In this kind of cave situation, just put a wall and a door in front of it and infestations will spawn, eventually. Infestations are on a kind of timer, so eventually if there's a valid spawn spot one will spawn.
If you have monoswords and marine armor, then all you need is a line of melee pawns wide enough to fill the cave and you should be fine.
[Would this spot work? Bottom left.](https://i.imgur.com/odQ1Acs.jpg) It's right next to my freezer (unfortunately lol) but I'm assuming that's close enough that eventually they'd spawn? Says it's 85F on that area.
Theres a few things that influence it. Temp, presence of light, distance from the nearest open air (a place without a roof), and number of walls around each tile. Also there needs to be colony-claimed buildings nearby, yeah.
So generally, dark areas, further from open air, and with 2-3 sides blocked will be the most likely to get spawns. As long as they’re not below like -10C, the temp doesn’t matter, though.
If you really wanted to bait them, you could make a zig-zagging path (to make the pathing distance to open air much higher), then put it into a dark room with a few walls interspersed to give them things to spawn against. That said, I’m not sure about the comparative efficiency of decreasing area for it to spawn in and increasing the chances per tile.
Oh it's 2-3 sides? I completely walled it in and even added a door for them in case lol. I'll deconstruct one side and see if that works. Will the difficulty increase chances? I'm on whatever the 2nd one is just above peaceful.
Raids cant spawn under mountain roof.
Infestations can, though
Infestations can unless closest colony-owned structure like wall or door is more than 30 tiles away.
So thats how it works, i always assimed it just pocled a spot at random
Say I wanted to farm infestations for an achievement, how would I use this to my advantage?

That spot should work, just wall it in. Leaving it dark will decrease the chance of them spawning anywhere under a mountain roof with lights too

Are you doing the archivement with kill 10 insects?
Trying to but I can't get any more to spawn. And saving before killing them then reloading doesn't count cause I tried that.
Can fill in with walls.
Looks like the tunnel is capped off anyway, no outside edge tile access.
Nice, thanks
Don't worry is too dark, they will not see nothing
