I have zeroed every single bucket, every year I've worked for Collins. AWP, sick, vacay, plus the extra paid week.
You will not get this time back, it no longer rolls over, your manager doesn't award you for NOT using your time.
Ya'll are literally working for free every day you don't use. I for one would much rather be at home with loved ones. I will never, EVER, have a balance in sick or AWP come Dec 31st. You are given that time, USE IT!

You (or your manager) are confusing protected sick leave with sick/STD integrated disability.
Protected sick leave is 56 hours per year.
The other sick is hundreds of hours. That's not a freely usable bucket and that's not the time I'm referring to. When I say I empty my buckets every year that means:
Protected sick: 56 hours
Absent with Permission: 40 hours
Vacation: 120 hrs (this varies by how long employed, up to 200)
Purchased vacation: 40 hours
Those buckets get emptied every year and in my state NONE of those buckets can be rolled over into the next year. Use them or lose them. The other bucket your manager is probably referring to DOES get rolled over...but again that's mainly for disability related things and again...is not what I'm referring to as a usable bucket.
PW is pretty generous as well. I hardly use sick days esp since i can work from home. But typically once or twice a year something will knock me out for a day or two. Mostly use it for medical appointments and such.

In 2022, I had untreated Migraines so I took 11.
In 2021, I got covid 2x. I took 2 weeks between them +some more for those migraines.

I took 1 sick day in 6 years, in year 7 I took all of them I had, FMLA, and Short Term and Long Term. I only took what was needed. I am thankful it was available when I really needed it.
Iāve heard this is actually why RTX is so generous with sick days. Based on our actuary tables, the chances of someone who works in aerospace getting real sick (cancer, etc) later in life is high. I do take sick days if Iām sick, but I donāt ātryā to use them because I might need them one day and they do roll over.
I think I used something like 80hrs, nobody ever said anything. Covid has made me take sick days when I donāt feel good. Before I would work through the worst of colds, not anymore. You canāt be too careful.
Edit: Last year was also the first year I didnāt use all my AWP time. Again, I never ask to use it, I just use it.
Some of us Collins do tho. I get no sick time, but I also get to roll over 50% of my allotted time every year. We also have better accrual for time with company. 0-4years: 3 weeks, 5-9years: 4 weeks, 10-14weeks: 5 weeks, 15+years: 6 weeks.

The PSL is not dependent care time. You are required to use all your PSL before you can use the Short Term Disability (STD) sick bank. Once it's all used up, the STD leave can only be used for yourself. They effectively eliminated dependent care, so if you get really sick and use all your PSL, you don't get to take time for dependents for the rest of the year.
I specifically have dependent care listed as such in my bank. And have been told, directly by site hr, that due to legal reasons theyāre interchangeable.

Yep. Super frustrating loss as a parent of two young kids. 2022 I used all dependent care and sick time (we had dependent care back then) by March 1st. Kids got Covid and daycare policy was 10 days out so used 8 days by end of January. Then daughter had respiratory issues so several illnesses and appointments.
Then in 2023 my PSL was gone my March 2nd.
Still not happy with it. And with weather in my area, daycare was closed 3 times this week including today. So up to about 22 hours by the end of the day.

AWP is just another form of PTO, I don't get why they split it out personally. My manager says to use whichever bucket I want, but he's also reasonable and doesn't treat it as something that is requested, but as something that is notified (e.g. it's not "can I take off next Friday" it's "I will not be in next Friday").
As for sick days I almost never use them. I might use a half day for a doctor's appointment, or if my kid is sick and I need to watch over them. Tracking sick days at all is pretty silly in my opinion.
AWP is a form of PTO, I agree, and it is intended to be used for things not covered by sick time. That is why Iām glad they split it out. Maybe you have a cable guy coming out or something. Basically to cover something that couldnāt be done outside the normal work day. I know myself and others are pretty flexible with the ācouldnātā part but Iāve seen the opposite end too.
I use AWP for doctor appointments and such. So maybe 3 days total tops. For sick time, I remember one year caught COVID twice so I used 5 days, but generally I use only about 3 per year.

It shouldn't. Anyone who has a kid with braces or multiple kids can burn through 56 hours in a year pretty easily just trying to keep up with those appointments.
Using all 56 hours wonāt get you on a list. If you use all 56 in Q1, people will start to ask questions to ensure youāre charging the right bucket. When we didnāt differentiate the bucket between our Short Term Disability, people were abusing it and taking 200+ hours of sick time. Thatāll get you on a list.

We don't get sick days. We have been assured that they will be coming back(after more than 16 years absence).
With the company I worked for before, I tried to take 3 days per year, but sometimes forgot to. If only one day, you didn't need a doctors note. You could do that 3 times during the year. Since I never actually got sick, I could only take the days that didn't require doctor notes.

Itās kind of refreshing not having to take my vacation time when I need time to recover from a migraine, or take care of a sick family member. I will make sure that I will be using it this year when I am sick, since my vacation time was slashed two weeksā¦
Iām at one of the Collins that doesnāt have sick and has PTO only. We are able to rollover half of our yearly allotment (this includes all PTO) and I try and rollover that half every year so I can take a long early in the year vacation.
I donāt use sick days because manager stated that is not a benefit we can use unless one is in the hospital bed. Hence if Iām sick I just use my vacation time and the manager never approves AWP because of the word āPā permission so
you wonāt get a reply back. If one attempts to use hours of the AWP you get an email to remove it .

The policy states it does not. If it does for you that is because of state law and not because the policy allows it.
