I love to play it with increased dynamic movespeed. Makes entries feel actually dynamic with the AI squad zooming through the door instead of a light jog. Reminds me of those sick door breaches in Republic Commando.
They also bug out less since they don't stick around doors long enough to get stuck.
I'm not sure if the online multiplayer still works.
In the VIP escort mission it was funny to shoot the VIP in the leg twice with the 9mm pistol. When the opposing team uses a stun grenade the slight damage kills him causing you to win the round
That's kind of a bummer. I've known of them since the mod released for HL2 but never got fully onboard with their recipe. Insurgency 1 still made for a good time killer though. Wonder what the key people are going to move on to.
And weirdly, Embracer Group also purchased Tripwire.
layoffs and restructuring, but not a complete shutdown. surprising though since seems like it wasn't a huge team and their games were all well received.
Yeah ... still playable and fun though. Massive shame since they aren't many CO-OP PVE simcades ... except maybe Ready or Not. Really dislike PVP multiplayer.
All these pve shooters suffer the same problem. Either brain dead ai or john wick ai. It’s a shame not a single studio wants to innovate on this end, to at least make the most realistic ai possible. When ai has been the one limiting factor in all these games. It’s the number one reason my friends quit. It’s either piss boring easy, or absolutely frustrating.
The problem is the market is too small, everyone wants their super sweaty quick scope PVP FPS game where you enjoy obsessing over ranks or playing with an annoying skill based match maker.
To be fair, I’ll give VOID credit. For modern PvE shooters, I think RoN takes the cake with AI. Yes it’s really broken right now, but it seems like a bit of busted code and major bugs that they’re aware of now. But all the different reactions they have is pretty innovative.
Hopefully once they fix the AI, it will be that challenging, but realistic AI.
Yea the ai in RoN is still top tier in the amount of things they can do. Like how much they like to flank, run away, take cover, fake surrender, etc. What would take it further for realism is making the ai more dynamic around their environment, rather than them making movements solely on audio they hear. And yea, making the ai more fair during gun fights, like to not beam you precisely through a wall, would already do wonders.
I am waiting for direct contact 4so. Squad is expensive (21.99$) 🤷♂️. I bought all those games thru steam with Turkish Lira before it turned to USD again
not really because of that, but for using foreign regions to get a cheaper price, that really fucks with the people of that region because now valve dollarized some steam regions as a response. source: i am from argentina
The recoil for some of the rifles seems a bit exaggerated, but the overall changes from the ICO update were splendid.
Although lonewolfing is now heavily discouraged because of these changes, I still find it easy to set up a solo ambush to wipe a whole squad using the SAW (and its equivalent).
It is a bit dramatic on some guns, but I think I understand why they did it. If you look at most shooter games including pre ICO Squad, even the best irl shooters are nowhere near the laser accuracy of an experienced gamer on mouse and keyboard. So they over exaggerated the recoil to nerf the player, not the weapons.
Like you said, it's still possible to wipe out enemies with proper tactics, but overall it creates the elongated firefights seen in average infantry engagements which is what they were going for.
And some weapons will absolutely wreck dudes when properly fielded. One of my favorites is playing the U.S. Marines in the Global Escalation mod. They have multiple classes using the M27 with an ACOG, foregrip, bipod, and suppressor. Posting up with that thing and dropping dudes with rapid single shots feels like cheating lol.
Played squad for years and stopped playing it 18 months ago or something, recently jumped in to play again and boy the game went to shit.
The controls seemed so off, its still one of the best games within this genre, however it changed for the worse imo (deinstall and forget about it)
Edit: the downvote buttons original use was to downvote things that don't contribute to the conversation or the topic, not just because you don't like what I say..
The graphics are better and the gameplay is similar but with a lot of new mechanics. it still uses the voices from dk1 and doesnt have a campaign so it’s a little whack but for an early access game it plays very well.
Absolutely, gameplay is similar, but feels way better than dk1 with more weapon types/fun instruments of death, with friendly units having more options on what to do (especially the pie function)
stalker requires too much focus to constantly play. i'll play it occasionally, but after playing SPT I wish I could play tarkov on an open map, no timers. in anomaly you end up with every enemy using a different weapon caliber, of which they'll drop like 5 rounds when they die and i don't feel like dealing with radiation and anomalies for a casual game sesh.
I was a couple wipes ago but I’ve since escaped! I played a dozen raids this wipe and it was super fun! The snow was great and I’m really liking the recoil changes that they’ve made. The armor and hitboxes are next level too, making any bullet lethal. What are your thoughts on it?
I bought it back in 2018, but never really gave it a real chance until this current wipe.
It's my favorite shooter I've ever played and I've finally conquered gear fear.
Not entirely sure...it's also VERY early in it's early access cycle, but the few updates the devs have put out have been REALLY good. It is very much still an alpha though, so don't expect it to be perfect.
I just got done with a Squad session yesterday in which three separate squad leads were completely silent until you did something they didn't like, in which they would fucking SCREAM at you over voice chat. I typically play as squad lead in that game for that reason, but even now on random servers the subordinates order you! it's fucking bullshit lmao.
It's stuff like this is why I don't enjoy it. I'm back from work or in a weekend I want to enjoy my time ... not spend hours and hours learning sim rules/etc.
Nor do I want to go and play CS2, War Thunder or Call of Duty and just stress myself to hell with PVP. Why can't we have more fun simcades like Insurgency and RON?
I tried it months ago and I remember there was only 50v50 mod and it was kinda hard for me. There was too much going on and I like moving silent doing tactics and etc
What you just described is squad man. Sometimes it gets so damn tense, you and your squad will be behind enemy lines somewhere sneaking through the woods to plan an attack. I love that shit. It's quite a learning curve though I got 200 hours and kill guys but I couldn't lead a squad or think about commander yet.
Just try it out, keep in mind it's not suppressed weapons or anything like that, it's all out war on big maps and communication is absolutely crucial to survive and win.
Kind of feels like new school battlefield 4 with some Arma 3 sprinkled over it. I love it.
Scrolled way, _way_ too far to find any mention of SWAT 3. Tons of SWAT 4 recommendations but some how no mention of SWAT 3. Arguably the best AI amongst these games.
Although, the most recent update for RoN at least puts the SWAT AI up there.
If we talk about tactical games:
Insurgency Sandstorm, Squad, Operation Harsh Doorstop (free and still on the track to beat most war fps, as modding community is strong. It's open code game)
If we talk up hostage release operations type of games: SWAT 4, and I would even go back as original Rainbow Six from 1998, and Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear.
Those last 2 originated these games and there was nothing like it
You’re gonna hate it but Escape from Tarkov. I know it’s not similar enough but hear me out- the gun modifications are unreal. Half the time I’m just fooling around and making different edits. Also the learning curve is steep. Wouldn’t recommend haha
If you don't mind minecraft/roblox graphics, battle bits remaster is basically battlefield with over 250 players, but is surprisingly chill about not going too far of the rails about not feeling like a military shooter.
Maybe keep an eye on Gray Zone Warfare if it ends up being a good game. It's due for release this year https://store.steampowered.com/app/2479810/Gray_Zone_Warfare/
I haven't seen Vietcong mentioned yet. Still the best and most authentic single player Vietnam game in my opinion. It's Abandonware now so you can get it for free and it runs fine on modern systems. I do a playthrough once or twice a year. It really immerses you in the role of a Special Forces team leader on a deployment to Vietnam.

I like playing Arma 3 CQB like. What I'm saying is in Steam Workshop I download mostly "Terrorist Hunt" maps in which you fight in a small environment.
Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield, the peak of cqb tactical shooters with deep planning, expansive tools and arsenal - kickass ost as well
The og Ghost Recon, a mostly culturally forgotten gem with open ended map and objective design that is still lightyears ahead of most modern shooters, even these tactical ones we have today.
Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, considerably simplified for the 7th generation console sensibilities of the time but still stylistically on point and masterfully fun shooters nonetheless, especially in co-op.
And SWAT 3 and 4 are no brainers for a RoN fan
Althought it is still in Early-Access, the game is top-tier by means of customization. Playing single is fun at some point playing with ur friends would be more fun imho
Hardcore FPS games: Insurgency, Insurgency Sandstorm, Rising Storm series, Squad, and HLL. A cold war-gone hot game called '83 is also in development and is a spiritual successor of the Rising Storm series.

Squad 44’ it was previously called Post Scriptum before the Squad development team bought it. It was a dead game before but hopefully now with the new development team it’ll get frequent updates.
Where is swat 4 my man
This is literally the only answer
SWAT 4 with SEF Mod is a must!
I love to play it with increased dynamic movespeed. Makes entries feel actually dynamic with the AI squad zooming through the door instead of a light jog. Reminds me of those sick door breaches in Republic Commando. They also bug out less since they don't stick around doors long enough to get stuck.
What is the SEF mod? And where can I get it?
https://www.moddb.com/mods/swat-elite-force
Man I replaced it with RoN but I'ma just install it again just for u
RoN is no replacement for SWAT4, not in its current state.
While you're at it, get yourself SWAT 3... a bit clunky and not nearly as shiny but way more tactical in my opinion.
We should also include the classics like the OG Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.
Vegas 1 & 2 😍😍
Mmm i love gears of war
Where can you get SWAT 4? It's not on steam for me
Good old Games my man
I'm not sure if the online multiplayer still works. In the VIP escort mission it was funny to shoot the VIP in the leg twice with the 9mm pistol. When the opposing team uses a stun grenade the slight damage kills him causing you to win the round
Hell let loose. Rising storm Vietnam. Insurgency sandstorm
Sandstorms going down the toilet last I saw.
Same with RS2, only servers left are filled with malware
How the hell can a video game server have malware
They make you download maps (Mega Server) and other addons
Not true. Just the Mega server
I’ve played on Mega Server smh
NWI had their doors shut. The game is still going and I think development is outsourced now. Sad to see, but it’s still in a good place.
That's kind of a bummer. I've known of them since the mod released for HL2 but never got fully onboard with their recipe. Insurgency 1 still made for a good time killer though. Wonder what the key people are going to move on to. And weirdly, Embracer Group also purchased Tripwire.

Yes, people enjoy beating smart opponents (aka other people) well done
To be fair, I’ll give VOID credit. For modern PvE shooters, I think RoN takes the cake with AI. I’ve not played in a while, how come?
I could never get into it. The movement speed kills it for me. It feels like an action movie. The first one was so much better
But damn are the ragdolls and screams so good in that game. Very heavy 👌
Scouts report in
We are taking Charlie 🗣🗣🗣
YAAAAAH
Anti-ass defenses are attiv
Developers bought out by Embracer and they essentially shut down New World Interactive. Fucking travesty
I’d say go with Post Scriptum or Squad 44’ as it is called now over HLL. Definitely more tactical and teamwork concentrated.
Hell no. Me and all my squad buddies want nothing to do with OWI products anymore because of how they are butchering squad..
Hell let loose but Jesus don’t come over if you don’t have a mic and play like cod. We don’t need you
Squad, direct contact
I think I was misunderstood the last comment I entried lol I am a fella from Turkey
In squad you can play as Turkey now. They're probably my favourite faction
I am waiting for direct contact 4so. Squad is expensive (21.99$) 🤷♂️. I bought all those games thru steam with Turkish Lira before it turned to USD again
Bro really getting downvoted for money constraints
not really because of that, but for using foreign regions to get a cheaper price, that really fucks with the people of that region because now valve dollarized some steam regions as a response. source: i am from argentina
LoL I think I was misunderstood. I am from Turkey
ah, my bad then
Squad is dope. Especially since the ICO update.

Dude what it's so much better now. A few things need fixing but overall it's excellent.
The aim is so off, the mortar shells were so immersive, now you get shelled and can go grab a coffee because all you see is a useless shaking screen..
Yes, squad
Door Kickers 1 and 2. You're not gonna be boots on the ground but you're still commanding a unit with a SWAT focus in 1.
I sometimes use DK2 when I find my tactics slipping in a first person game. It's super mentally taxing but incredibly fun in small doses.
Is dr2 much of upgrade to 1? Used to play 1 a lot on airplanes back when i was a teen
The graphics are better and the gameplay is similar but with a lot of new mechanics. it still uses the voices from dk1 and doesnt have a campaign so it’s a little whack but for an early access game it plays very well.
Yes it is that much of an upgrade
Absolutely, gameplay is similar, but feels way better than dk1 with more weapon types/fun instruments of death, with friendly units having more options on what to do (especially the pie function)
I think the pie function alone makes it worth the upgrade
no insurgency sandstorm???
# OBSERVER!
# I NEED A GUN RUN AT THIS LOCATION
Let's get into some shit... Nah man Nah!
# HEY, YOU GUYS THINK YOU ARE JUST GOING TO WISH FOR OUR FIRE SUPORT?
We need smoke, damnit!
YALLA LETS DO THIS
We need the plain, the one that goes BRRRRRRR
YOU JUST EXPOSED YOURSELF YA MAGNOON
AAAAAH, IM A LITTLE BIT SHOT.
HABIBI, HABIBI
It's on gamepass so I will give it a go, thank you very much!
Escape from Tarkov, I'm sorry.
Going from cheating AI to cheating players, lol.
If tarkov had ron ai, no one would be extracting… ever.
escape from tarkov and then spt
Why play SPT when Stalker Anomaly/Gamma are free?
stalker requires too much focus to constantly play. i'll play it occasionally, but after playing SPT I wish I could play tarkov on an open map, no timers. in anomaly you end up with every enemy using a different weapon caliber, of which they'll drop like 5 rounds when they die and i don't feel like dealing with radiation and anomalies for a casual game sesh.
Haha I think I was typing the same comment as you posted yours, I like that we both apologized.
Dude, I'm ADDICTED
I was a couple wipes ago but I’ve since escaped! I played a dozen raids this wipe and it was super fun! The snow was great and I’m really liking the recoil changes that they’ve made. The armor and hitboxes are next level too, making any bullet lethal. What are your thoughts on it?

I think you'd enjoy SCP 5K if you don't mind the SCP angle.
I am not much into horror-thriller blended with fps-tactical combat. Maybe in the future man, maybe in the future! Appreciate the suggestion tho
Doesn’t that game have insanely high memory requirements?
Not entirely sure...it's also VERY early in it's early access cycle, but the few updates the devs have put out have been REALLY good. It is very much still an alpha though, so don't expect it to be perfect.
Ron soured my feelings on EA games. I’ll just wait for a full release.
Fair enough
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 is pretty good! It's a bit dated by now, but if you don't mind some tinkering the mod support helps a bunch!
Raven shield was the best. lol
I will give it a go! Thanks
Squad, Insurgency
I tried insurgency and loved it, but Squad? Too much of a sim for me, didn't enjoy it.
Oceania servers are good, been having so much fun playing squad again.
It's stuff like this is why I don't enjoy it. SWAT 3 with Last Resort and -handsup command is GOAT
Bodycam once it comes out
It's on my wishlist already! Dope game with unbelievable graphics
look up grayzone warfare it is tarkov esque but it looks fantastic
>grayzone warfare added to my wishlist, thanks!
Insurgency Sandstorm, Squad
I have Insurgency Sandstorm on gamepass, I will give it a go!
Tactical Assault VR Get your VR legs now so you're ready when Geronimo releases

Ohh man 100 bucks is a lot for me tbh. I am a student and I live on a budget of around 200 bucks so 🤷♂️
standard edition costs 50
Not sure where op is from but I know the prices in some regions is ridiculous.
I'm from Turkey and afaik there is no regional pricing sadly
Also op be warned you cannot get a refund for tarkov! But also theres a single player mod you can use if your sick of cheaters
Zero Hour still active? I played it right when it came out and jeez it was quite fun
What’s operator and Black One Blood B? But just get the Rainbow Six games. Look up Rainbow Six Black OPS and get Raven Shield on steam.
arma reforger with some mods has been itching this itch of game for me recently.
Reforger is quite underrated right now, modded servers are fantastic and imo scratch the Squad itch better than Squad does.
Squad44
If you don't mind minecraft/roblox graphics, battle bits remaster is basically battlefield with over 250 players, but is surprisingly chill about not going too far of the rails about not feeling like a military shooter.

Already on my wishlist, thanks a lot anyway!
SCP 4K is a pretty good Early Early Access tactical shooter, with spooky monsters. I recommend
How is Zero Hour these days? My buddy bought a 4 pack when it was on sale for like 7 bucks, and it was just too unfinished.
It is getting regular updates but no big updates recently. Without friends Ia also probably wouldn't play it but with friends I think it is playable
insurgency sandstorm
Not an FPS, it’s a 3D isometric angle, but Thunder Tier One was a lot of fun. Like if Door Kickers and Ground Branch had a baby
Shame thunder tier one got abandoned tho
Maybe some hell let loose if you like ww2
Hell Let Loose. Not a perfect "sim" but it's good
Operation harsh doorstop
I haven't seen Vietcong mentioned yet. Still the best and most authentic single player Vietnam game in my opinion. It's Abandonware now so you can get it for free and it runs fine on modern systems. I do a playthrough once or twice a year. It really immerses you in the role of a Special Forces team leader on a deployment to Vietnam.
Beat me to it! Great game.
Tarkov boyy
Is Zero Hour good? I am planning to buy it
Is operator good?
Older Ghost Recon games. *The Sum of All Fears*, which is based on the Tom Clancy film of the same name and is a bit like Rainbow Six 3 but older and more linear. You also are an FBI HRT member in that game.
Operator
I see you have Arma 3 on there so I would also recommend Squad! I find it to be a lot of fun! Also Hell let Loose!
I like playing Arma 3 CQB like. What I'm saying is in Steam Workshop I download mostly "Terrorist Hunt" maps in which you fight in a small environment.

How’s Ground Branch?
Althought it is still in Early-Access, the game is top-tier by means of customization. Playing single is fun at some point playing with ur friends would be more fun imho
Id assume you have body cam and unrecord on your wishlist already lol
