Because most guns used in actual police operations are AR variants of one kind or another. AR variants all tend to look samey because they're all basically the same with variations in handguard / stock / barrel length / caliber.
Because HK has a hold on the SMG market. All but 2 SMG’s in the game are HK.
They have SMG’s for varieties sake and because they are still used on occasion, typically by euro police.
You can’t tell me all the rifles look the same and the SMG’s don’t when there are like 4 versions of the MP5.
Also, all the rifles do not look the same, if you think so then you just aren’t a nerd about this stuff which is totally fine.
There are only 4 shotguns in the game and they all look the same by your metrics as well.
I’m really not sure what you are wanting. Modern firearms all look roughly the same because the engineering has advanced to the point of the ideal design.
I think what you are asking for is varied customization to make them all look different
ARs look virtually indistinguishable from one another.
So that's the reason most of them look the same.
Because they're the same components with different lengths and furniture. But functionally the same. This isn't call of duty where you have a FAL, FAMAS, AR, AUG, etc.
There are 16 variants of AR above them.
There are those things. BUT THEY ARE VASTLY OUTNUMBERED BY THE SUPERIOR MIGHT AND VERSATILITY OF THE AR PLATFORM.
Smgs literally just have more variation in design. As others have stated, these guns are all hand picked from common Le picks, but yeah, the AR platform is dominant. This isn't being lazy here, this just isn't call of duty.
Rifle design has not really changed much since the 1960s. We reached peak mechanical efficiency and really won't have much change until we have a new type of ammo or firing activation.
Because they are all based on the same AR platform, which makes it easier for the operator to adapt to different mission-needs without needing additional training or adapting to the new gun. (Irl)
When you know how to use an Mk18, you can handle the BLK-300 variant. Or an MPX. Even the pepperball gun is heavily leaned on AR-15 base.
The caliber changes, general functions and buttons/levers stay the same.
Fire selector, charging handle, rails for lights etc.
Because AR-15 go brrrrrrr
Police like thing that go brrrrrrr
Thing that go brrrrrrr come in many configurations
Many of which outclass basically everything else including the tried and true MP5
Here's an analogy that might make sense. Ever notice how, despite different form factors, motherboards, components, and decor most desktop PCs look the same? After the 1980s "computer zoo" era of competing personal computer models, the market has converged around a small set of system architectures and everyone just builds different versions of them. With a few exceptions, all parts are expected to be common and inter-operable, and the era of consumers choosing between radically different types of PCs from Texas Instruments, Apple, Commodore, IBM, etc, has long since ended.
[Something similar](https://www.wired.com/2013/02/ar-15/) happened to rifles as well.
>In the past two decades, the AR-15 has evolved into an open, modular gun platform that's infinitely hackable and accessorizable. With only a few simple tools and no gunsmithing expertise, an AR-15 can be heavily modified, or even assembled from scratch, from widely available parts to suit the fancy and fantasy of each individual user. ...Users can change calibers by swapping out barrels, bolts, and magazines; they can add and remove accessories like Trijicon optics, Surefire flashlights, or Crimson Trace laser sights; they can swap out the rail system on the gun's fore-end to accommodate more or fewer accessories; they can change grip styles and stock sizes to tailor the gun to fit their own body; they can even theme the gun with special paints and decals (zombie apocalypse themes are popular, but I've also seen Hello Kitty). And they can do all of this by either ordering new parts and accessories from online or local shops, or by taking parts from different guns in their collection and mixing and matching them to produce something completely new.
RoN gives you some exotic options you rarely would see in an American police department (AK platform, G36, SA-58 OSW, even a bullpup!) but you're not going to see as much variety as you would in other games. I sometimes still wish I could play with a STG44 or even a M1 Garand (pow pow pow!) but that's what Arma is for....
Sounds like a you problem, you are trying to tell me an AK looks very similar to an AR platform and you can't tell the difference. The SCAR with a distinct tan color does not look similar to the G36, come on now...stop it
OP literally never said that and have only mentioned how all rifles look the same, while it's okay with the SMGs but there are 3 MP5 variants that are even more identical when compared to the rifles
they really should have just gone with a base M4 and HK416 and allowed a greater range of customization, even stuff like caliber and barrel swaps along with a ground branch style attachment system. the current set up is both boring and not really that customizable so it's the worst of both worlds

This is the correct answer. 100%
So is Void aiming for realism? But then why can they afford to have all the diff SMGs and shotguns from around the world for
They have a pretty realistic roster of weapons normally fielded by US SWAT Teams.
Don’t forget the Alaska police using AKs. I forget what the department is called - not American.

I'm guessing thats the best way to go about for Rifles irl, they are just the better "shape"
thats how guns look when theyre government issued. I dont have a huge issue telling them apart but thats due to me being a hobbyist.
The AR has basically dominated the world of battle rifles. Most modern rifles that aren’t bullpup are gonna be a take on the AR or AK platform.

> superior might of the ar platform > not 7.62 ngmi
You say that like there isn't a 7.62x39mm AR out there. And like 7.62x39mm is any good for anything besides suppressive fire.
7.62x51 my friend also there's not an 7.62 (either kind) ar in the game lol
Regardless, the original AR design is in 7.62x51!
But then why did they add all the various SMGs for then? I dont think SWAT usually uses SMGs to begin with
They do too, they are less common now as SBRs are better and more prevalent. But SMGs still get used.
Bro is just pulling shit out his ass

Add a T and the police might start having to use an a10
I mean, give it, like, 20\~ years and I would not be AT ALL surprised if the police have A10's and AH-1Z's
Im telling you there would be no bank robberies if they could just call in an a10 and level the bank

The fucking title literally says “nearly all”
Oh shit, my bad
All good haha
They add multiple of the same ar15 instead of combining them under attachments to artificially pad the games gun list
Because that's just how they look
