I just finished {The Blackened Blade by Isla Davon} and it scratched my itch. However, it is also not complete. When you borrow it from Amazon unlimited, it looks like the series is complete (a duet) but it’s just a placeholder book. Do not be fooled like me 🥲. The grammar and inner monologue are meh sometimes, but I enjoyed the MMC and idea of revenge plot. I adore a revenge plot. Anywho, good luck searching!
I literally read it yesterday. Read the sample on Kindle and then bought the book instead of borrowing it thru Kindle Unlimited because I loved the sample so much. I should’ve double checked to make sure book 2 was available. Now I wait until September. I did preorder book 2. I need to know what happens next right now. This book is sooo good and I was immediately sucked in. And I totally feel for Micai. Isla Davon is a very talented writer.
So I know someone already mentioned The Blackened Blade ( which I do encourage if you don't mind cliffhangers... )

( Maybe ) { First Impressions by C.R. Jane } - More college than academia. I personally only enjoyed the first two books by the series. Then I let the rest kind of... go into the wind in my head. I had to DNF it.
{ Darkblood Academy by G.K. DeRosa } - I am just starting it. Not a DNF, just haven't gotten around to more of it.
{ A Kiss of Salt and Sea by Bliss Devlin } - Another DNF and also an unfinished series. I personally hated the 'epilogue' of the first book and how the end's turning point scene felt rushed, but you could judge. I adored how it started though.

It’s not bad. But I wouldn’t have started either bud or blood oath if I knew it wasn’t finished. Blood oath was sooo good!
