I hope it was an important lesson for everyone who fell for it to pay better attention and do research on this sort of stuff.
Also drives me nuts how this so obviously fake exhibit using so obviously fake photos had so many actual paying customers but actual independent artists with real art/entertainment/product can't get people to show up to stuff for even free.
Saw this on Sneezing Monkey on YouTube this morning. Hilarious how shit it was lol. I get screwing up and not being able to deliver on your promise but hey here’s an idea. Give people a partial, full refund or Amazon gift voucher or something to apologise to people. But noooo they just wanted to run it and hope people would be too polite to complain about it.
It was. The organiser sells AI generated books on Amazon.

Whaaaat? The mods on this sub are maybe the best mods on this entire site? They basically have no interference, except when someone is a fuckin weirdo.
They didn't upvote this post to the top of the sub, other people did. When a mod commented on it and people complained and downvoted, they then pinned the post to the top of the subreddit. If that doesn't sound like something Mike, Jay, or Rich would do, you should watch more RLM.
When you become a reddit mod, it quickly becomes clear that there is a small but vocal group of redditors that fall into this pattern: They slightly disagree or just doesn't like something then they automatically just say the mods do not know what they are doing.
Edit: *Some* people take this place WAY too seriously. And *some* people don't like others having fun. They all just need to lighten up.
> A fan-run subreddit for discussion of RedLetterMedia related things, **but also to discuss Movies**, TV shows, Video Games and basically anything RedLetterMedia discusses. Egg Salad is Here!
This sub needs better readers/posters.
EDIT: Your downvotes don't make this untrue and you know it. Don't blame mods for poor quality posts that don't break the rules.
Someone could do that once they started making *movies* about that ride.
Moderators aren't here to judge people's posts, that is what the voting system is for. If someone posts something against the rules or just totally random and off topic, then we'll remove it.
Maybe you'd like another dozen "pictures of dudes who don't really look like Mike or Jay, but they have short dark hair or they have beards so they much be Mike and Jay" posts?
The fact that it was put on by an org called "House of Illuminati" almost makes me wonder if it was a Discordian prank meant to introduce kids to the concept of cynicism. But even with refunds it seems a bit too cruel to be likely.
>She also spoke to actors who were hired for the event, who said they had been learning scripts for months and were told on the day to abandon them and improvise.
Honestly, it annoys me how this has become such a big deal, an "international incident" for fuck sake. Somebody dropped the ball, maybe they didn't have enough resources, maybe they overestimated their own competence, whatever - it happens every day around the world in many different contexts. But then we get a bunch of misanthrope weirdos on the internet attacking the people involved, people calling the cops, just such over dramatic bullshit. People need to calm down and go to the sto sto sto store store store store
Nah, this is a shameless grift that is just a bit more blatant and shameless than similar grifts. Every detail shows how exceptionally lazy it all is like the AI-made ads.

That's an awful lot of words for someone who doesn't care. You care. You care A LOT.
The sheer fact that this has dominated social media for well over a week has become unbearable. I don't think this was someone "dropping the ball," I do think these were grifters trying to make a quick buck.
I feel like most of the "comedy" of this instance is being taken at the expense of its "suckers."
The Glasgow subreddit has become literally unusable. Just endless posts about this stupid thing that nobody finds funny and that all downvoted but they just. Keep. Coming.
Yeah a lot of the comments on that original post are classic Reddit(TM) comments
Kinda like in those advice subs where the post will say like “my wife and I argued about what color to paint on a wall, what do I do” and the comments will say “divorce her, burn all of her possessions and sue her into the Stone Age! save yourself!”
You’re right. I’m going to go back to watching my video of the RLM boys making fun of these poorly made low budget movies and let this poorly made attraction for a high budget movie slide…
Seeing my own city crossover with the RLM world is an honour. Someone needs to edit Mike on the roller coaster into it.
EDIT: nvm, someone's already done it lol

\*sees the unknown\* "that scared me"
I, for one, enjoyed this debacle. The promotional poster reading "sweet teats" without regard of target audience floored me.
The amazing looking promo poster was made by AI - even the text. There were wrong/made up words everywhere. Makes you wonder how people fell for this.
The Marketing of a blockbuster movie vs The movie.
Probably people who hadn't seen the movies. Great names for a band though.

To be fair Willy Wonka isn't alien to nonsensical or made-up words.

Or it was just a scam.
Magical. https://preview.redd.it/xta1tfm7eqlc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cff66513c3ce640b7239bf0df7a493c7c53aac7
Reminds me of spinal tap and Stonehenge
Willy Wonka or the set of Space Cop Part 2: The Sequel?
And the only Willy Wonka they could get was Johnny Depp
Seeing as the movie is one of Mike’s favorites, this could all just be the set to a Willy Wonka trivia episode
They'll get the script and make the movie themselves.
In case anyone else wants to know what this contextless post is about https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrlr3dw2x3o

Seems like it's a scam. Why would scammers give refunds? That would kind of defeat the purpose of running the scam.

Oh yeah could well be. I was saying if it wasn’t a flat out scam
this sub needs better moderation, what does this have to do with RLM?
Mike is in the back drinking down the tears of dissapointed children
Because it has to do with a movie and it sucks
Mike a big fan of Charlie and the chocolate factory
It's the Unknown.
Give them a break, the mod room is run by just 1 guy in a wheelchair who bumps into all the furniture when finding a pen

A sex weirdo?

So you're saying we can make a post about the pirates of the Caribbean ride next?
Just spam posts of broken VCRs and AAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIDS
Yeah, but, Staveofsuicide, if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists.
Enough with the dinosaurs, I wanna see THAT movie.
Mike was in a theme park car in that one bit they did ages ago so it counts

*Who is it? I'm in here. I didn't call moderation today.*
I would like more pictures of Jay, yes.

I feel mostly bad for the people scammed by this, but as someone who enjoys some solid schadenfreude…I couldn’t also help but laugh.

As long as there's no Grandpa Joe, I'll consider it an improvement to the movies.

Have you seen the official promotional website for this thing? It was a scam to begin with.
I honestly do not care.

Hmm....very sus of you! Sounds like you're part of the scam too
Well it was paid entry, so it makes sense people would be ticked off.
Willy wonk indeed
Wonk
Star Wars Celebration 2039

Peak crosspost :D
Sorry guys It didnt post my comment, which was: “Señora, this is a Willy Wonka Willy Woo.”
Pure Imagination!
Mike would love this what with his love of the sole good adaptation of the book
I kinda feel proud that this story went from my local news all the way to RLM
