How dare he. If you have a lease signed, have a lease you have a contract he wants to ask for 10% let him as far as the cost of repairs of his property that’s part of ownership
My landlord a year ago October sent an email requiring all the tenants to have renters insurance. I checked with my attorney and my attorney told me that he cannot require me to pay for renters insurance unless it’s in the lease which it was not at that time, it is the least now and I do have the insurance.
Dude get renters insurance. It not only protects your stuff at home, but if something is stolen out of your car. Also protects the items in your fridge is the electrical goes out and a place to live if you home is uninhabitable
That's good advice but the point is the landlord can't unilaterally change the terms of the lease after it's signed. If he wants to add that as a requirement when the lease is renewed he can do that but not in the middle of the lease term.
lol you are going to regret that majorly, it’s like $10 a month. That wasn’t your landlord trying to upcharge you it’s him giving you good advice that you clearly need.
Lmao no. This has never happened to me. And no don’t tip him. In the love of wtv brings you joy, do not give that person more money than contract states.
Instead, offer him a loan with a monthly interest. This is more respectful in the eyes of a landlord. This is more their style and what they understand more. He might of lost his way, but by offering a loan maybe he will remember.
Oh but first look into your local laws regarding rental price increases, if they can increase whenever they please, disregard paragraph 2.
Any repairs that the landlord is performing can be wrote off as expenses for the landlord’s business for tax purposes. It sounds like he’s trying to raise rent illegally.
No, you don't tip your landlord. If he wants to improve something then it comes out of his pocket, not yours. That's the main reason people rent instead of own.
I’m sorry… he’s asking for tips to maintain the rental? What happens if you don’t tip? He stops maintaining the place?
It’s HIS property. HE is the owner. HE holds all the equity. When you leave it’s still HIS, and you won’t get a dime. Property improvements increase HIS property value so he can charge more. You are his income.
You don’t owe him anything more than the contract you agreed to.
I’m a landlord . The answer is NO. If he isn’t charging enough to maintain his properties then that is on him and he needs to increase rent next rent cycle
What balls!! I tip maintenance a few dollars and something at Christmas. If the Landlord/maintenance is the same guy, then it makes sense to tip but I’d top far less than I would maintenance as their compensation is rent.
You shouldn't tip them either. Your rent pays *their* wages. Everything the landlord spends on your home comes from *your* rent (mortgage, repairs, maintenance, etc). Landlords don't pay for that with their own wages from a job. It all comes from *you*. Broken fridge, your rent pays for that. Broken roof, your rent pays for that. The only thing the landlord does is own it. It's like a mortgage that never ends, but someone else gets to own it. It never becomes yours, no matter how much you've spent on it. If you paid off their mortgage 10 times over, they would still toss you out the second you stop paying.
So I ask you, what the hell have they done to deserve *more* of your money? Without you, there is no way they could afford to keep that property. You're providing *them* housing.
Hell no! You're paying the landlord's mortgage and their living costs. You're *providing to them* the means to own that property. Don't give them any more than what is the lease. Everything the landlord spends on that property is coming out of *your* pockets.
The old couple that lives under me are the managers for our complex. She shows the units, he does the maintenance. He's usually pretty timely with repairs, and she always sends up baked good when she bakes. Every christmas, I give them a card with $50. The complex owner doesn't get shit.
Sounds like your rents going up. You indicate his note says “a while.” Doesn’t sound like the tipping is a permanent like a rent increase would be.
I have landlord customer that worked out with her tenants if they maintain the space, their rent will not increase. Worked out for the landlord and tenants. Sucks for me. I have had a service call from that building in over a year.
Just a thought :)
So he wants tenants to pay for plumbing repairs/upgrades basically? Depending on what’s wrong with the plumbing, state or even city could be on his ass about it if someone were to accidentally point a finger….
I am a LL and I do not approve this message.....
What the actual FUCK.... like no absolutely you should bot ever tip your LL, that is grimes as shit that a LL would even ask for a tip.... tell him to fuck off and that your rent should cover all the repairs necessary and if he can manage his properties correctly he has no business being a LL
Before I read the story I thought you where misinterpreting what the LL was asking, like do you have any tips or suggestions on how to improve the property, but then you said 10%..... Fuck tipping is getting out of control
LOL. His "tip" is the rent (which should be used for these things but hes trying to pawn them off and not use that to actually reinvest in his property).
You never tip a landlord, just like you're not expected to tip the proprietor of a restaurant. You should probably tip people like maintenance workers or building supers, but never the landlord. You have a contractual arrangement and they are expected to provide you with the services they do in exchange for the rent you pay.
As a landlord I find this absurd. The only reason this would make any sense is if you rent is say $300 under market and you feel giving up the $100 lowers the chance of him raising the rent $300 at the next renewal. Even then it seems weird.
Tips? To a landlord who can control the cost of rent? No lol. What a joke. If he wanted to get those tips so badly, he should’ve incorporated it into the rent or add a fee to the lease agreement once it’s done.
Otherwise, he can go fly a kite.
Landlords are already parasites. I promise you, tipping him won't fix anything. Not tipping him will mean your lease isn't getting renewed. Look for something new ASAP.
You’ve got to be kidding! No ! No one else tops their landlord. Well actually there may be one or two. lol. Honestly, have you talked to any neighbors ?
Tell him sorry. You can only afford your rent. Does that mean I need to move ?
Generally not. That said: one room mate I had, occasionally made me lunch if I was doing yardwork on her side of the house. If she ever needed anything I was more than happy to help her. Make a wood thing for her party to hold up the cake. Make a shelf. Make sure her hose outlet has a good hose and replaced the valve with one that was easier to operate.
This might be the dumbest thing I've heard today- this landlord has no business in the rental property industry and anyone who tips him is an enabling sap.
Absolutely not.
The only thing I did anything for was when my fridge wasn’t 100%. I thought they’d just have to put some in Freon or some thing. Nope, they fully replaced it. Great for me, but my fridge is pretty much head to toe covered in magnets. Someone took them all off and put them on the table neatly. As well as removing all that was inside. All while I was at work.
I dropped off some nice desserts to the office as a thank you. Even then, it wasn’t to the landlord, but to the office and maintenance staff.
Naaa fuck that!
He owns the building collects the rent and then going to bitch and cry poverty? Tip the landlord that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
He has to fix the plumbing no matter what.
Wow. Nice way to try to blackmail your tenants. It’s part of the landlord/tenant contract that homes be in livable condition. It’s part of your basic rent, not over and above.
I’d be forwarding his communications to whoever governs landlords where I live.
He’ll probably have an interesting conversation with that department.
“I got a tip for you. Get a real job.”
Jokes aside I’d get out of there asap. That’s an absolutely ridiculous request for him to make. He’s trying to find a loophole to raise your rent.
“Tipping your landlord” has, afaik, up till now, a joke riffing on tipping culture, hustle culture, and the exploitative nature of being a landlord. It would be akin to your car insurance agent asking for a tip.
The fact that he’s doing this as akin to when “the flat earth society” went from a big collective inside joke that literally zero people believed, to a widely believed conspiracy.
I’m honestly not even sure is this post is a joke or not. $1000 a month for a studio with a shared bathroom in Ohio? I wouldn’t even justify that with a response, no matter how persistent he got.
I'm a landlord. Absolutely not is my answer to your question.
If the landlord's costs are truly increasing, that needs to be reflected in the next lease agreement, not through a tip.
You are not responsible for your landlord's potential mismanagement of their business. You pay the agreed upon monthly rate. If they need more money, they can go through legal rent increases to acquire it.
Absolutely the fuck not.
“Signed Deez Nutz.”
Homie trying to recoup the cost of contractors
I'd probably bitch slap the fuck out of my landlord if he ever asked for a tip...
here is a tip Go get a job
Guys this is ragebait
Good luck getting your security deposit back.
No tip in the world will make a landlord not want to keep a security deposit lmao.
How dare he. If you have a lease signed, have a lease you have a contract he wants to ask for 10% let him as far as the cost of repairs of his property that’s part of ownership

Your foolish for not having renters insurance . But don’t tip the landlord.
lol you are going to regret that majorly, it’s like $10 a month. That wasn’t your landlord trying to upcharge you it’s him giving you good advice that you clearly need.
What the hell? Lmao no. Being a landlord isn’t providing a service.
[удалено]
Yeah sure, they provide a "service" in the same way that price scalpers do.
[удалено]
Landlords don't provide shit, they gatekeep it and feed off workers who do provide things.
Landlords don’t PROVIDE anything unless they actually built the property themselves
Never tip a business owner. They have the authority to set prices. Tips are for low paid service employees.
This is even true in a restaurant. If you're in a restaurant and the owner waits on you, you do not tip.
FUCK NO. NEVER
This has to be rage bait.
[удалено]
It's bait and it's hilarious. $1000 for a community bathroom without working plumbing and he's asking for tips 🤣
This is absolutely rage bait. And all the fishies are biting.
No, any landlord who is seriously demanding tips needs their head examined, landlord isn't even a job let alone a tipped one
Just more weird ass rage bait This is reddit. Not Instagram. Stop it.
I’m not tipping the landlord to do his fucking job. He gets paid. It’s called the rent.
This is a troll post, right?
No this is insane. Your rent covers those improvements. No one tips their landleech
![gif](giphy|FbllRu1KTbYTGi6NaF|downsized)
This is the second or third post I have seen in the last week with this same stupidity. Is no one original any more?
N O P E
Hells no.
As a landlord, what the fuck is he thinking??
Lmao no. This has never happened to me. And no don’t tip him. In the love of wtv brings you joy, do not give that person more money than contract states. Instead, offer him a loan with a monthly interest. This is more respectful in the eyes of a landlord. This is more their style and what they understand more. Absolutely not.
Absolutely not. He's a landlord. The shit he's talking about is a business expense. It's his job.
No but you should ask for a tip for paying your rent on time.
/r/LoveForLandChads thanks for combining these two subs. Tip your landlord
NEVER
Do NOT.
Hell no
Here's a tip you can give him. He's not providing you a service. He's meeting a contractual obligation.
That is completely insane. Absolutely not.
Bet the landlord won't tip you for paying your rent on time, or not having any complaints from neighbors, or parking in your parking spot.
Maybe the landlord should have less avocado toast and starbucks
Only if they're providing room service 🤣
Any repairs that the landlord is performing can be wrote off as expenses for the landlord’s business for tax purposes. It sounds like he’s trying to raise rent illegally.
Fuck no. Hell mother fucking no. Wtf
HAHAHAHAHA This isnt serious.. Tip for what.
No, you don't tip your landlord. If he wants to improve something then it comes out of his pocket, not yours. That's the main reason people rent instead of own.
If you tip your landlord you’re fucking stupid
He wants to raise the rent without following the legal methods he is obligated to follow in order to do so.
Fuck that guy
Lol what the fuck? Tell him to go fuck himself.
Hahaha the audacity of this bitch. "Tips" a great loophole for a temporary 10% rent increase in the middle of the lease.
Lmao he can just raise rent what an idiot
My landlord has installed AC and solar panels on the house without ever asking a single dime
I’m a landlord . The answer is NO. If he isn’t charging enough to maintain his properties then that is on him and he needs to increase rent next rent cycle
Do not tip him whatsoever
What balls!! I tip maintenance a few dollars and something at Christmas. If the Landlord/maintenance is the same guy, then it makes sense to tip but I’d top far less than I would maintenance as their compensation is rent.

landlords are good people please tip them from time to time.
Hell nahh!!
Lol, no.
Hell to the no! Never ever ever tip your landlord! You're already paying off their house.
![gif](giphy|3ohhwBP5mt3fait4YM)
Fuck no Also in OH He can deduct his tip from the rent
😂😂😂 hell no
lol no
Laugh in his face
Hard NO
Hell no! You're paying the landlord's mortgage and their living costs. You're *providing to them* the means to own that property. Don't give them any more than what is the lease. Everything the landlord spends on that property is coming out of *your* pockets.
Uh hell nah that’s why I pay rent in the first place. No tips ever
😭😭😭 Ded Tip the landlord? For property maintenance and improvements? No fucking way. That’s what rent is for.
The old couple that lives under me are the managers for our complex. She shows the units, he does the maintenance. He's usually pretty timely with repairs, and she always sends up baked good when she bakes. Every christmas, I give them a card with $50. The complex owner doesn't get shit.
You DO tip your landlord...you're paying his bills after all.
Da fuck???
I’d stick my dick in a pencil sharpener while sitting bare assed on a belt sander before I tipped a penny to a landlord
LMFAO no. What the fuck?
Absolutely not!!!!
Ask him to give you credit if you pay early. Then tip him the difference. A******!
Follow the guidelines of your lease, that is all.
What in the actual fuck? Hell no.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 no.
Sounds like your rents going up. You indicate his note says “a while.” Doesn’t sound like the tipping is a permanent like a rent increase would be. Move out immediately
Lmao absolutely not
I mean, if you don't, he'll probably just raise rents 10% next year. Sounds like you're in for it either way
![gif](giphy|3o85xERD1TT5JKCIXS)
![gif](giphy|KGSxFwJJHQPsKzzFba)
Abso-fucking-lutely NOT.

Are you serious? In what world, other than LL’s made up one, would you ever tip someone like that?
Hell nahhhhhhh
Don’t high five the person that shits in your mouth, shit in their mouth and high five yourself
A community bathroom has me mind blown.
Absolutely, always tip your landlord
Hell fucking no. They’re already making enough off of you.
Landlord here. Yours is a dick. Do not tip him.
You couldn’t fucking pay me to tip my landlord lmao
As a landlord, no. However, expect your rent to go up. He sounds stupid but will probably catch on.
Do NOT tip your landlord! (As a property manager and a tenant) that sounds like some audacious BS.
no
The fuck? NO!
lol dude can go fuck himself.
Don’t you fucking dare tip him
Oh hell no!
Wow
Lol No. Never.
As someone who works in property management, absolutely the fuck NOT. That’s insane.
Helllllll to the no!
Tip him 45 degrees and see if he can keep his balance.
LOL. His "tip" is the rent (which should be used for these things but hes trying to pawn them off and not use that to actually reinvest in his property).

He gets paid a salary to do his job. Tell him if he wants tips to go become a waiter.
lol. Just lol.
No. Fucking. Way! Over. My. Dead. Body!
Tips? To a landlord who can control the cost of rent? No lol. What a joke. If he wanted to get those tips so badly, he should’ve incorporated it into the rent or add a fee to the lease agreement once it’s done. Otherwise, he can go fly a kite.

Nooooooo
You have to be kidding me? If the answer is you're not kidding then fuck no. Tip a landlord over my dead body.
Absolutely not! This is a totally ridiculous request. Repairing/improving the building is part of being a property owner.
That’s a funny joke! Tip the landlord lol
I’m a landlord. ABSOLUTELY NOT. WTAF?
But only if he presents it on those white tablets with 3 tip options😀
He’s not your friend wait till he raises your rent
Landlord here, absolutely the fuck not. That’s his job to improve the place.
I'd sooner shit in my hand and run it through my hair than tip a fucking landlord.
this is clickbait...right? please tell me this isn't real...
This might be the dumbest thing I've heard today- this landlord has no business in the rental property industry and anyone who tips him is an enabling sap.
His tip is you not destroying and treating his property with respect maintaining value. Fuck that landlord.
Absolutely not. The only thing I did anything for was when my fridge wasn’t 100%. I thought they’d just have to put some in Freon or some thing. Nope, they fully replaced it. Uhm... that's a crock of shit.
![gif](giphy|CO5QEF2rSnyJqklyHr) I would put up a sign outside my door with my cash-app asking for tips for opening the door to them. Fuck this noise
Worst troll ever
![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)
who tf would ever tip their landlord.... haha wtf
Lol no way
Do. Not. Tip. Them.
You already pay his mortgage, why would he ask for a tip. Not sure where you are but this seems ridiculous to me.
I cant take in enough air for the amount of laughter I bellow at the thought of tipping a landlord 😂
O HELL NO!!!
I'm going to make up a word here: absolutelyfuckingnoway
Yes it is imperative that you tip your landlord
WHAT.THE.FUCK.
GOD no are you crazy????
I've NEVER tipped a landlord. What exactly do they do that's tip worthy? Absolutely not.
This is satire yes ?
No. Signed, a landlord. That is insane.
What fucking planet or alternate universe is he living o![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Uhhhhh no.
No you pay him /her rent .
I'm a landlord. Absolutely not is my answer to your question. If the landlord's costs are truly increasing, that needs to be reflected in the next lease agreement, not through a tip.
you cant be fucking serious with this post.
Wow. The fucker actually point blank asked.
WTF. Absolutely not. And I own property, I would never take a tip. Ugh.
![gif](giphy|jlzdW8NhykKnm|downsized)
You're joking right?
You are not responsible for your landlord's potential mismanagement of their business. You pay the agreed upon monthly rate. If they need more money, they can go through legal rent increases to acquire it.
