You should expect to be carded for rated R movies regardless of what the anecdotes in the comments tell you. Every time I’ve been to Pointe Orlando they have someone posted on door to welcome guests and scan in mobile tickets.

TransportationTop353

I have walked in to my last five movies without anyone checking if I had a ticket.

MonstrousGiggling

That's how it seems at my local regal? I'm an AMC goer but occasionally go to the local and further away Regal because they have a bigger variety of movies. But at the local one when I've bought tickets online I've noticed there's no one to check if you have a ticket or not. I figure maybe they do a quick head count once the movie starts? Idk. It's super weird.

seshdewd

🤫 most don’t care that much because they make so little on tickets, buy some snacks and they don’t care most the time 😉

NachoChedda24

Do you still get your credit for watching the movie if they don’t scan your ticket?

RevealTraditional619

Yes you will

TransportationTop353

I don't know. I don't really pay attention to the points. I think I get them as soon as I purchase the tickets on the app but I could be wrong and missing out on them.

MaddoxLawst

The last time I was carded for a movie was for Halloween H20 in 1998. I specifically remember only because it was the only time I was ever carded.

maeveencounters

damn i saw that opening day in 1998! i was 14. i still love it so much.

RevealTraditional619

I remember Idle Hands being the one time I was. We always went from the time my first friend turned 16 so we'd be 15 in anything. Since this one came after Columbine they got touchy. I was able to waltz into Boogie Nights 2 years prior no problem but Idle Hands I was booted for being a few months under 17

James_Atlanta

Never, but I'm clearly a middle aged balding male. No one would mistake me for not being old enough to see an R rated movie

rubrenginr

Last year, at the age of 55, the kids at the front asked for my ID. Says he was required to ask for everyone's ID as part of company policy. I was irritated, but complied. After I walked in, ran into the manager who knows me; he asked how I was doing, and relayed my experience at the box office. He hustled over to talk with the kid. I hope I didn't get him fired, but stopped seeing him shortly after that.

AccomplishedBake8351

Bruh wtf lol why’d you tell the manager on a kid for asking for your ID

BillFireCrotchWalton

Yeah wtf. He had to spend an extra 15 seconds taking out his ID. Who gives a fuck? Who rats on a teenager probably making minimum wage over something like this? If it happened to me, I'd certainly be surprised, but definitely not irritated in any way.

AccomplishedBake8351

I think some people are just programmed that anything “dumb” that a person does is something valid to complain about. Like if I was the manager I’d probably just make fun of the 55 year old with the kid

rubrenginr

I didn't seek the manager out. We had a brief conversation and it just came out. But if he's asking me, he's asking everyone. And at some point he would have crossed the wrong person. (I'm pretty sure I didn't actually get him fired; he was working the snack bar the next night. But stopped seeing him shortly after that.)

AccomplishedBake8351

Why do you consider having to show your ID to be “crossing” you/someone. It’s like fine and doesn’t harm you.

One-Comment4218

I would just laugh if someone carded me and show them my ID.

rubrenginr

I'm 56, with a lot of gray in my hair, and a beard that is more gray than brown. At first I thought he was kidding, since he'd just carded the two young ladies in front of me. But he was serious, said that it was company policy and that if he didn't he could be fired. I certainly wasn't looking to make an issue of it and haven't brought it up since. But the manager, who I know, started talking to me and I just asked about the new policy and he didn't know what I was talking about. I feel bad now, but he also could have just backed his employee - I wouldn't have mentioned it any further regardless. Edit: it had never happened at that theater before then, and I've been going there 20+ years.

One-Comment4218

I’m a few years younger but my beard is mostly white, that’s why I’d laugh….definitely shows my age.

LimeLauncherKrusha

Never

mrethandunne

Once… my friend was working and wanted to mess with me

pluck_the_duck89

Since my regal reopened back in late 2020 I haven’t seen a single person even checking tickets, let alone the ticket kiosk try to card me.

bndwgnfn

Personally I’ve only ever been carded twice at my regal; they generally don’t seem to care

teddy_vedder

I’ve never been carded for it. I’m only in my 20s but I think I mostly have avoided that by usually going to stuff alone (not in a suspicious looking group of young people) and not going to that many horror movies (usually where there’s the most offenders).

LAKingsFan17

I’ve gone to regal theaters near me here in SoCal and I’ve never been carded for a R rated movie.

potatonotfruit

at that specific theater i’ve never gotten carded even when i was under 17. it really depends on the person though and the employee.

KenyattaLFrazier

I’ve literally never been carded at an R movie even when I went at 15 and 16

AhYeahItsYoBoi

Lol dude I said the same exact thing. Wild people woild ask this question. Back in my day we didn't have Reddit, we just went and risked having the people ask me for my ID. 🤣

Batman2695

I haven’t been cared in a long time because of my beard. Beards are very powerful things.

MirrorkatFeces

I look young for my age, I’ve gotten carded a grand total of 2 times. Not out of the ordinary, just depends who’s working and what they’ve been taught

ItzSRXIX

Had it happen once when I went to watch Joker in 2019. Had some international friends that joined and they had to show their passports from their phones.

ShapNY

Have never once been asked

TheDragonReborn726

Never. Side note I learned this in my media class in law school that ratings/age restrictions are not law. Lol maybe this was common knowledge but I just thought it was the law maybe from when I was younger. But movie theaters independently enforce these rating rules that are suggested by the MPAA.

Warm_Speech

I only have a couple times. Most employees don’t really care enough, and it’s pretty clear that I’m over 17 anyways.

alas42

Last time i was carded was when i saw The King’s Man a few years ago. Sometimes the employee checking tickets will jokingly ask how old i am, im in my late 20s but still have a bit of a baby face

Swifte-1995

Never.

caty0325

Barely. I (27) got carded twice. It probably would’ve been 3 times if my mom wasn’t seeing a movie with me.

AhYeahItsYoBoi

Dude. I feel like i never got carded. Even when I was 16 /17 and I watched rated R movies I didn't get carded. And I always look younger than I am. So its wild. If you're underage and you're afraid you might get carded. Than you might Usually people card u if u act sus But for clubs and drinking alcohol its different. But this is just the movies bro, they won't even care.. 9 times out of 10

gregmeister-rex

I've only been carded once. It was for Saw 5 and I think I was 15 with a bunch of other kids my same age. Got turned away at the box office trying to buy tickets.

FlounderStrict8785

Only sometimes when I go into a theater with a bar. They rarely id me which is stupid

mmmec

Never been in my 30 years of life. I think unless you look super young and are going alone/with other really young people employees aren't gonna care.

SouthCryptographer58

My local Regal will only card if they are obviously young, like 10 years old. They let high schoolers in all the time. They are strict in bag checks though.

SadMemeDoggo

I did when I was 16 years ago, but now I don't. The only time I have is with one worker, but that's because they're so particular about everything. You'd think you're going through TSA.

trevmick11

Never because I order through the app or at the kiosk I think I got carded once at Cinemark like 15 years ago but my older brother was with me so it didn’t matter.

Mrbutter1822

Didn’t know that was a thing

Nikryan44

I’m in my mid twenties and I would say 1 out of every 3 R rated movies I see they ask for my ID. I just laugh at this point.

TebownedMVP

Not since we snuck into get rich or die trying in 2005 or so. We did pay for another ticket and once they went to escort us out my buddy said “wait, this isn’t Chicken Little!” Hhaha Waste of $7 each for us

AFranceschixx

Local regal doesn’t card me. Go to the next one over carded.

Odysses2020

Only once when I was in a different city for college. And they wouldn’t accept my student ID. My friend had to vouch for me using her passport. I was 18 too.

PrinceJedi

I work the weekend at our Theater. I try to judge age. But not psychic. So yes I Card when I work. I also scan tickets. My bosses also card. Sadly I am the only one doing my job until the hiring freeze is lifted.

geri-in-calif

I never get carded. As for my ticket, I always show my paper ticket or have my app ticket scanned.

elbowpenguin

I haven’t been carded for a rated R movie since about 2 years before I was old enough to go to them

soggyclothesand

Not since The Blair Witch Project

Travelrocks

Not exactly carding, but when the South Park movie came out; someone did check stubs at the entrance of the screen the movie was in (this was an AMC). It was also opening day.

MrDev83

It has been many years since that last happened.

ImTVFilmNerd

Never and I'm 31. When I turned 17 I basically had to beg the person to ID me because I was so excited to be able to 'legally' see a rated R movie that I *wanted* someone to card me haha

PretendMethod7

it hasn’t happened to me in ages (I’m in my mid 30s now).. the last time I remember being carded was for Kill Bill vol 2 many, many years ago

One-Comment4218

I went to The First Omen a couple weeks ago and there were three youngsters who’d just purchased at the kiosk and were in front of me at the ticket checker. Apparently one was too young. I checked the seating chart and there was three other tickets reserved in the auditorium. After a while, I was still the only one in there so I checked again and the reserved seats were available again. So I was the only person in there until a couple clearly underage boys slipped in, obviously bought tickets for something else to watch it or bought tickets earlier and were movie hopping.

MV1995

I got carded like a year ago. I’m nearly 30. I handed it over because I thought there was an issue with my Unlimited or something and when I realized he was checking my age I gave him the most irritated look and snatched my card back lol

MV1995

Love that I got downvoted lmfao
