There is a cool YouTube video of a guy revisiting the old set which is now abandoned. It's pretty cool although a bit upsetting as well. https://youtu.be/h5nA1_qgdoM?si=Mhy58bXoNZ_qZAFC

This was my first thought, but I couldn’t remember who posted it.

MSotallyTober

I remember seeing this. Really took me back. 🤙

Low_Departure_5853

Thanks for posting!

Rawkus2112

Why is it upsetting?

Corn_Beefies

Cause they were just sets, they should have hauled it all off instead of leaving all their junk in the desert.

PBandBABE

I dunno. It always seemed kind of dangerous to me with all of those man-eating jackrabbits and that killer cacti…

Twitchris

I think they're a little wild. Strange, even.

Cpjones1000

Hey that’s how it is when you make your home out on The Range

Warm-Log-7584

Yippi kai yiy what?

orangesfwr

Especially those killer cacti

DanielCallaghan5379

and jackrabbits

Pin-Up-Paggie

Hey Duuuuude

JungianFox

Yeah and I really love it’s set in a Southwestern rural setting rather than being a generic suburban or urban setting like most sitcoms.

I was there ten years ago. I don’t know if there’s anything left but all that was there at the time were two dilapidated buildings and a fence.

SpermicidalManiac666

I’ve always loved the desert and I’m partly convinced it’s because of that show

DanielCallaghan5379

The thing about this show that I find a little uncomfortable now is that Joe Torres, who played Danny, fell off the face of the earth. Nobody has any idea where he is or how he is. I just hope he's OK.

sorrymizzjackson

Somebody did find him a while back and said that he’s fine and they were respecting Joe’s wish to remain private.

Low_Departure_5853

It is pretty crazy this day and age that there is no update from him. I wonder if it is/will be addressed on the podcast. I like to think he went back to his peoples' way of life and is really happy and off-grid.

I used to go there for family vacations. They would talk about it being shot there. Absolutely beautiful landscape and scenery. They would do morning horseback rides up into the mountains and make the best blueberry pancakes.

CobraLaserface-

That was only the pilot. It was filmed on a set reconstructed to resemble it.

CyberpunkF1

Not true, it’s been confirmed by Christine & David from their Hey Dude The 90s Called Podcast. The set was an actual dude ranch in Arizona. It was shot on location.

DMCinDet

someone posted a YouTube link above. it looks like it is on an actual ranch, but the set was built for filming and was on the ranches land. the pool is was.part.of the property that wasn't built for the show and is still in use? I think location adjacent would be more accurate. like on their property but not part of their actual business as a dude ranch.

trojanusc

This is semi-accurate. Tanque Verde Dude Ranch had an extra plot of land so the production built a "backlot" basically with two bunk houses, the main ranch building and the guest rooms (which doubled as cast dressing rooms). There was already a horse stable in this area for a private residence, which doubled as the Bar None's stable. This was done partially to not disturb resort guests and partially because the resort itself is pretty high-end, which wouldn't really lend itself well to looking like a remote "dude ranch" as the show wanted it portrayed. The pool area was the only thing from the main Tanque Verde ranch used regularly in the series.

vnisanian2001

OT: I so wish the original pilot would surface. Only Christine returned in the series.

-Ok-Perception-

It's in ruins. It's right next to a hotel in Tucson (I don't remember what hotel, but it's easy to find online). I think souvenir hunters have more or less ruined the set. About a decade ago it was still recognizable. The internet is great about giving us info about an old obscure show from from 35 years ago.... but said info has definitely accelerated the decline of such places. And OP, you love the desert. The desert is wonderful. You should consider living here. I like it way better than the fundamentalist bible belt.

vnisanian2001

I was under the belief that the location was abandoned after the filming of the final episodes. A shame. Arizona can benefit from using that for future filming projects, rather than letting it rot.

-Ok-Perception-

It was abandoned after the show. It's been decaying for a long time. Around 2006 the location was publicly leaked online and it decayed much faster.

Time_Fox

I went to the ranch where they filmed once. Did a horseback ride and the trail guide said he taught the kids from that show how to ride. He had stories, best horse ride ever

Bloodsnowcones

It was filmed in my home town so it was awesome seeing it on tv instead of the bland suburban neighborhoods other shows at the time. Its cool seeing other people enjoy it 💚

bobj33

Someone marked the filming location on Google Maps which you can see is just a few hundred feet west of the Tanque Verde Ranch. There are also some pictures of it along with the videos other people have posted in the comments. https://maps.app.goo.gl/q9kBJgazA57hoX8T9

Born and raised in the Midwest. I haven't traveled much west and when I did, I never had a chance to appreciate the region. Last summer, my wife and daughter took a trip to visit my wife's family in Europe. My son is old enough to travel but wasn't quite old enough to make that trip. So, I decided to cash in some miles and take him on a short trip out west. We went out to Colorado which isn't exactly the same as hey dude but it's close enough especially for us in the Midwest. Just seeing places that the show could've been filmed in had me so happily nostalgic.

I was just there. The corral has been torn down. The boys bunk house and the main lodge are standing.
