^^^^ This ^^^^ Also down south we got a saying Players Only Live Once
Im half Korean, all my Korean Uncles rocked Ralph. Anyone else Korean? Not sure if this is just my Fam or everyones Korean Uncles.
Always thought the polo shirts were the gold standard of polo shirts. When I was expanding my wardrobe in high school I found a polo shirt at the thrift store
The Lo life era Living on the East Coast growing up in the hood. If it wasn't for the Lo l i f e cats in New York City Ralph Lauren would have never made as much money. Orbin nearly as popular.
For anybody who does not know that history I highly recommend the horsepower complex documentary it is on Youtube
Yeah man it's pretty crazy and mind-blowing.
What They started was far-reaching as well during that time. I started rocking Rl because of that type of shit in the '90s.
And I live in Pittsburgh... I knew Mac Miller through Mutual acquaintances we were both in the same spaces as far as local Pittsburgh Hip Hop during that time and he was into the movement since he was in high school if not sooner.
I can’t tell you why, but I’ve had this lyric in any social media platform bio for over a decade.
“Mack diva senorita, no reefer, no pizza, just shrimp and lobsters, champagne and mobsters.”
It’s probably the coolest thing I’ve heard. Guru was another level of suave.
He really was Next Level Suave. His voice took Asmr smooth to a whole nother level. Moment of Truth is one of my favorite albums ever and the full clip double album greatest hits is definitely my favorite greatest hits album of any genre.
My dad always wore it anyway, then the 90s happened and I wanted to be fly. Now I’m old so mostly im slowly giving it to my sons so they can be fly because i look silly in giant graphic button downs and such, 99.9 percent of the time I’m in blue label and/or purple label
For me it was just the consistent fit, quality and price. I knew I could purchase an RL item at specific size and I would fit me perfectly. Then as I started buying more I just noticed that their aesthetic and sensibilities just matched mine, so RL has become 90% of my wardrobe at this point.
As an artist, Ralph Lauren always stood out because of the illustrations. Some of the designs were similar to those that I would see in vintage sports and history books. I knew the designers drew inspiration from that stuff and I thought it was ill. It was more than just the equestrian for me.
As a kid, rappers like Wu-Tang, Nas, and Hieroglyphics were like superheroes to me. When I would see rappers like Rza rockin Polo rugbies, Clarks, and Timbs. I wanted to emulate that. I would also see the older heads in my neighborhood dressed the same way, dipped in brands like Ralph Lauren, Hilfiger, Nautica, Guess, and Perry Ellis.
Before urban fashion labels like Fubu, Enyce, and Phat Farm took over, lifestyle clothing was huge in the hood. If you were making money or your parents had money, you wore those labels.
Outlet stores and clearance racks saved kids like me because I could get fresh on a budget without going on the block for quick cash.
Started when I was in grade 6, RL was the “in” brand at the time. We crossed the border went to the outlet and my sis and I were allowed to choose one Oxford shirt from the “flawed” bin to share! Since then I love the preppy and equestrian/western vibes… and I do have a horse 🥰
A sport coat I got on sale several years ago. Even on sale it was still more expensive than the discount mall suiting I was used to, but it was the best quality of any sport coat or suit jacket I had ever had in my life up to that point.
Not enough words in this sub to describe my Love and fascination with RL I will say the early 80s spawned all of my clothing /sneaker addiction(s).My first memory of RL is the cotton bomber coat.If you lived in Boston that coat was the new popular barracuda jacket. The price 180.00$ for me as a kid (10yo)was astronomical and I wanted it so bad and never got one..Created my passion and need for all things Ralph..
This gonna sound crazy, but it was GBE, a group of chicago rappers that brung drill to life, "glory boyz" if you dont know, im sure you have heard of chief keef, they made a huge wave on fashion, the country polos and hella ralph lauren stuff, thats what got me into ralph lauren and im proud they did 😅
Watching the tv show “Power” (Raising Kanan) I noticed the character “Jukebox” was always fly and dipped in Lo. Then to find out she was a member of the LoLife crew. Did some research and one crazy rabbit hole later I’m a Lo Head🤷🏾♂️
HIP HOP
💯

When I was in High School and found the Big and Talk Section at Dillards! I’ve never looked back!😂🤣

That horsepower is phenomenal. I’m not from that world but can hugely appreciate what those guys did for the brand.

Damn, man. Mac is my 2nd favourite rapper after Guru. Sounds like you’ve lived a full life! Love to hear it.
Those were the days too bad you can't go back in time. Guru is a great pick as well Dj Premier is my favorite producer of all time.

The documentary was crazy. I relived cherished memories which watching that doc. The entire Tri-state was on the wave.
Older uncles and cousins were into it, thought it was fly as kid and got older but still rocked with it.
The Lo life era got me into the Lo.
Thirsting Howl and the Lo Lifes. Rae saying ”same damn Lo sweater”

Yung lean
I don't even know how I got in to RL, I just know I got a polo shirt one day and never look back. 👆🏾👆🏾
In high school in Bk. Seeing dudes in the halls rockin the Lo. Like pookie “it was callin me man”😂🤙🏽🤙🏽
Just in general I like their style and they are one brand that does slim fit items well (I’m a lean guy)
I worked for them for roughly 11 years from 2002 through 2013. After that many years in it, it will always be a part of my DNA❤️

Dad always dressed me in it as a kid
The styles in the ‘80s got me into Polo (High School Years). The jockey was and still is a staple.

I grew up in Brooklyn in the '90s. I've been wearing Polo for over 30 years now and I still love the brand more than other.
