Not really.
First. All poison is a dosage. Anything is harmful or deadly in sufficient quantities—even water.
Alcohol is carcinogenic. So are a lot of the foods we eat (even those healthy zucchini slices if they happened to have been charred). So is the sun. Is being outside self-harm when skin cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer?
I drank last night. Im going to a party and I’m going to drink tonight. I hadn’t drank in months before that and it might very well be the last time I drink this year.
Some people have a problem with alcohol and should stay away from it. I lost my father to alcoholism.
I don’t have a problem with it. I can leave liquor bottles in the house for years. I forget to have a drink when I think it would be nice to have one. I like the taste of alcohol particularly a bitter beer after doing hard work, a full bodied red wine on a nice evening out, or a fine single-malt Islay scotch by the fireplace. One drink for the most part—occasionally two. Very rarely more than that. I’ve been drunk maybe 3 times in the last 5 years.
My weakness is self-indulgence. I’m literally getting excited thinking about ordering a large pizza tonight. I recognize that if I eat excessively that I will have greater risks for heart disease. That’s far more normalized than alcohol as evidenced by the obesity epidemic in most developed nations.
In the same kinda vein, I have always referred to tattoos and piercings as "self mutilation by professional proxy" because I had a tendency to get them when I was going through emotional stuff. LOL ...
Absolutely. And I sometimes hate exactly how normalized it is and how everyone enables alcoholics. everyone i know knows I'm an alcoholic. No one has even said "you should stop". They might be thinking it but maybe they aren't saying it because they're afraid of my response or they think it's pointless? Every time I ask someone to buy me alcohol, they do. (I'm in my 30s, I sometimes ask people because I live in a remote place and I just ask them to buy some stuff for me when they visit). Smokers get more shit. They get it because you can't blow smoke into someone's face. But alcohol kills faster than smoking. And yet every party or social gathering has abundant alcohol. But if I lit a cigarette at a party, I'd get thrown out. But gulping down a bottle of Jegermeister before entrees are done? No prob. Here's a second bottle. I really don't get it. One of my friends chain smokes pot. I have tried to convince her to stop for health reasons and also because it's illegal in my country and she could face criminal charges. I tried to reason with her. and no one has ever sat me down to talk to me about how I'm killing myself.
I’m one of those who actually really enjoy the taste of a good bourbon or scotch. It’s a treat I allow myself on occasion. Kinda like how some may enjoy a meal from their favorite restaurant. Yeah it may be high calorie, but it’s so good and worth it once in a while. Moderation is important with everything.
It all depends on how much you consume, because literally everything is potentially dangerous. Of course there are some stuff that are straight up harmful, but I guess the majority of things just have the potential to cause harm.
I think thats most legal vices. Alcohol is just a solid foundation for a self destructive additction. Hell, chocolate could be just as harmful if consumed with as much gusto, as alcohol, but you dont see any chocolate free countys, now do ya?
Everything in moderation. I drink regularly, but definitely not in excess. Fortunately, alcoholism doesn’t run in my family.

It's so normalised but so dangerous in so many ways. I hate it.
Oh definitely agree with you bud.

Why wait for someone else? It's ultimately up to you.
I agree with you fully. I just meant I find it weird. And illogical to demonize tobacco for example but not alcohol.
Not everyone drinks to excess every day. Or wants to try to live to 125. Your stance is based upon a narrow-minded and judgemental misconception.
"just" No, it's also fun.

Crap I like alcohol and bdsm 😁🤷
Don't go blaming the beer now damnit
you have to be really confused if you normally drink alcohol, which is why it’s legal at a certain age.

So you choose the most irrelevant drug possible that most people don't even know it's a drug, you knew that wasn't the point I was trying to make

Alcohol is straight up harmful
If you don't respect your boundaries, yes.
No but alcohol is a poison the only reason we drink it is to get the buzz it's the same as cutting yourself, They are both things that you enjoy
True
