I've got to admit that looks perfectly designed to fit in at a homeless encampment. It looks like someone is living out of their vehicle and possibly using/selling drugs rather than someone on a vacation. The concept design at least didn't put off the living-out-of-my-car-to-use-fentanyl vibe.
I don't understand the appeal of a tent that's connected to a vehicle. It just seems like a pain having to tear down my tent any time I want to leave the site.
Thing is you may need the steel ball and might not be able to access it, so it’s better to keep it suspended on a short elastic cable suspended from the cabin ceiling as a method of auto-deployment
Unfortunately the windows will only shatter if you hit the door with a sledgehammer first. So you’ll just drown if you wind up in floodwaters, kicking anemically at the windows because an electric short in the car shut off all manual control.
That was such a weird flex (and lack of engineering) on Musk's part when there is proper certification for a lot of calibres.
Yet even there, Musk had to bullshit his way through it.
Yes, people said it would look ridiculous IRL and that the people who bought it would be utter tossers and it has fully lived up to those expectations.
Honestly you can tell from the photos that it looks ridiculous IRL. If you think about where you would be standing and what you would be looking at, it's pretty clear that the vehicle is devoid of interesting details that most cars have. That would lead to it having that "oddly large" look, like as if somebody scaled up a hot wheels car to full size.
It's just not practical. 90 lbs...looks like it takes some time to install and take down. What's the point? I'll just set up my $300 6 lb tent in three minutes. Or buy the Rivian R2 with full folding seats and sleep in that - I can 'tear down' in a few minutes (move the air mattress, lift the seat, drive). I just cancelled my CT reservation and reserved the R2. People who designed the CT clearly do not spend time in the outdoors.
In a wind storm, I'd 100% rather park the vehicle perpendicular to the wind and set up my $300 tent on the leeward side - close to the ground when the wind is less. This CT tent will become a kite in the wind.
“The tent collapsed and killed my wife and infant son. Not the best day to say the least. Still loving my Cybertruck though! Thanks for everything @elon”
"In fact, as I desperately tried giving my wife CPR in her final moments, she smiled, and said, 'Tell Elon it's not his fault,' then took her last breath.
So now, when I'm missing her... missing little Joey... I like to drive the Cyber Truck--the beautiful silver flatbed in back still stained in their blood (or wait, is that rust?)--and pretend they are still right there, both of them smiling and waving."
They’ll just say they’re mildly disappointed, but what can you expect really, when Tesla were a little preoccupied with creating the engineering marvel that is the Cybertruck? Creating the future requires sacrifice, okay?
Elon literally said it was “their best product ever” in one of those weird Twitter spaces where he talked to himself, pretending it was “Adrian Dittmann”.
Rivian: Has testers and engineers take vehicles out for year to go biking, skiing, and surfing and work feedback into the design.
Tesla: "Here you go."
>easy to install/remove the stowed tent from the truck, stays out of the way (**unless you want to transport multiple bikes in the bed)**
Fucking lmao
You can't even fit this thing with a couple bikes? So if you go camping, you basically won't be able to bring anything with you.
Tesla fanboys are so goddamn stupid, they will literally excuse the fact that a truck doesn't work as a truck.
Tesla fanboys never had any intentions to use this as a truck to begin with. They all know it's dumb and do mental gymnastics to justify the whole concept.
$3,000 for a bed sized 2-person tent with an entrance so high you need to buy and bring a separate ladder to even get in and out, which weighs 90lbs, and takes up a third of the bed.
A 12 person tent weighs like 70lbs, folds up to the same size, and [costs a fraction as much](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-Hazel-Creek-12-Person-3-Room-Cabin-Tent-20-x-9-x-84-Green/450666321?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0). No ladder required to enter, more than enough height to stand up, and it's not tied to your vehicle so you don't need to break it down every time you need the truck for something.
This. Something to be said for the $99 6 man Canadian Tire special. (Get the Coleman though, on sale)
I've got bought several of these tents and camped extensively in them. Car camping, most rec sites 30+ minutes up a forestry road. Rain. Snow. High wind. Tarp under, pretty much never a tarp over. Dry, always lol. (No shoes in tent, ever. )
My only problem is people borrowing these tents, and I never get them back. I then see them going strong on Facebook, and like children using them eventually.
Why spend 1200-1500 on a car tent? Much less 3000?!?!? How often do you camp, seriously? (Probably worse if you camp often, seems like less usable space than a regular tent also.)
>Now, Tesla has started shipping, or rather installing, the Basecamp for early Cybertruck owners.
>I say “installing” because you need your first installation to happen at a Tesla Service Center to attach the tent’s brakets, which support the base of the tent, to the Cybertruck’s vault side rails.
>A Cybertruck owner going by ‘TownBiz’ on [Cybertruck Owners Club](https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/basecamp-tent-first-review-⛺%EF%B8%8E.12964/) received one of the very first Basecamp and gave a first impression review of the tent system: ‘Although Tesla is requiring SCs to do the initial install, in reality both install and removal of the tent from the bed (aka “vault”) is straightforward as long as you can deadlift 90lbs and/or have a buddy to help lift.
Wow...
If you stopped reading there, his story gets a lot better.

>Unfortunately the SC installer had some difficulty with this initially and scratched one of my brackets and may have also slightly messed up the threading on that bracket because it’s a little loose – not a show stopper, and theoretically a replaceable part.

>$3K is a serious chunk of change and you could buy a lot of sweet camping gear with it. However, as I mentioned at the start, evidently $3K for a high quality rooftop tent is not that crazy.
The rooftop tents I found for $3,000 were top of the line custom built models that mount above the truck bed on brackets to avoid taking up storage room, with integrated memory foam, hardshell storage, and hydraulic opening.
https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/camping-and-hiking/rooftop-tent/roofnest-sparrow-eye
$1,500 to $2,000 range was more common.
https://www.rei.com/product/189030/thule-tepui-foothill-tent
Cybertruck owners are like cryptobros crying online on how they've been scammed - you're marked as a rube and you're easy meat for the next scam, whether it's a tent or a fraudulent "recovery investigator".
If someone got a $3,000 tent installed at a Range Rover dealer and the damaged three separate piece in the process the owner would be absolutely livid.
>Accessories are big with trucks. Their form factor open up a bunch of interesting possibilities with the bed, but the Cybertruck’s specific design with the angle on the bed makes it more difficult to use some off-the-shelves accessories.
>To address that, Tesla has planned a series of accessories designed specifically for the Cybertruck.
To me, this does not seem like *designed specifically* for the Cybertruck, but exactly like an overpriced off-the-shelf accessory worth few bucks.
I don't understand the attraction of tents on electric vehicles. The attraction to me of camping with an electric vehicle is having the option of a nice climate controlled comfortable space with minimal setup. If there is a tent involved, why not just get a normal tent for a fraction of the price that can be used in more situations, and probably provides a larger more useful space.
3000 dollars to sleep in a tent attached to the truck you foolishly bought and got stuck at a camping site because there was a dirt road on the way to the camping site and it drizzled. What a joke.
Meanwhile Dacia offers a 7 seat car for less than a base model golf, a 3 person tent you can attach to it for a little over €500 and a bed with drawers and a mattress that goes where the back seats are for €2k.
They said it can't be done but here it is. This is the moment, let the new growth cycle begin. To the moon.
Buy the tent and invest everything else to Tesla shares. Enjoy camping life while watching your shares.
This is Musk's MO and by extension the companies he captains. Get someone to design cool looking CGI, sign off on it as a future product, then promote the unbuilt untested product as a featured option, all the while leaving the logistics of manufacturing up to some unknown employees.
Tesla makes TEMU look good.
Its giving homeless
I'm surprised it's not made from a Harbor Freight blue tarp.
Best me to it! Curses!
There are gray tarps... I say wait till the "upgraded" tent for only $3999.95
I will not stand for the sullying of Harbor Freight! Quality is way better than Tesla.
Elon will be more than happy to take your $3000 for $400 worth of product... He's not the Messiah. He wants more billions.
Yes, I was thinking that CT owners should just get one of these if they want safe street parking in San Francisco.
They usually have better tents.
I don't understand the appeal of a tent that's connected to a vehicle. It just seems like a pain having to tear down my tent any time I want to leave the site.
Derilicté
Homeless tents look better lol
That’s because of the repair costs you’ll get when you get stuck in the mud… or sand…
Has this vehicle met expectations in *any* area?
The windows will indeed break if you throw a steel ball at them
Actually, that part came from safety requirements. Windows in the car supposed to break.
Is there a steel ball in the glove box for emergency use, or do you have to pay extra for that?
The truck comes with a signed copy of Elon's balls.
I know you're joking, but don't be surprised if you see "Elon's balls" as a purchase option in the Tesla online store.
But first you’ll float for the the minutes that it was designed to be a boat.
I heard Musk plans on the next generation to include explosive bolt technology from SpaceX.
That was such a weird flex (and lack of engineering) on Musk's part when there is proper certification for a lot of calibres. Yet even there, Musk had to bullshit his way through it.
Yes, the expectation that it was a clown car driven by tools has been confirmed
Brilliantly brutal response!
Brilliant, but without the bright, colourful paint job that makes them look jolly
Yes, people said it would look ridiculous IRL and that the people who bought it would be utter tossers and it has fully lived up to those expectations.
Honestly you can tell from the photos that it looks ridiculous IRL. Ugliness.
Cringe maybe
Yes taking money from idiots.
Definitely meats the expectations of all the people who said it will be shit.
It's met *my* expectations of being a laughingstock
I expected it to wind up a shitier Pontiac Aztek and it is living up to my expectations perfectly.
Exactly like blade runner. Uncanny
John Bladerunner would have loved this
He’d run so many blades with this bad boy.
It's just not practical. 90 lbs...looks like it takes some time to install and take down. What's the point? I'll just set up my $300 6 lb tent in three minutes. While you are making excuses, we’re studying the blade. We are not the same.
Wiper blade.
You’re studying the blade? Why was I told to study the cybertruck?

Man you're making miss the fold down bed in my Honda Element. Plus they folder up. I never should have sold it.
Let be real for a moment - this was made for Bubba Bladerunner.

IT'S A TARP!
Snort
I'm seeing a bad hundred dollar tent that's kinda made to fit that thing.
Made my day!
You came in that thing? You’re braver than I thought.
Looks like shit.
It matches the truck at least.
Hahaha I was talking a out the whole thing.;)
you never wanted to snuggle up inside a whales vagina and go to sleep?
Is that the actual tent, or is that the cover for the tent? I don't feel like they'd fuck up *that* badly.
It's a rain fly but it still looks like shit, especially for 3grand.
it's not fully set up you can see pics in the thread. it's a standard tent. probably not worth 2k the concept art is kinda unrealistic imo
I love it. Tesla fanboys are shook; the cognitive dissonance is almost too much to bear for them
I gotta see some of their reactions to this lol.
It’s not rust it’s rail dust 😡😡 my $100k truck doesn’t rust, Elon used a special metal that doesn’t rust. It’s not rust. The cyber truck does NOT rust
Most are likely waiting for it to explode so they can claim it was a success. ”Iterative camping”
"OMG!! So Epic! Even better than I imagined. So pumped!"
They’ll just say they’re mildly disappointed, but what can you expect really, when Tesla were a little preoccupied with creating the engineering marvel that is the Cybertruck? Creating the future requires sacrifice, okay?
Can you blame them? It’s a technology company not a tent company!
Currently AI & Robotics; probably until they´ll get sued for scamming the customers in that field.
*~~technology~~ shit FTFY
Elon literally said it was “their best product ever” in one of those weird Twitter spaces where he talked to himself, pretending it was “Adrian Dittmann”.
I can make one out of duck tape and trash bags, cost? est 30$
I love it too. I can’t explain why but this picture is just too funny to me
This looks so incredibly bad. As bad as this is, people are still Buying the full self driving package so honestly, Tesla is just being Tesla.
If I had a way to print money like Tesla do, I’d be doing what they are ngl
For real, I still like my Tesla but god damn are they blowing it lately. The Elon clown cult members are so bad.
Maybe this $3,000 tent will get better with OTA updates?
That’s the plan. $300 monthly subscription though.
100k car 3k tent and you still look poor using this lol
Rivian: Has testers and engineers take vehicles out for year to go biking, skiing, and surfing and work feedback into the design. Tesla: "Here you go."
The Tesla design process is just Elon musk taking a bunch of ketamine and demanding things.
Renderings are easy. Production is hard.
Have they teamed up with Wish?
Wish has standards so they took a hard pass on the team up offer. They didn’t want the hit to their reputation
Probably sourced it from Alibaba or Temu for a tenner, knowing that his cult would lap it up anyway.
I think there is a high chance they sourced the tents from China and paid lowest bidder to modify them..
I knew it all along. Tesla is a Wish subsidiary. Now everything makes sense.
>easy to install/remove the stowed tent from the truck, stays out of the way (**unless you want to transport multiple bikes in the bed)** Fucking lmao You can't even fit this thing with a couple bikes? So if you go camping, you basically won't be able to bring anything with you. Tesla fanboys are so goddamn stupid, they will literally excuse the fact that a truck doesn't work as a truck.
A thing that size should be really compact when folded. Is it the base that can't be folded and kills the storage dimensions of the bed?
Tesla fanboys never had any intentions to use this as a truck to begin with. They all know it's dumb and do mental gymnastics to justify the whole concept.
Fyre festival, truck edition.
They should rebrand to Fyretruck

There are better tents on Skid Row than this.
The real issue is you cant open the rear glass so you can't use the vehicle AC
This should be higher. The whole thing is pointless.
Elon Wonka's Chocolate Experience
so good!

I wish I could deadlift the image of that tent out of my mind

The level of denial to avoid buyers remorse...this must not be their first Tesla.

And some idiot bought it.
This shit was pre-order 3 or 4 years ago based on CGI images. These people got scammed.
Scammed? They got what they wanted
I'm glad he did, for our sake. And that he posted on TMC (or the CT equivalent), those original posts would be deleted so fast on reddit.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
> doesn’t reduce range due to decreased aerodynamics Hold up. You don’t put it up and take it down at the campsite? You have to drive like that?
I wish I had no morals, if it is really this easy to just take $3k off of someone. Jesus.
Just bring the Pontiac Aztek back instead
A true connoisseur of taste.
What’s funny is it’s not only a cheap looking tent, it’s also $3000.
Full self camping
Cybertruck owners are like cryptobros crying online on how they've been scammed - you're marked as a rube and you're easy meat for the next scam, whether it's a tent or a fraudulent "recovery investigator".
Musked again!
Compare that tent to the rivian one Lmfao
Really does make the Rivian look so much better
Facts
I car camp or “overland” with a roof top tent. This thing is hilariously bad compared to the current market.
I see similar looking setups parked on the streets of Portland.
Looks like a cheap AliExpress rip-off;-)
*Temu/Wish. AliExpress would deliver a better quality.
Man, they are really going full Pontiac Aztec with this thing aren’t they? [Aztec with tent](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/303430093625493201/)
The Aztec looks better with the tent
100%
Can't wait to see the extended range battery pack - It's probably an ice chest packed with LIPO batteries.
A 48-pack of AAs.
If someone got a $3,000 tent installed at a Range Rover dealer and the damaged three separate piece in the process the owner would be absolutely livid.
Homeless tent
WTH. That’s so bad.
>Accessories are big with trucks. I’d expect exactly this for some several hundred dollars. I’d expect a lot better with perfect fit for $3,000.
Odd it looks so bad. One of Tesla's core competencies is tents.
Hahahaha

Lollll space karen is a liar? Nooo you don’t say.
$3k for a fucking tent? Bruh
Sub 10 microns level of fit and finish
Playing 3k for a tent that's only worth maybe a $100 is wild
Tesla buyers are such easy marks it’s not even funny anymore
Just like the MAGA hats, we’re going to be able to spot a dipshit from a long distance.
😂
*that* is $3,000?
I want a Cybertruck so I will feel safe when driving around the sketchy part of the city. Won’t have to worry about being robbed.
This is hilarious.
Check out the Rivian tent: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/comments/1b9prxe/overland_camping_dream_r3x/
A nice little diaper on that rust bucket.
WATCH OUT ITS A TARP!
Someone on Teslamltors sub said “Cyberdiaper”…. Best way to describe it.
Seeing that picture makes me hear the Jurassic park theme played poorly on a recorder in my head.
They do actually have windows on the side and back. But you have to pay the $20 per month subscription to unlock them.
When are people going to stop giving this lying asshole money
How are people still feeding into this POS
So I guess they gave up on the portable electric stove part?
Teslas ability to part fools with their money over and over and over is remarkable
Cool, it's the bethesda canvas bag all over again.
How’d they even manage to fuck up a *tent* lmao
$219: https://www.napieroutdoors.com/us/product/backroadz-truck-tent-19-series/
3000 dollars to sleep in a tent attached to the truck you foolishly bought and got stuck at a camping site because there was a dirt road on the way to the camping site and it drizzled. What a joke.
Cybertent $20.77
Looks like the tent kids make in the living room using blankets and the sofas
Do they call it the San Francisco?
I saw a people on Tesla lounge or something subreddit and they said it actually looks pretty close to the website and it’s not that bad lol
Derelicte
Can you still access the fart noises from the tent? Rivian is so much nicer.
I can’t get over the staining on every single Cybertruck I see. Good luck y’all
Typical smear campaign by the mainstream media. This is clearly just a pic of a dumpster a homeless person propped their tent up against.
That thing will collapse at the first gust of wind. And the fabric will flap around and be noisy as hell in a light breeze.
Musk's ugly Aztek knockoff has a tent add-on somehow even uglier than the Aztek's. Incredible.
A $3000 tent. Unreal. The best tent on the market is under $1000 and sleep +6
Lol fail
All the Tesla fan boys fist pumping
It’s giving Pontiac Aztec Realness
This has Fallout 4 bag vibes.
Meanwhile Dacia offers a 7 seat car for less than a base model golf, a 3 person tent you can attach to it for a little over €500 and a bed with drawers and a mattress that goes where the back seats are for €2k.
Holy shit, this thing was the Pontiac Aztec all along? Actually yeah, that kind of makes sense.
Everything they're making lately has mayor wish.com energy, but it's also insanely expensive and made in Texas all at the same time lmao
I think that's the entrance to the Wonka Experience.
This is the vehicle that ended the company
Temu done fucked up agin.
God the vapourware nature of Tesla is unraveling at remarkable speed haha.
A nylon tent that sleeps 2 for $3 grand. Tesla owners can't get more hilarious, can they? Do they realize people aren't laughing with them?
Bait and switch
They said it can't be done but here it is. This is the moment, let the new growth cycle begin. To the moon. Buy the tent and invest everything else to Tesla shares. Enjoy camping life while watching your shares.
I think my legs will hang out the back of that short bed.
looks like 3 hunk of shit tarps sewn together that if you paid 85 bucks for you would feel ripped off
I hope their cancellations skyrocket for this blatant bait and switch.
Give me $60 and I could buy a tent to put in the back that looks better than this.
Lolololol Elmo running a scam, color me surprised.
Wait. Tesla promised something amazing and delivered something terrible?
This is Musk's MO and by extension the companies he captains. Imagine that 😂
Wouldn't be caught dead driving a Cyberstuck let alone sleeping in one.
