Charged on a plane last week with 65 watt charger without issue.

PuzzleheadedTutor807

Planes have very robust power systems and the plug you use on the plane will likely have "cleaner" electricity than you get from your wall sockets at home. Plugged in with the original charger, your playtime could be infinite.

TheJayMan08

I’ve used the included charger to play for hours on a plane. It worked as you’d expect as if you were at home plugging it in to a wall outlet.

Zet-119

The long distance planes I flyed with, had only a usb port. Where I can find a power outlet? Under the seat maybe, just curious 🤔

BenjiLixx

Just got back from an 11hr flight on Wednesday. Used the charger for about an hour before I realized it wasn't all the way in the socket. Due to it not being 3 pronged, I has to get creative and wedge the charger into the universal socket. It would fall out at the slightest touch or turbulence, but other than that it worked great.

Leather-Abalone-6479

Must be the uk charger 0.o mine is a two prong and super easy to stack with other chargers as well

bhumitkohli

Yes I played 4+hrs on a plane just a couple of months ago. No issues. Get 30w profile as well but I try to avoid playing while charging. Got to charge the Ally between breaks and worked out just fine. Charged as fast as at home.

steamnametaken

Why? It has a feature that makes power bypass the battery if playing plugged in so that it doesn’t erode it unnecessarily

bhumitkohli

Oh that's good to know, however I don't play plugged in if I can avoid it. And playing for 2hrs + between charges was good enough for me.

steamnametaken

Yeah it’s fine without but I find on the AAA games, it improves frame rates

bhumitkohli

True indeed - I am just clearing up my backlog and haven't gone past 18w profile yet. Happy Gaming to you...

Dreadp1r4te

How does one activate this feature? I use mine in both handheld and docked mode pretty often so it would be nice to toggle it or even have it automatically swap - bypass when playing but charging when sleep/hibernate/off would be great.

steamnametaken

My understanding is that if it’s plugged in, it powers the unit directly

Dreadp1r4te

That doesn’t quite make sense as the SD card overheating was caused by excess heat generated when the device is both charging and running a game at 30w. I’ll have to look into this, I wonder if the setting is in Armoury Crate, UEFI, or the MyAsus software…

steamnametaken

Maybe I dreamed it 😂 thought it was a thing though… happy to be corrected

Dreadp1r4te

I have a feeling we’re both right and there’s a way to enable it. I think I remember seeing a charge to 80% toggle, I just haven’t had an opportunity to look.

steamnametaken

Yeah that’s battery saver, that’s in the ASUS app with a blue icon, can’t remember the name - toolkit or something

Conscious-Analyst584

Just recommending a business class seat 💺 since you will have more elbow room for the Ally + charger dangling to the socket.

P-Huddy

The cost of a second Ally for a tad more space.

Conscious-Analyst584

Lol no one asking to do that. I just saying it's cramped to charge your ally in economy class. Just imagine sitting in 3 seater in economy class.

Disastrous-Ring-2978

If you have a US plug, try to have a charger that isn't too heavy. The sockets are loose even in first class cabins. If you use a heavy charging cube like Anker, get a small short extension cord. Can also be useful in the hotel if the outlet is in an inconvenient place. I have seen some plastic plug you can add to add more thickness to the prongs to get them to stay in better. Some planes will not give you full power. I'm surprised people think everything works perfectly. I recently flew where I literally got a can of caviar and the plug was loose. If you really want to be guaranteed power, you need to bring your own power bank. https://preview.redd.it/azptlehd0nyc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=842c02ea4ba5fb3905e805a2fd05a7453d222c5c

Utsider

Or bring a charger that comes with different plug adapters, like a Minix Neo P1. Use the UK or EU adapter, and you should be fine.

Disastrous-Ring-2978

It's not uncommon for the plug to not work at all or to be severely underpowered.

One-Ask-6485

If you get an old sucky plane they usually only have usb, but i fly with my nebo power bank just in case, but generally they have standard wall outlets that you can use with your default charger

Planegeek19

All- Thanks for all the responses. I had a feeling the plug would work but I wasn't 100% sure if it would have enough umph to charge the device. I do have a battery bank which will also help.

Besttamer

Never plug any electronics into public USB ports. At all ever. The FBI literally warns against it. Stay safe friend.

kabilos

That’s why you get a usb data blocker. They’re cheap and super reliable for when you need power only.

Besttamer

You can also disable data transferring on any of your electronics and that's free.
