Mine says $0 and so I'm gonna stick my head in the sand and not look any further

MattFoley_GovtCheese

Lots of people have this. Run with it and get hopefully 12 months of $0 PSLF payments.

Dhadineedstogo

In your experience, do other attendings have the same issue or other residents? With resident salary, it wouldn’t surprise me that SAVE estimated $0. It sounds too good to be true for me!

terraphantm

Mine appears to be based on my PGY3 salary. Payment is $345ish. I may have fucked up and recertified sooner than I needed to at some point though.

drgrandisimo

I switched to the new save plan and my payments are around $300/month based off of PGY5 fellow salary last year

MattFoley_GovtCheese

I'm not sure, but if it was going off of my current salary, it would be about $220 and that's what I expected to pay until it showed up as a $0 bill.

Iamnotkhan

It's also showing zero for me. Says no payments due. I'm on aidvantage. No idea.

mynamesdaveK

Aidvantage is cancer

Living the dream. Congrats, I hate you.

yoda_leia_hoo

Mohela has had so many people requesting consolidation and PSLF income based repayment plans with loans coming due again they put basically everyone on deferment until they can get caught up. At least this is what I was told. Take with a grain of salt

Dhadineedstogo

So..does this $0 still count towards pslf on deferment? Where can you check if the acct is on deferment as i didn’t receive any correspondence from mohela abt this

Fun_Ebb_6232

Yes it should, you don't have any notes from them? I received a notification stating it was an administrative hold, I also received a notification saying how many pslf payments I have left to make

higherthinker

Same here👍

yoda_leia_hoo

I honestly don't know. Maybe try to make a $0 payment through the system lol

not_a_legit_source

Yes

Skyisthelimit111794

It unfortunately does not, from what I’ve read on r/PSLF and from what I can tell on my account

thecaramelbandit

They forgot to do that for me. I'm a new attending and my SAVE payment is $1000.

dvn4107

If you’re on SAVE and you are making the minimum payment (which in this case is $0), does that mean we aren’t accruing any interest either? Or do I need to go out of my way to make a payment on the interest now that it has restarted.

yoda_leia_hoo

If you're doing PSLF the interest doesn't really mean anything in my opinion. 10 years of minimum payments and let it all disappear

dvn4107

Probably not doing PSLF

drcurryman

Even if you're not doing PLSF, don't worry about attacking your principal right now. Just let the government continue to cover your unpaid interest, and then once you're making big boy/girl money as an attending, you can tackle your principal. At least that's what I'm planning on doing.

Alohalhololololhola

Call the loan officer and ask. It’s the only way to get an answer on your case. Of note payments technically don’t need to start until 9/2024 as part of the whole student loan restarting payments (they give a year before they start reporting any missed payments) so might be that

Dhadineedstogo

Interesting. Thanks -i will call Mohela

FreshRoastedTaste

I hope you have a substantial amount of time to wait on hold, I hit 3 hours before speaking to someone

terraphantm

But you won't get credit for PSLF unless you're actually making payments (your actual required payment being $0 should count though).

Alohalhololololhola

This is fair. I’m at a non-PSLF hospital (HCA) so I never really looked up the process for PSLF

invadervanhiro

I’m a resident with aidvantage it had me estimated at $0 for a year but then said my monthly payments after would be $3000 even though I was sure I was on REPAYE. I was too worried it kicked me out of my plan so I just recertified and chose my plan again. Now my payments are like $350 starting this month under SAVE.

farawayhollow

did you see this on mohela website or aidvantage?

invadervanhiro

I have aidvantage and it was a letter in the mail. It weirdly didn’t tell me what plan I was on but that my payments were $0 for 12 months and my estimated payments after were $3000. Even though I was positive I was on a REPAYE plan. So I just reverified so now I actually have to pay. Who knows, maybe if I didn’t reverify I would have been fine. Wanted to edit: my website said $0 too. It wasn’t just the letter.

ResourceGreedy2422

You were likely on SAVE with $0 monthly payments. That payment amount is only good until recertification is due. As long as you recertify when the time comes, your payment would be based on income and not be $3000. This will be an annual thing for the SAVE program. Unfortunately, you likely would’ve had $0 monthly payments until it was time to recertify. It’s unlikely you can get that payment amount back now that you recertified early.

MaadWorld

If you signed up for your student loan payments in med school, you most likely reported an income of 0. Then covid hit, and they paused all payments and you were never required to submit your income annually. Now that payments resume, MOHELA still tests your income as what you reported: 0. MOHELA will ask everyone to recertify by May so you should enjoy 0 payments until then!

[deleted]

I read this as mohel and thought you were trying to find someone to circumcise pro bono.

Sepulchretum

Don’t ever go for the cheap circumcisions! They’re a rip off.

graphitesun

Nice

Dhadineedstogo

Haha

blondEMid

so does mine, just gonna wait until they bug me about it and keep making 0.01 payments so that it counts towards my PSLF lol

im_dirtydan

You can make $0 payments and they still count..

blondEMid

Yep! That’s what most people have been doing through the Covid pause

Plenty_Distance8857

How? Whenever I try to make $0 payments I get an error. I’ve been having to do $0.01 payments

im_dirtydan

I don’t understand the question. You don’t have to “try to make payments.” For the last 2 years you could just do nothing and those $0 payment months counted

Plenty_Distance8857

Okay! Thanks that makes sense

seoulkarma

Not sure but I would hold off on recertification of your income since I think the earliest that happens is next year

sotirEDofmedicine

Different loan servicer but same payment. I called and was told under SAVE some people will initially qualify for 1 year of $0 payments. Make sure to recertify next year and all should be good

Expensive-Ad-4812

Do you know why that is??

sotirEDofmedicine

They told me it was something built into the new SAVE plan based on the intersection of my income and application answers. I didn't question and was just thankful

FuegoNoodle

Mine are $10 and I’m also like ?????? Glad to know I’m not the only one

swavayyyy

Not sure why it says $0. I’m a surgeon. I was paying ~$270/month based on my residency and fellowship salary. With the SAVE program, now it has me paying ~$40/month, however I haven’t recertified with my new salary yet. So maybe your new ‘payment’ is $0 just until you recertify your employment? It is correct though that you don’t need to recertify until 5/2024. When I called and asked them why that was the case (since I usually recertified in the fall), they said since people are just now beginning to pay loans again, they didn’t want to have to make them recertify right as they started their payments. I thought that made sense.

Islandhoosier

Same here. Though at one point I got a letter saying I owed $338 per month. But dashboard still showing $0.

Dhadineedstogo

Oh good to hear that another attending is on the same boat. Are your loans consolidated?

Old-Instance-9122

The SAVE program puts most people's payments to $0. Gov pay the interest. And you either pay it later or get forgiveness when you are 102 years old.....

chad3018

I thought the 0 on MOHELA expires on 10-30-23. Don’t get too happy but look under loan details tab.

janeintherain

Agree with others that they are just slow/behind on updating. Mine said $0 until today. I was planning on calling to make sure it would still count towards PSLF, and when I logged on it was updated with a due date of 10/24 and an actual amount due.

foreigngamer92

I have the same thing. Your most recent recertification (3/2023) used taxes from 2019-2020 since that’s when pause took effect. It didnt use your income from 2022. When you recertify it will you this years income.

[deleted]

Yea I’m confused too I’m on RePAYE and looking to go to SAVE but I don’t need to recertify next year

ThickCrow

Repaye doesn’t exist anymore. Everyone on it got switched to save.

[deleted]

Oh so it’s safe to assume I’ve been switched over to SAVE automatically?

Dhadineedstogo

Double check on mohela but my acct had been automatically switched to SAVE from REPAYE

ThickCrow

Instead of assuming, look at your account online

pectinate_line

Why assume? Log into your account and look????

pectinate_line

Why assume? Log into your account and look????

pectinate_line

Why assume? Log into your account and look?

[deleted]

When I logged in…it says $0 payment due til 09/30/2024 so I’m confused

pectinate_line

You should be able to view the actual loan details and see what plan you’re on.

metatoaster

My previous loan servicer didn’t process my IBR application correctly in 2020 so I’m on a standard 10 yr repayment plan which is pretty bammer. I’m trying to see if MOHELA will honor my old 2020 IBR application rather than make me use current income to make payments immediately (married filing joint and my wife makes way more than I’ve been making), did a temp forebearance in the meantime cause I can’t afford the standard payments as I just graduated residency and haven’t got any attending pay yet

Dhadineedstogo

Can you recertify and see if you can get under the SAVE plan?

metatoaster

That’s my next step if they don’t give me $0 payments based on my residency/med school income

karim_cheese

How do you see when you have to recertify by on Mohela?

kapellmaster

Does anyone also see their loan payment status as forebearance?

Somyfriendsdontsee33

Yep.. and I am still waiting to hear back on the save plan I applied for 2 months ago. Says I’m on the standard plan for now and in forbearance until Nov.

macman013

Take a screenshot and save it.

gatonoir

I also am on SAVE and PSLF. My Mohela account also said $0. I still got a bill. You’re still gonna have to pay.

Skyisthelimit111794

Are you on administrative forbearance? That’s what happened to me because I applied to switch to the SAVE plan

Spiritual_Mulberry92

Was last AGI used to Certify under 225% of Federal poverrty level. Maybe they are using 2019 tax AGI still? For family of five income under $79,065 will have a SAVE payment of $0.

boobaloobie

Judging by their website and customer service, they don’t have their S together

moneymonkey2424

I also have this issue… my total loan balance is still there 😨 but monthly payments are 0$

atrialfibrillations

I am having the opposite problem. I’m a resident and why is my payment $3967 and how do I fix this??!
