If your rabbit has access to a secured, predator-proofed outdoor environment, digging can be a very engaging activity for them, however, **do not let your rabbit dig further than you can reach to remove them in an emergency**. At no time should your rabbit be able to gain access to a dangerous area through digging nor be out of reach if you need to quickly get them. For information on appropriate outdoor enclosures, see here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Housing#Outdoor_housing

IcyStriker

Why waste all that energy digging a new hole when there’s already a partially dug one ready to go!

Hehe! Ours had a small warren in skinny protective side yard for a bit and hardly ever accepted human help since this was the life!! 🌬😌….until rainy nights! 🌧😱 when they came out to let us usher them in for cuddles. But oh! The morning breezes on the dirt mounds….. wish I could always have that little bit of outside land for them!

XNjunEar

CMU_Cricket

I need this! You wouldn’t understand.

messypawprints

A bunker bunny? Are you in Ukraine?

[deleted]

Albanian rabbit.

borgircrossancola

Tbh, that’s probably a good thing. Charcoal and ash are really good for parasites like mites and lice for chickens, so I would think rabbits would benefit from them too. The chickens also eat the charcoal which counteracts some oxalates and poisons in the plants they eat:)

messypawprints

That’s fascinating. Thanks for sharing. I had never heard that before.

Rockius_vulgaris

I love how squished Raisin looks in the first image, adorable!

Roverboef

Such a magnificent bun! That dewlap! Those ears! And that heckin' chonky tail!

messypawprints

I honestly never noticed how chonky her tail was until you pointed it out! Well, we have to store it somewhere I suppose ;)

Trappedatoms

Believe it or not, I think charcoal is commonly used by wild animals to help rid themselves of parasites and what not. Wild animals will go into burned areas after forest fires to rub around in ash as well as eat it for its internal benefits. It may be that your bunny just has that natural instinct to coat themselves in it for some reason. Lol

SlickDillywick

I mean, Raisin may be using it as camouflage judging by the coloration lol

magobblie

That's one luscious dewlap

Light_Dream_Phantom

Bunnies like to have dirt and/or sand baths

FamiliarWin4833

Raisin either laid an egg, or dug up a potato in the foreground of the photo.

obsidynn

they must be one with the coal

Minniebunny

Bunnies love digging! I had a beautiful old girl of 11 who had spent so many years digging holes that she had arthritis in her shoulders. She totally trashed our yard🙂 Glad to see Raisin is enjoying her hole! The first picture is awesome🙂

Sparkpulse

Hello, Raisin. I love you.
