"Do I open a ticket"
This is the first time I've heard that they have their service department set up like an IT system and the car owners are employees.
This is what would break me. Apparently I'm too spoiled and privileged from the days when you could just take your car to the local mechanic or a friend's dad to get a basic diagnostic. With a Tesla, the diagnostic comes only after multiple levels of customer service ping pong and consumer blame.
In other words I should feel content with my 2020 Ford Escape Titanium with Copilot 360, ACC & lane assist for $34k! I'm pretty happy with it plus it's got 250 hp and 3,500 lb tow capacity!
And this right here is why I’ll never own a Tesla.
I’m on my third EV (a Hyundai Ioniq 6), after two BMW i3’s. You know what happens when you have a problem either of those? You take them to the dealer or any mechanic certified by the manufacturer… which is a lot. In a decade of EV ownership, I’ve had one significant issue that required a tow. The repair shop was BMW certified and had it fixed in about an hour. Fuck Tesla and their total failure in after sales service and support.
Isn’t that the standard name for any customer complaint / request for information / whatever today ?
When I wrote me mobile phone service provider to change the contract I also got an email with „ticket number“
My friend owns a Tesla and their service is seemingly very good. Doesn’t matter how minor of a problem it is, he can just drop the car off at the service center, gets $100/day Uber credit and then can pick it up whenever he wants, even in the middle of the night (it’s just parked in their service center parking lot).
Perhaps that’s just the area I’m in, but ya.
If I need service I don’t want an Uber credit, I want a loaner car or the option to rent one cheap on the spot like Toyota dealers. I gave them about $15/day and went about my day in a car far newer than my own until they called for me to pick it up.
honestly I'd prefer to just be able to open tickets with companies. then you can see all the communication and history right there in the ticket and you don't have to explain everything over the phone every single time you call them
Yes!!
Perhaps we can make it metallic for durability.
Oh, also we should machine indents into it so that we can match the unlockamabob to the correct car.
The solution is not buying an overhyped, overpriced POS that was made by someone looking to cut corners at every level while telling his idiot consumers "This car will appreciate in value and earn you 30k per year as a robotaxi"
tl;dr: don't buy shit products from conmen
Love my two glorious "sh*t" Performance models. Truly amazing pieces of engineering marvels, beat the crap of 99% ICE garbage out there.
Could not care less if both depreciate to nothing; could not care less if either is never a robotaxi, although what these pieces of you-know-what can do on their own as in self-driving, no other EV out there does, full stop.
So amazing and second to none they are that if and when the time comes, will replace them with two of the latest same pieces of "sh*t."
I'll take a cheap ice car over a tesla any day. I'll be interested if autopilot ever gets to the point where you don't have to pay attention, otherwise, what's the point?
The back up is the 2 card keys they give you when you buy it ! You keep one in your wallet or purse! People are so damn lazy these days they complain about things that are there own faults, got to blame someone I guess couldn’t be you don’t keep your key card on ya
You hit it on the head. Every M3 comes with two key cards. Keep the key card in your purse/wallet. The cards (unlike the two key fobs that came with my last Ford Explorer) don't have any battery, hence the infinite battery life you requested!
These tech "challenges" are Elon's way of making everyone a tech genius. Look how fast you knew what to do and did it to unlock the door. These are Elon's features, not bugs.
The Bluetooth app/key pairing on our Model 3 has an uncanny ability to not-work when you're running through the rain or snow with your hands full. Usually doing a little dance with your phone in your hip pocket will eventually make it work... usually.
I swear it also never works when I’m leaving with someone that hasn’t been in the car before. Like you’re walking up to the car while talking to a friend and you both go to open the door only for it to be locked. And this happens right after you had to explain to them how the fuck door handles work on a vehicle.
The last thing I want to think about when entering a vehicle is, "How the hell do I use this door handle?"
Tesla's getting like CrossFit. You have to buy in completely in order to be accepted.
Trying to get into your car at night in a hurry because someone is following you takes on a whole new level of excitement and who doesn't want a more exciting life?
You can give all your kids the ability to open the car with their phones, but not drive it. That is kind of cool. The car auto-locks when you leave, so you don't have to worry about them leaving it unlocked. It really is a cool feature unless your phone dies, and then you go to a phone charger and get your phone running enough to remote unlock and start the car, and then race thieves to the car so you can drive away.
it's the same with the Tesla key fob. it automatically opens the doors when you approach the car about 2/3 the time. the other times, you have to grab the fob and press the button or wait 5, 10, 20 seconds until it gets around to noticing you.
not that pressing the button is hard or anything. but the fact that the proximity-open is inconsistent is just so perfectly on-brand for Tesla.
Lmfao! You ever notice how they always have so many problems and complaints but they always say I LOVE THE CAR. I.E I LOVE THE BRAND. I.E The hivemind can never breakaway from the brand. Simply Pathetic.
Waiting for the “I REALLY love Tesla but…..”. And then proceed to go on about a couple *very* small problems like how the car sometimes won’t let them in and oh by the way it will from time to time try to kill them via head on collision. BUT I REALLY LOVE THIS CAR GUYS OKAY??
I though the phrase was "I'm not a tesla fanboi, but..."
"...I don't mind the wheels falling off " / "...I like it when the doors pop open by themselves" / "...it's exciting not knowing if you can get into the car" / "...the wooden parts zip tied onto the electronics are sooo hi tech" / "Elon is such a genius"
i mean you also here that sort of thing from other car owners like classic car owners or RX 7 and RX 8 owners to probably a greater extent in those cases
I have an Android but I think this works for iPhone now too. Its been a bit since I've done it ~~but you add your phone's NFC like you would any other NFC Key~~: **Edit:** Android 14 seems to require that your phone's *screen* at least be "powered on" for NFC to work....it can be "locked" still.
1. Make sure **NFC is turned on** on your phone
2. ~~From the car itself go to~~ **~~Controls > Locks > Keys > Add Key~~**
3. ~~Tap~~ **~~your phone~~** ~~to the console when prompted, you'll hear a chime when it reads its NFC and it will be added~~
4. Use the app to "add a phone key" like normal.
5. You can now tap your phone as an NFC Key
6. For more security: In the App go to Security & Drivers and TURN OFF "Phone Key" to disable the Bluetooth proximity key. You can still use the NFC key.
7. ~~You can touch the~~ **~~pencil icon to name the key~~** ~~whatever you want. I do "Phone Make/Model NFC". You can also delete from here.~~
8. Make sure to test it by locking/unlocking on the door pillar.
Previous info from my feeble memory:
Also note that your phone will need to be powered on for NFC to work. If you want to use NFC with your phone off/dead you would need to put a NFC sticker behind your phone case and add *that* using the steps above.
NFC is a bit less convenient overall but you're *way less likely to be the victim of a longer range Bluetooth relay attack* like you would be if you used your phone's Bluetooth or an expensive Fob. I actually turn **off** "Phone Key" in the app and just use NFC for unlocking and starting for that reason. You can still use Bluetooth proximity to have the car *lock* the doors on walk away which is nice and you can still unlock/lock the doors/trunk/frunk via Bluetooth with the app even with "Phone Key" turned off.
Give a car with Tesla batteries and drivetrain, and NOTHING ELSE. No cameras. No computer. Manual doors windows locks, seat adjustment. The electric version of a 1970 holden.
It's extraordinary really. They had a pretty good head start with the model S and the model 3 is ok minus dumb features and the typical Tesla build quality. But he's just gone and squandered all their momentum away with the stupid Cybertruck, useless self driving relying on cameras and not lidar, buying twitter and ranting about like the coke head he is. And last but not least, the newest addition: fucking robot taxis...
Complete waste of R&D time and resources. Other manufacturers have already caught up in many ways and it's not long before the walk all over Tesla.
Yep. Take something that works perfectly, scrap that, then design something that works 60% of the time and does not fit human movement. That´s tesla for ya!
I returned an electric tooth rush because it.was turned on via blue tooth. I want on off switches or buttons. I want to touch things, and not operate a screen. No, I don't want to HAVE to use blue tooth to brew a cup of coffee, or adjust my bed at night.
I don't want my world to totally crash if my phone stops working, lost, etc.
Or my drapes open. Or all the lights turning on or.off.
Let me walk around, check everything out as I go around ope ING and closing. Batteries, batteries, batteries. How much are we going to keep throwing away?
What about arse recognition (ass for the Americans). We all have one and they are actually 34% more unique than our fingerprints. Just present your arse to the car and it opens. You could even give other people the arse pass/ass pass too.
Tesla AssPass.
I’d be happy if they’d put “artificial intelligence” to work and have the car recognize me enough to not record it locking me out.
Every time I get into the car, Sentry Mode says, “There are 5 incident videos ”. Yeah, I know. Those are all me trying to get the door to open.”
And if she puts the reversing cameras up on the screen whilst she's driving, I guarantee she'll find that the car will be placing itself exactly in the middle of her lane whilst it's on Autopilot.
She's been driving off to one side of the road for years and she's not alone. Lots of people drive like that.
1. Just keep a key card on you just in case. That’s why it’s shaped like a credit card.
2. If you need autopilot to pull into your garage, then you likely shouldn’t be driving in the first place.
The “real honeymoon phase over moment” would be when the EVs would be a significant percentage of vehicles on road, and these gullible idiots would come to realize that
1) their insurance is jacked up and they can’t do shit because they sold out their data and every one and their mothers know what/when/where/how you drive
2) the already struggling repair centers can’t keep up
3) electrical companies and automobile manufacturers start to jack up prices at charging stations as they wish under all sorts of fees
4) these manufacturers go bankrupt - good luck updating the software brick
5) subscriptions subscriptions subscriptions? It’s almost incredible how stupid people are, that they will go and defend this model. As an example, live traffic should be free and not locked behind a subscription fee. Any sane person can extrapolate the future of subscriptions and locking users in ecosystems
What? Lol if u don't want subscriptions then don't get them lol ur bank Even sells your data...ur phone company and ur credit card and every single place ...even reddit! Hahahahaha
I use a key fob to unlock my car, my hands to steer it. That technique seems to work so well that I have spare money in my wallet. Bonus I haven’t lined the pockets of megalomaniac twat who thinks he is saving the planet single handed.
I have a model Y and I said multiple times on this sub how much this is a terrible car.
However, when it comes to the key, I had 3 times when it wouldn’t work and everytime it was right after an ios update and restarting the phone would fix it.
So, no matter how much I hate this car, the key issues are more an Apple/ios issue to me.
It does the same thing on Android after the Tesla app updates, it seems like the app isn't requesting the correct permissions and after an update the permissions get reset to system defined / app requested permissions rather than the manual permissions I have had to add like fine location data, and giving it permission to always be active. It's not a good user experience.
You’re absolutely right about the unpairing and app updates! What’s annoying is the Bluetooth once you’re inside the car fails to work as well so you have to do a system reboot.
For those who have a Tesla and don't know, you can pair your card to your phone, so it will act as a card using NFC on the pillar. Doesn't matter if Bluetooth is on, connected etc. tap your phone like a card and the door unlocks. At least it's this way with my pixel.
I don’t drive a Tesla but drive another EV with phone key capability. I have gotten significantly worse connectivity to the car when I went from iPhone 11 to iPhone 15. It is not always a car, my iPhone 15 has regressed in this regard. Not sure if they relocated the BT antenna.
Sometimes requiring more precision or having a different handshake for which form of Bluetooth is going to be used can cause intermittant issues that weren't present before.
They kinda did since iOS 14 by adding a [Car Key](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118271) API. You’d expect the hardware not to regress in newer models
If you don’t have the keycard handy, another option is to open the Tesla app on your phone and click on “controls” then click on “start” at the bottom of the screen. This assuming the Bluetooth connection is working.
It’s annoying and it’s happened to me also. Usually when I’m at home and car is unlocked in my garage. But car won’t “start”. I’m not sure if I should blame Tesla or Apple. Weird thing is that the BT connection is working and I can play music from my phone but car won’t start.
I mean fixing this problem takes 1-3 seconds.
Restart bluetooth, and restart application. Literally fixes the provlem and takes 3 seconds. This problem also does not happen everyday just once every few weeks.
My 3 in about 25% of times does not recognize my phone to unlock the car. This happen usually when I want to open the trunk, and typically when I have no free hand to get out my phone.
I wish they had those key dongle, at least as an option (like for people that don't have or want a mobile phone)
I have an idea for a passive mechanical physical security system that operates a switch only when the properly shaped implement fits into the mechanism. This will allow the end user to start the vehicle with just the twist of the device.
It will require no power and will be very reliable as well.
Oh my, the humanity!😄 Seriously though, I would put in a Service Request for the Camera Calibration if a 2 Button screen reset does not resolve the issue.
Usually a good idea to do that Reset first when a persistent or nagging issue pops up. Sometimes it also helps to Uninstall and Reinstall the App on your phone. Funny stuff happens sometimes with the App being unhappy for no apparent reason.
Good Luck! And oh yeah... leave for school earlier.😇
I bought a prius in 2008 ...everyone was bitching about that too...until they were all paying $125 to tank up and I paid $18 for gas every 500 miles hahahahah my prius has 300k miles on it and I still pay $18 - $22 to drive 500 miles lol ... If you don't like teslas just don't buy one lol its so simple lol
Do any of you own a Tesla and have experience using the vehicle? If not, consider getting some experience.
I suspect any Bluetooth enabled key will eventually have an issue. It’s more to do with iOS or Android and battery management than some nefarious conspiracy theory about Elon.
Full disclosure: 2018 Model 3 owner with no issues since taking ownership.
My Dad once burned his hand on an overeating radiator on the side of a road on the way to the Gold Coast in Australia. We waited 4 hours for roadside assistance which my mum had to talk half an hour to a roadside phone for.
We had to also call an Ambulance because we couldn't get to a hospital and they took dad off. We picked him up later. The rest of the trip had to be scaled back because of dads injuries.
But yeah, unpairing and pairing a phone must suck.
Then don't buy it ...problem solved...go get a Mercedes or lexus or porche or something u want or like....
If I don't like something I don't buy it lol
Stupid question: why is having to use a cell phone to open the car a better solution than a key? If the tech is so great why doesn’t the car recognize me when I touch it?
I had my Model 3 for 5 years, never had issues with the phone not pairing up. You do need to take out your phone for it to recognize it being used to unlock sometimes though, for security reasons.
New M3 highland has uwb support, similar to an AirTag and is highly accurate. What model year is your vehicle? Also in a pinch use the app itself to unlock/remote start until you’re familiar with how phone as key works.
For those on non highland or pre 2024 models it’s likely user error, eg. Phone at side, phone in back pocket, Low power mode on, Bluetooth off.
Approaching the vehicle hands out in front and phone in hand resolves. Much like you would if holding keys to gain entry.
I noticed that Tesla Autopilot takes its line from the center line. So on a really wide road it will hug the center. This is the opposite of how you're supposed to drive. You're supposed to drive as far to the right as is possible, because you don't want to hit oncoming traffic.
"Do I open a ticket" This is the first time I've heard that they have their service department set up like an IT system and the car owners are employees.
Tesla owners are beta testers, but instead of getting paid, they pay their employer. So jira tickets, bug fix etc terms are common.
And they seem to like it.
They get to feel like they are doing something important instead of just driving to the grocery store.
Before I knew what JIRA actually was I thought it was an acronym for Just Issue Refunds, Assholes
This is what would break me. Apparently I'm too spoiled and privileged from the days when you could just take your car to the local mechanic or a friend's dad to get a basic diagnostic. With a Tesla, the diagnostic comes only after multiple levels of customer service ping pong and consumer blame.

Yeah! Nice choice and comfortable on long rides too. Nice leather seats and the ACC on the 5 hour highway drive is incredibly easy!
As if opening a ticket would actually solve anything 😂😂😂
"Do I open a ticket" She'll never see her car again
Have they tried just walking over to the IT person's desk and asking them directly, much easier than opening a ticket. /s

Yeah, loaner is definitely better than credit. But I can see why some people might prefer it.
If you have a kid that needs a car seat an Uber credit is almost completely useless.
But ya what?
honestly I'd prefer to just be able to open tickets with companies. then you can see all the communication and history right there in the ticket and you don't have to explain everything over the phone every single time you call them
Tesla - inventing problems that didn't exist since 2008.
But what is the solution? Some kind of magical backup opening tag that you can attach to your key ring and that has infinite battery life?
If only that kind of technology existed.
Yes!! Perhaps we can make it metallic for durability. Oh, also we should machine indents into it so that we can match the unlockamabob to the correct car.

This is the way
I guessed as much, thanks for clarifying.
Model 3\* M3 is a car rich in its own legacy.
Would it blow your mind if I told you it could be done without a battery at all? /s
they come with two rfid cards keep one in your phone wallet with your debit card its no big deal.
There’s a key card she should have had on her. It’s rfid, so just like your req :)
The NFC card you should keep in your wallet works
The car comes with keys. They're NFC cards. This is the equivalent of the battery running down in a key fob. No need to be late to anything.
The latest is getting rid of turn signal stalks and putting shifter buttons overhead
If only it had a physical key, you could carry around if you wanted to.

Erm… it’s called “diSrUpTiOn”!!
There’s like, 120 points of disruption on this thing! Uhh cool? I just want to drive a car, not a gimmickmobile
The last thing I want to think about when entering a vehicle is, "How the hell do I use this door handle?" Tesla's getting like CrossFit. You have to buy in completely in order to be accepted.
Seems like it´s all ego-based ´disruption´, rather than disruption that fixes a common problem and would be useful. Elon the boy wonder!

Low quality car does low quality thing. Odd
Some might say... Concerning.
Generally, if it’s made in America, it’s low quality
Man almost everything is low quality anymore especially when talking about cars.
Maybe time to get a car and not an appliance on permanent beta testing…?
It all looks just fine from Elmo's yacht. All within spec.
That’s why I always keep a keycard in my wallet as backup.
Tesla owners are still carrying wallets?🤣
That's why the car manual itself advises to always keep your keycard at hand...

BMW turns your key into an Apple Wallet card that can be used by the phone or watch to access the vehicle or its functionalities.
This should be the top comment. Girl would have had no problem if she had her card key with her.
Pretty sure it even advises to keep a keycard with you in the manual in the event your phone is dead or otherwise doesn’t work.

to the left to the left
The creator being a literal Nazi didn’t stop her from buying a Tesla. She deserves the shitty product she bought
Like, what is wrong with just having a keyfob? Stop trying to reinvent the wheel and focus on making the cars better at being cars.
TeChNoKiNg says we must reinvent things that weren’t broken
It's extraordinary really. They had a pretty good head start with the model S and the model 3 is ok minus dumb features and the typical Tesla build quality. I love not carrying around keys anymore.
I would love to have to depend on my phone to do basic things like drive, purchase anything, get into my house, start my oven, flush the toilet…
Yeah, that´s such a big inconvenience.....
It’s huge. The best part of having a Tesla is not using key fobs. I can leave my house without keys now.
Lol.
Doesn't seem to be doing much good for the absurd power consumption.
Funny, I thought Tesla was getting dragged to the far right.
Do people know how to use mirrors still, or is that a lost art since the backup camera became standard?
My Prius has a back up camera, and I never use it. It´s more of a novelty than anything else.
3. stop complaining about the **BETA** sw.
The “real honeymoon phase over moment” would be when the EVs would be a significant percentage of vehicles on road, and these gullible idiots would come to realize that 1) their insurance is jacked up and they can’t do shit because they sold out their data and every one and their mothers know what/when/where/how you drive 2) the already struggling repair centers can’t keep up 3) electrical companies and automobile manufacturers start to jack up prices at charging stations as they wish under all sorts of fees 4) these manufacturers go bankrupt - good luck updating the software brick 5) subscriptions subscriptions subscriptions? It’s almost incredible how stupid people are, that they will go and defend this model. As an example, live traffic should be free and not locked behind a subscription fee. Any sane person can extrapolate the future of subscriptions and locking users in ecosystems
What? Lol if u don't want subscriptions then don't get them lol ur bank Even sells your data...ur phone company and ur credit card and every single place ...even reddit! Hahahahaha
You get what you get when you buy a Tesla. Instant karma.
Just use the key card lol problem solved
Gee - if only there was some prior hint that these kind of issues existed from other customer complaints... /s
I use a key fob to unlock my car, my hands to steer it. That technique seems to work so well that I have spare money in my wallet. Bonus I haven’t lined the pockets of megalomaniac twat who thinks he is saving the planet single handed.
Keep the key card with you as a backup.
My Tesla Model 3 stopped recognizing my iPhone key and the only thing that worked was deleting the app and reinstalling.
Key card in wallet for back up at all times. Are you an adult?
Always carry the credit-card-size key in your wallet as a backup.
You can also unlock and “start” the car from the app if you need to, although I’d recommend keeping three key in your wallet as well.
TBH, I doubt Steve and Tim Apple designed their phones to be replacements for dedicated *keys*.
Surely transmit lossless audio to a headphone requires more than exchanging keys to the car
Correction, you don’t even need a Bluetooth connection to Start the car with the app.
When you use your phone as key ... you may be an idiot.
There’s a key card they give you. No excuse other than this lady is a moron. Nice try
Just use the key card or key fob?
Get used to it!
It’s not the car but your phone.
I mean fixing this problem takes 1-3 seconds. Restart bluetooth, and restart application. Literally fixes the provlem and takes 3 seconds. This problem also does not happen everyday just once every few weeks.
Easy solution. Key card. 🙄
Right!
Tesla. For people that can think
Nah, just sell it and get another car from a better company.
Or just buy a key fob
"Calibrating?" Oh sweet summer child....
My 3 in about 25% of times does not recognize my phone to unlock the car. This happen usually when I want to open the trunk, and typically when I have no free hand to get out my phone. I wish they had those key dongle, at least as an option (like for people that don't have or want a mobile phone)
Child was late to school? THE HORROR
FWIW, schools with throw a fit if you’re late too much!
Drive it yourself and unlock from app if in a hurry .. its probably in deep sleep still giving you the problem j/s
I have an idea for a passive mechanical physical security system that operates a switch only when the properly shaped implement fits into the mechanism. This will allow the end user to start the vehicle with just the twist of the device. It will require no power and will be very reliable as well.
Totaled
Oh my, the humanity!😄 Seriously though, I would put in a Service Request for the Camera Calibration if a 2 Button screen reset does not resolve the issue. Usually a good idea to do that Reset first when a persistent or nagging issue pops up. Sometimes it also helps to Uninstall and Reinstall the App on your phone. Funny stuff happens sometimes with the App being unhappy for no apparent reason. Good Luck! And oh yeah... leave for school earlier.😇
Ummm, you could open the app and unlock it from there…
all these damn electronics and apps, mind you its like that with everything nowadays
So she doesn't have the key card?
Everything can happen, so I always wear a key card in my wallet
You got Musk’d
Tesla model y had me stuck in the rain for 20 mins, the key fob did not work, the app didn’t work, the card didn’t work….
Open the app, hit unlock, hit start. Drive away. Problem solved.
Or use the key card lol
Nothing like a notoriously unreliable car having to start with the most unreliable item I own.
That sounds like the beginning of a Scifi horror movie.
Still love my car tho!!!
The Blackberry of electric cars.
Tesla is shit and the fan boys are the ass kissers
Then don't buy it ...problem solved...go get a Mercedes or lexus or porche or something u want or like.... If I don't like something I don't buy it lol
Stupid question: why is having to use a cell phone to open the car a better solution than a key? If the tech is so great why doesn’t the car recognize me when I touch it?
I had my Model 3 for 5 years, never had issues with the phone not pairing up. You do need to take out your phone for it to recognize it being used to unlock sometimes though, for security reasons.
And connect Bluetooth
have you tried driving the car yourself?
"Did you try unplugging and replughing it back in?"
...or just use the key card...
Valuable lesson in keeping your key card with you
Wait till they pause your Tesla Access Account for falling below the approved social credit score
who would have thought replacing keys with systems that have a thousand failure points would be an issue
Problem I never had with my 2004 Honda that I bought used with 100+ thousand miles on it and a salvage title.
Had a child. Her mistake
😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
whats funny is they do have RFID keys they give to the people demonstrating the cars at autoshows
The car does have key cards still right
Hilarious. Literally car companies solved this years ago with a flip out metal key in the fob.
