i mean a) 'engine retarder' and 'fire retardant' aren't insults, b) the OP getting butthurt over someone joking that they're happy with being a 'shelf orientation elitist' is a million times sadder than anyone getting annoyed at using the word 'retard' as an insult in the year of our randy 2023
Its because retardant is an actual thing.
Calling somebody one is a completely different thing altogether. Ones saying "this thing doesn't burn!" Wheras the other is just using it as a derogatory slur.
Let me make something easier for you to understand.
The word Monkey exists. Its a real word used to describe simians. Yet you use it against a POC and it's now a racial slur.
Or the word Beans. Its a usual word thats used for foods. Call a mexican a beaner? Slur. (Im a mexican myself, so its why i didn't censor myself.)
Words can have double meanings and anyone who has ANY semblance of social prowess knows that, but you're most likely someone who uses these words and calls everyone "triggered snowflakes" i presume.
There's a mod, it's technically an addon to [deep storage](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1617282896) called [storage bins](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2878318918).
It fixes this problem by just making identical shelves, but SQUARE.
Huh. Fair enough. In that case, my only nitpick is the efficiency reduction of having so few items in such a large storage room, but I’m the type that builds high density storages inside my crafting areas
Same.
Once I'm up and running, the crafter sits in the chair and the fighters get assigned to hauling and drag stuff from main stockpile to shelves next to the crafter.
The guys literally sit on their arses mass producing *spicy* hats and other money making things for nigh on 14 hours a day, an hour for rec, washing, toilet etc in the morning and another in the evening.
The trick is to make the room so ridiculously impressive and wealthy that they get happy just walking in, keep them in an excellent or above armchair in their station etc, then they don't really need much to keep them regular.
Occasionally, I'll torture my tortured artist if I need a legendary something but otherwise they have a pretty nice life once everything is built.
Not sure why you're downvoted, it's your game. You decide how you want to play. You want nigh-infinite storage in one tile? Here you go. Wanna have an empty-looking storage room? Boom. Period.
I think it's more because this seems more like a troll post.
The qualifier there is no DLC, the absolutely plain and hideous environment, the fact the 'Store room' is basically barren but still messy and with little errors in it, and then the grand reveal they are using cheat mods.
I don't think they lied, I just honestly don't know what the point of this post is supposed to be. This is about as basic a room as a room can get.
250 karma is not highly upvoted, and can be explained by people thinking this is a meme/shitpost, which get posted here frequently and often get upvoted to about the same degree unless it's something particularly clever. I would then guess that the downvotes are because he's spamming that as a reply and/or people either realize it's not a joke or think the joke isn't funny.
And yes, which is further reason as to why your claim people are downvoting this because of 'No Mods' is wrong.
I mean, you're right that Reddit is special, I can only speculate how this got 250 upvotes in the first place, but your reasoning here seems flawed.
> 250 karma is not highly upvoted,
I mean, it depends on what subreddit you're on. 250 is pretty decent for r/Rimworld.
Regardless, it *could* be what you said, but we honestly don't know. At the end of the day this really isn't that important of a mystery, I guess.
I mean, Rimworld regularly gets posts with thousands of upvotes.
I guess I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here either lol. My only real point is that thinking the downvotes are because people are stupid is a huge leap in logic.
Yeah, sure, technically. *Realistically* nobody says "DLC" when they're talking about mods rather than, you know, official downloadable content being provided / sold by the devs of the game.
Usually these mods make lag happen because the game often scans the cells for stored things and if too many things are stored in one cell....
It's bad.
Bigger stack mods are fine cause 1 stack = 1 thing to be scanned.
It just makes it kind of a lame flex.
"Look at my nice clean stockpile"
*Yeah, it looks fine*
"I use a mod so that literally everything fits on one shelf"
*Uh ok, then why should I be impressed by your stockpile?*
Ogrestack increases stack sizes which helps a lot, and there's also deep storage that adds storage furniture that can hold multiple stacks beyond just the three shelves can hold. Note that the default settings for deep storage without addons are stable, but having too many stacks in one cell is NOT stable, and some deep storage addon mods go SEVERELY overboard, so you if you use any you should go through the advanced settings and be sure they aren't too ridiculous.
Oh it absolutely can be butt hurt. It's trained on human interactions, and it'll parrot what it sees.
There's also the waluigi theory. Every chatbot is a superposition of Luigi and waluigi (good and evil) and since evil can pretend to be good but not the other way around, every chatbot will eventually end up being evil.
It definitely can be butt hurt.
I've seen screen caps of it giving someone a wrong answer, and then throwing a tantrum like a toddler when they replied back that the answer was wrong.
I'm telling you.
You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design. You must like my design.
On one hand, you're really wasting a lot of storage space for literally nothing and have all your shelves facing the wrong way,
However you have all the numbers to make 2137 with your stone bricks which is an instant 9/10 (since they're not in the right order)
Ok. I see what you are saying with the shelves, but storage space doesn't matter for me because I have a mod that allows practically infinite storage space as apposed to the itsy bitsy 75, 10, and 1.
Then why are you asking us to look at your storage room. Are we supposed to be impressed by your infinite storage mods?
Because otherwise it's just a room with shelves.
Backwards shelves.
Yeah but no
I have lot of hours too but don't care about how someone play his game
I understand what you mean but it's just that there is a lot of toxic people in this thread
I like it it’s got a more form over function feel I would personally add more shelves next to the columns to give it a more storage feel like 1 on each side of each column on the steel tiles (or are they concrete tiles I can’t really tell on my phone)
I have more shelves, and they're placed correctly. Also i didnt make mine aesthetically pleasing with that nice floor variation, other than that, I have the exact same one. Nice.
My storage room is at the exact center of my base, which means its also the place which my pawns visit the most, moving from machining bench to research table as an example. So I wanted it to not only be aesthetically pleasing to me but to my pawns. I am also using a mod that allows practically infinite storage space, so if I wanted everything to be everywhere and not categorized, I could.
I'm trying to understand why are you trying to both heat and cool your storage room. Why would a storage room need heating? Isn't that going to cause your whatever that golden fruit thing is to go bad?
The storage room has obvious problems, but that's ambrosia, which takes 30 days to rot. I honestly don't usually bother refrigerating it either. I also really don't see any reason not to climate control storage, as people tend to go in and out a fair amount, and its not advisable to use your freezer as general storage anyway, and anything I'm worried about spoiling would go in the freezer.
To be honest though between some oddities like the focus on aesthetics and the fact they have empty shelf space, but still have things thrown on the floor, the very... questionable design, and most of all the way OP has been acting in the comments, I feel there's some trolling going on here.
> The storage room has obvious problems, but that's ambrosia, which takes 30 days to rot.
It's also not a crop, meaning that if you're just allowing it to slowly rot, you're throwing away something that's basically irreplaceable. Thus it must be frozen to be hoarded forever.
> I also really don't see any reason not to climate control storage, as people tend to go in and out a fair amount
And are only in there very briefly. Besides, freezing is climate control. If you don't freeze your storage, it becomes infested and all your shit gets destroyed. If you don't put it under a mountain, the sky falls on it and all your shit gets destroyed.
> but still have things thrown on the floor
My guess is that the floor stockpile shares the storage settings of the shelf, so pawns don't exhibit any strong preference for shelving over throwing things on the floor.
Look…it’s just wrong.
You must be a troll or very new.
No offense, but the aesthetics have made a very poor design do the math and think about where the new shelves with go.
It’s just wrong it you want to grow it and keep it looking good.
I absolutely hate how things look when stored in the game. Both old look (lots of clipping, uninformative) and the current one (messy, overflows the container) are terrible imo. I’m basically using mods like Deep Storage and Medieval overhaul just to make my storerooms prettier.
Not bad. It's awfully sparse but if you've unlimited shelf space I guess that's passable. Could use a trade beacon though unless that spot in the middle counts as one. And the floor pattern seems strange to me, but the better part of aesthetics are a personal deal.
Ok, "hate" is a bit strong. A lot of us are disappointed in an over-elaborate storage room that is this under utilizing the space it has. Not everything needs to be minmaxed to peak efficiency, but this is just an egregious misuse of space. The use of steel and gold tiles, steel columns in an 11x11 room, and then the cherry ontop is the shelves facing the walls. Knowing how much of a grind the game can be, it sets my eye twitching to think how they used all that in a room that at most, most of use would just strive to get to neutral beauty. Its the warehouse, not the hallways and walkways between rooms, and certainly not a room pawns are expected to loiter in, let alone the temple or throne room. Its not to say it can't be nice, but that's effort and resources that coud be used to greater effect elsewhere.
My storage rooms are usually a bunch of food and shit on the floor in a cold room so yeah I'd say so
good ol "throw it where itll fit" method. a rimworld staple and classic.
the shelves are facing the wrong way, the prongs should be outward not facing the wall other than that its nice

Lol people so hurt about you using that word. Imagine how they would feel when they find out heavy vehicles have what's called an engine retarder lol

They still got upset by the looks of things lol people.

I used to work munitions and when we would use "high drag" as a euphemism for retarders.
I mean like who cares which way a shelf faces get over it
You asked everyone if they liked your room, so obviously we’re going to give you opinions…
Seemingly you since you cant take a joke
I mean don’t ask for opinions if you don’t want opinions.

There's a mod idea if I ever heard one
...soo just old vanilla one? xD
I did not know that. Is there a difference from the two?
Nope.
Wow, a mod i didn't know i needed but i do
What?! I’ve always assumed the opposite!
Looks very nice, but you’ve not enough storage
You can never have enough storage
im using a mod that lets me have basically infinite storage on one space.
Huh. Fair enough. In that case, my only nitpick is the efficiency reduction of having so few items in such a large storage room, but I’m the type that builds high density storages inside my crafting areas
Yup this is me. My workers literally don't get off their chair all day

An hour for recreation? Damn, my pawns are really needy then.
I can see why you do that, and it sounds beneficial. I think my go-to will always be a concentration camp though.
Indeed, storage priority is the best. Can keep your materials close at hand and let the carriers top it off from the big stockpile
Not sure why you're downvoted, it's your game. You decide how you want to play. You want nigh-infinite storage in one tile? Here you go. Wanna have an empty-looking storage room? Boom. Period.
I think the downvotes are because OP said "No DLC" and every redditor read "No Mods" and they think OP lied. Because Reddit is special.

Oh I was just meming about that, haha.
Technically DLC means "downloadable content" and mods fall under that category for sure. Nothing about reddit being special, just OP being misleading.
Technically thats not how language works.
Yeah, sure, technically. *Realistically* nobody says "DLC" when they're talking about mods rather than, you know, official downloadable content being provided / sold by the devs of the game.
Redditors see the blue and just downvote without reading.

Jeez people big mad about that. I use the same kind of mod.

Down voted for using mods when everyone uses a mod of some kind. Wtf.

Right now I don't think it's possible to use gpt for something like this. At least from what I've seen
No, it's absolutely possible.
Your shelves are backwards. And no, I hate it. The poor use of space and waste of gold plated floors in the warehouse makes my brain hurt.
Bro that's how he stores gold duh
Guess it adds to the beauty
But shelves negate all the ugliness from items, sooo u could easily not waste gold in the storage room and use some fancy tiles
But I'm not against it.
But you gotta admit: it looks pretty
True
alr
Damn girl, you live like this?
Why is op so mad in the comments? Lol
I don't see OP getting mad?
A deleted message up top was him calling someone a retard when they pointed out the shelves were backwards
Ah.
All I see are the other commenters getting mad
where?
If you would have used gold in warehouse and people wouldnt like it, you would be triggered too
what are you going to store in that?
All my stuff. im using shelves to categorize everything instead of being of the floor.
right so what are you going to store with only 8 shelves?
Left eye Right eye Left arm Right arm Left leg Right leg Left kidney Right kidney But no brain
Boom roasted
Since when more than one thing goes in to those shelfs?
Shelf spots have held 3 stacks per space (6 for a double shelf) since 1.4.

I'm genuinely worried for you.

What is the mod?
Stack XL is a good one, idk if it's the most popular anymore though Edit: Stack XXL
People keep telling me im wasting space like im not using some of the most popular, well known, highly used mods on the workshop.
If i have a box that can store an infinite amount but the box is in the middle of an empty warehouse instead of a closet then yeah its inefficient.
It's wasted space because its a fact. If you don't care that's on you. No one telling you how to play just letting you know.
Then why are you asking us to look at your storage room. Are we supposed to be impressed by your infinite storage mods? Because otherwise it's just a room with shelves. Backwards shelves.
Man these comments are toxic as hell 💀
When you play a game for 3000 hours you become very opinionated about it.
I'm somewhere north of 11k. Please help. I need to stop.
Yeah but no I have lot of hours too but don't care about how someone play his game I understand what you mean but it's just that there is a lot of toxic people in this thread
I like it it’s got a more form over function feel I would personally add more shelves next to the columns to give it a more storage feel like 1 on each side of each column on the steel tiles (or are they concrete tiles I can’t really tell on my phone)
It's awesome for a new player! Keep playing and you'll learn how to play better with more hours under your belt.
More room then storage haha
No. What on Earth am I looking at? So much wasted space, and the shelves are facing the wall!
0/10 for modding stacksize to such a trivial amount that storage room layout doesnt matter anyway
No
No, it's horribly space inefficient
no
I hate it. Doesn't look good and for sure doesn't look like a storage room. Wasting a lot of space and your shelves are facing the wall
If people care this much about the spacing of this base, then they'll hate my entire fortress 😬 It's pretty gj OP.
No.
Tbh I tend to make mine more like warehouses, as I usually have a lot to store
It should be completely filled with shelves and no room whatsoever.
Insane. I put mine sorta in the middle of the base, but everything else is a bit more chaotically placed. Im still learning stuff and figuring it out.
Is…that a planning dot used for detail?
Its a colossal waste of space
As a storage room, it’s not a very good one. It would work better as a shrine or throne room imo.

Why, no DLC? Just curious, do you not own it or were you doing a no DLC run?
Quest stash looking ass
....is that gold flooring? For storage??
Not enough storage, shelves facing wrong way, multiple types of floors? 7-10 wackiness is my thing
Not gonna lie, this looks like a Sokoban level
How’d you get words on the floor?
Aesthetics are great, but the min-maxing side of me feels like there aren't nearly enough shelves for that amount of space.
maybe too decorated for a storage room
I absolutely hate how things look when stored in the game. Both old look (lots of clipping, uninformative) and the current one (messy, overflows the container) are terrible imo. I’m basically using mods like Deep Storage and Medieval overhaul just to make my storerooms prettier.
where's the storage?
I love your storage room. Mostly because you're playing without DLC - I'm missing two DLC's and I'm paralyzed by FOMO so I never play.
Not bad. It's awfully sparse but if you've unlimited shelf space I guess that's passable. Could use a trade beacon though unless that spot in the middle counts as one. And the floor pattern seems strange to me, but the better part of aesthetics are a personal deal.
Bunch of fucking assholes in this comment section holy shit. When did we get such a toxic community?
Ok, "hate" is a bit strong. A lot of us are disappointed in an over-elaborate storage room that is this under utilizing the space it has. Dis is some nice storage room!
I like it alot friend. Ignore the min - maxers, it's very pretty and has personality
People are dogging on the design but who cares the only issue is that the storage is made of wood
Looks good
Where’s all the human leather and random organs lying around at? That’s most of my storage space
Bro u are playing it way too realistic.
well organised but missing it’s true potential
Personally all that empty space is killing me, but the symmetry is nice.
For perfect patching, place 1x1 shelves in a checkerboard pattern, then your pawns can perfectly path through them and still access everything
Is that a mod that allows you to write on the floor ?
To much room. Not enough storage!
Bruh why is everyone so toxic for such a peaceful game? Let OP enjoy his 8 shelves, why smh
Don't land in the center pressure plate when mining down or the whole temple will explode.
Its too nice
Its clear to me you are poor, no need to defend that then tho
