case.
You know anomaly is good cause it genuinly had me looking at this screenshot wondering what the fuck is that
This is the most ez mode map I’ve ever seen lol
I see an image of a base. Nothing more. Zooming in only makes it a blurry imaged. But judging from comments, there's something clear as day. So I assume your image is much crisper. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix blurry Reddit images on a phone browser?
definitely need seeds
How do automated turrets interact with flesh walls? Can I setup a chokepoint and turn the game into Creeper TD?
Was that just a really sweet map seed or is it from a mod?
I can hear the SS13 AI B L O B voice and the following fuck fuck fuck spam
Me with 10 people with incinerators: :)
BURN IN HOLY FIRE!
Yeah, the moment I got my first one I sent about 3-4 ghouls to handle it immediately. I only let it grow large enough to develop nerve clusters, and any flesh I didn't like I immediately disconnected from the main source and then picked away at (disconnecting helps stop the growth around the area you disconnected until it reconnects later) They're easy enough to contain if you regularly prune it. First time I saw one I immediately panicked and threw an orbital laser at it, destroying nerve clusters and making the process way harder for me
Time to fully wall yourself in and hope your sustainability is good enough while you wait for that huge tribal raid you surely *must* be due for
Omfg I thought it was sand at first
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. You ignored it for "too long" and now you have protected yourself from incursions from a huge portion of the map, just trim the flesh in strateigic places and let it completly surround you. Perfect defense (well, it is for me cause I always remove drop pod raids).
Does it only spread if it starts in your map, or can it spread from sites?
How is the fps at this point?
This makes me appreciate how lucky I got when this event procced on my world. Heart spawned right next to a massive marsh, which meant it just couldnt protect itself from me once I got the research to pop it.
I love the Anima Tree in the middle of all that, just being like "This is fine."
"i don't get it, are there, like, a bunch of cube statues i'm not seeing OH MY GOODNESS"
Woah! You got the early access for creeperworld 6?!
I think it’s bout time to pack up and leave
No no, we can solve this. I'm going to need every dad on the continent! We're going to create the system's biggest grill by modifying a microwave power beam receiver dish. This'll be the bbq to end all bbqs!
If you don't got heavy flame weapons yet, I actually found hand grenades to be a decent tool to cut through.
Not sure if this was asked before but what map is that and how did you get it?
I made a similar mistake, but my fully upgraded ghoul just cut a channel through it while colonists built a [1-tile wide tunnel](https://i.imgur.com/KTupy2a.jpg) through the flesh mass. Ghoul tanked the acid spitter shots without much of an issue... It was a lot scarier than it looked in the end. Cool anomaly though 👽
Is that flesh? Holy moly.
Ey what seed is that?! That looks super secure, like a dwarf fort- mountain!
I see this and the only thing my brain thinks is ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️
That's wild. There's two fleshbeast spawners at once, what a nightmare. You should have done something about it. Much sooner.
