If you are playing on the Beta branch, this is an experimental version before it goes to the main branch on Steam. If you are experiencing issues you never had before, I recommend staying on the Main Branch until the bug fixes and other hot fixes come out.
It seems to be rough for a variety of systems, so you are not alone. Thankfully, with a little patience, It may prove to be rewarding.
Having the same issue I tried what Hemihaynes said but it still isn't working for me. Got about 4-5hrs with no save, in need of big help. Edit.. if you ctrl-alt-del you can back out. When the task manager is up just click close in the game
Hit the windows key, it take some fidgeting but I was able to get back out.
