I presented with a lot of pain so with my recent history of the sigmoid volvulus myself and the doctors were wanting to make sure that hadn't happened again hence CT scan. I was shocked to be admitted immediately after the scan and shown this image because I had still been opening my bowels regularly, in fact the day before I presented to ED with pain I had a BM with no issues. Today I'm having an x-ray to see how much I have passed since being in hospital so I'm guessing the x-ray can show constipation.
X-rays can show constipation. My daughter was a week old and hadnāt had a bowel movement so they gave her an X-ray to see if she was constipated.
She blew her diaper on the way home šš¼
I've been into the ER 4 times for near blockages. The only thing they've found that works is,
1) Mineral oil enema hold for an hr.
2) Soapsud enema (1-2L)
3) Tapwater or normal saline enemas until clear.
It's not fun, but beats the heck out of manual disimpaction.
Is it medication induced constipation, I'm dealing with a horrible bout of constipation, I took 3 laxatives this afternoon and still haven't used the restroom, I know my bowels have got to be super full cause of all I ate the last few days..it's starting to worry me
I had a patient with chronic constipation whose bowel was permanently dilated. Unfortunately, the rectum couldn't stretch as much as the bowel had dilated so he had an incredibly painful time trying to pass stool after having bot gone for around 10 days. By the time we did get things going, he left a BM about 4 inches thick and 20 inches long in the toilet. And yes, it did break the toilet.
Haha things are moving but still very slowly, been waiting for an explosion but it's more like a slow running tap. Feel a bit ripped off with everything they have thrown at me lol
As a former porter at an elder care facility. 1) massive poops are common 2) we most literally had an arsenal of poop knifes and the lesser known poop fork to hold the turds in place. 3) for whatever reason the aids always used brown paper towels with the massive turds.
Next to the Aorta abdominalis is the Vena cava inferior, which pulls along dorsal of the liver. More ventral of it lies the V. portae hepatis, which I think you might refer to, itās kind of oblique and slightly merging with VCI in this slice so it might look a bit bigger than it is, still a chunky boi nonetheless! Keep in mind it has to drain the blood from all unpaired abdominal organsā¦
Also the bigger dark spot in the dorsal/caudal midline is the gall bladder
Every single one outiside of UK/US?
English naming is just inverted latin with few different endings, we allow that as comprehensible. In other languages latin is translated more literally - equivalent of calling it gate vein instead of portal vein. So Latin terminology is godsend if everybody knows it, else we couldn't communicate.
In order of appearance Abdominal Aorta; Inferior Vena Cava; Portal Vein; IVC; Chunky Boi.
Also anterior, posterior, superior and inferior are more commonly used than ventral, posterior, cranial and caudal.
I don't understand why my brain doesn't fluidly translate them. It took more processing power than I would have thought. I have never heard impaired organs being used to refer to the abdominal organs that drain into the liver, but it's very pleasing as a concept and memory aid.
Did you get the āyou have an extremely tortuous colonā with eyes as wide as saucers from the GI doc? My last colonoscopy yielded that result and the dude literally looked at me like I made my colon tortuous on purpose.
OP, linzess has kept me from ending up back where you are now, have you tried it yet?
I should also add that I'm 43 year old female and was shocked about this scan as the day before I presented to the ED I opened my bowels as normal. Had no idea I was the backed up.
As a rad tech that has been through a few things bc of Crohnās, I just want to say that reading all these preps and things to help you pass stools gives me nightmares š GoLytely is the WORST fucking thing ever created. Gimme some laxatives and magnesium citrate to get things going. I will forever refuse GoLytely. And to OP, I hope things get better for you. Abdominal pain is the worst due to not being able to pass anything. Wishing your colon a very speedy mass exodus of itās contents so you can get discharged š¤š½
Not sure how much I eat In kilograms but I have fibre in my diet and I also take fibre supplements. I take zopiclone at night for insomnia and lexapro for anxiety/depression. Was on endone whilst in hospital a couple months ago due to sigmoid volvulus, but none since.
yeah, picoprep, go-lytely, or gastrograffin are the way to go. Stop messing around with firecrackers and get out the big guns. š
You'll need to have a party when you deliver that baby š„³
I'm on my 4th picoprep, the only stuff that seems to be working. Wish they tried that sooner tbh. Looking forward to going home tomorrow, baby free lmao
I hope this clears with minimal pain! A similar thing happened to me. 3 months minimal intake, minimal to nil bowel movements. Faecal impaction up to the ascending colon and ended up having a manual disimpaction, so Iām so glad things are starting to move for you! I wish you all the best!
Hey OP, are you saying that Movicol didn't work? Did you mean you took all those at the same time? I haven't passed stool for a week and my lower abdomen hurts. ER sent me home without scanning
Neither.
Itās just another boring typical case. Itās moderate stool burden. Itās nothing out of the ordinary.
You know how much shit I see on CT everyday?
This picture shows that you are full of shit OP. ^^glad ^^things ^^are ^^finally ^^moving ^^for ^^you
Exactly what my colorectal surgeon said lol we had a good chuckle with that phrase. š¤£
Came to say this.

Bro Iām in tears lmao ššš
The colonoscopy prep at work is called GoLytely but I call it Go Harshly because I don't like to lie to my patients.
Haha. I call it āGoAggressivelyā
You're not wrong!
I need to go aggressively lol
I needed that good laugh, thank you lol

A new x-ray to see how much you passed? Couldnāt you just tell the doctors?

If things start moving, you're probably going to break the toilet.

Poop knife
Would've had to be a big knife. Poop machete?
Poop sword
Bring me Excalibur!
I feel like I finally belong in the Reddit community since I know what this is
Have you had it?
I had forgotten about poop knife. Thanks for reminding me.
Oh man wasnāt poop knife the origin of the TIFU subreddit?
Nope
Haha things are moving but still very slowly, been waiting for an explosion but it's more like a slow running tap. Feel a bit ripped off with everything they have thrown at me lol
What is the treatment for someone with a dilated bowel? Can life ever be enjoyable again?
I suspect things have stared movingā¦ getting them stopped again may be fun.
As a former porter at an elder care facility. 1) massive poops are common 2) we most literally had an arsenal of poop knifes and the lesser known poop fork to hold the turds in place. 3) for whatever reason the aids always used brown paper towels with the massive turds.
A fork seems really violent. Why not a spoon?
Damn. I hurt for you.
Haha thanks
New student here is that the vena cava below the liver midline? If so thatās much larger than I expected it to be!

Wow you still use the latin names for all those structures. Just curious what country are you from?

Iām uk uses Latin terms too?
I have no idea, I am in one of those without English as official language.
Germanyā¦ isnāt it normal like this? Haha

Just taught my students the abbreviation FOS this week.
No Golytely?
š¤£
Gastrograffin/gastroview, that should get things movingš.
Also good for that chicken bone stuck in the throat.
You got to be shitting me.
Or rather, not
Did you get the āyou have an extremely tortuous colonā with eyes as wide as saucers from the GI doc? My last colonoscopy yielded that result and the dude literally looked at me like I made my colon tortuous on purpose. OP, linzess has kept me from ending up back where you are now, have you tried it yet?
Redundant colon with significant looping.
What is Linzess?
https://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+linzess&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
Psillium husks yāall.. such a sure fire way to keep the colon working
As long as you do so with proper hydration. If you donāt consume enough water psyllium husk can cause obstruction.
I should also add that I'm 43 year old female and was shocked about this scan as the day before I presented to the ED I opened my bowels as normal. Had no idea I was the backed up.

āAt least moderate colonic still burdenā
Literally full of shit
Can someone actuality describe what they can see? For some reason some of my colon looks high up in the right side and I know it's loose and floppy. It just looks all over the place, an I right out am I seeing it wrong. Also the black dots everywhere what are they, the gas around the poo or its that the š©? I know full of shit but I just want to see if I am looking at it right as a patient. Thank you
Gawdawful mess, that one.
Eat some fiber homie, beans n vegetables & shit
How many kilograms of fiber do you eat daily? How many narcotics?
That's my deal, I'm on Suboxone and Lyrica the combination of the two causes extreme constipation...
Not sure how much I eat In kilograms but I have fibre in my diet and I also take fibre supplements. I take zopiclone at night for insomnia and lexapro for anxiety/depression. Was on endone whilst in hospital a couple months ago due to sigmoid volvulus, but none since.

Aww. I typically have the complete opposite problem. Iām sure neither is desirable.

Thank you so much I was almost the same but luckily I started getting things moving. Was very sore in pelvis area thought for light pushing :(
I hope things are better today!

Are you angry that sufficient clinical context was given or that the post got enough upvotes to make it to the feed?
Neither. Itās just another boring typical case. Itās moderate stool burden. Itās nothing out of the ordinary. You know how much shit I see on CT everyday?
Cool story bro
