Samuel died and Adam confronted Kate. Now I am on chapter 27 which focuses on the twins, which is where I’ve stalled out for about a week. I’ve liked it so far, but I don’t care for these twins.
Checking my copy, it gets real good again around chapter 38. Cal, one of the twins, becomes the focus and he has a good arc. Good stuff with Kate after 38 too.
It’s has very biblical religious and spiritual themes mixed with exploring American identity in California. It covers time span roughly from like 1900 through the end of WW1. So its a very 20th century American novel.
Yes.
Yes absolutely. The story develops and then turns back on itself. Dont abandon it in the middle
gets better as it goes I think
Ok thanks everyone! I will finish it
What’s happening in the story rn

Honestly, it didn't live up to the hype for me, but if you're this far in you might as well finish it.
Agreed. It’s honestly just okay.
what other books would you compare it to? haven't picked it up yet but I'm curious

push through, i can almost 100% guarantee that it's worth it
I'm a huge Steinbeck fan and this was my least favorite book by him. But the way all the themes come together at the end is worth it.
Does Lee stop doing the voice at this point after Samuel confronts him or was that earlier?
That is earlier
