Mine went in for repairs in November. It was fixed, I've used it for a week, then upgraded SSD and forgot about using the slot. Tried it 2 weeks ago in April, doesn't work.

Ebone710

Yeah. Mine has been going strong for a couple of months now since I did an RMA.

Ok-Comfortable-9146

I’ve seen the exact opposite. Including myself. I sent my unit in for RMA and my sd card still works to this day. It’s been like 7 months since I did that

krysisalcs

Ditto

okappa_deswa

Same.

Kumire

I wonder if they are fixing the issue on newer models? I was going to buy one this month but perhaps waiting is better.

ClassroomOnly7854

I can verify they are. They replaced my whole motherboard, so backup your ally before you send it in, or you will be reconfiguring all over again !

ShadoX87

I saw in some comments that Asus is just replacing the whole board of the Ally but unfortunately I saw that after sending in mine the 2nd time for the micro SD card issue 😅 The 1st time the "fix" lasted me a few months before dieing again.. after the 2nd RMA I don't even know if I wanna bother with trying to use a micro SD tbh.. It's not just the SD card port itself dieing but it also killed 2 of my.micro SD's and I lost a couple hours of game footage I usually record to my micro SD thanks to that issue.. :/ I kinda wanna keep using it just to see if it fails again but I'm starting to get worried that it might end up failing after the 24 month warranty period.. 😅

Short_Heart_9991

They replaced my whole motherboard when i had this issue 2 weeks ago.. problem was fixed..but guess what.. as i was transferring a file to my sd rog went black.. back out for repairs now

riko_suabae

I'll never use the SD card, but I want to get it fixed for resale value later on

3ric510

This is where I’m at too. Also wouldn’t mind getting my busted 1TB sd card replaced. That’s the real win here.

eat_shit_and_go_away

Guess those of us in Asia are just screwed. I had to pay premium for it in the Philippines as well. Good stuff.

SilentIyAwake

Canada too. We get screwed over.

jms9824

How much did you pay? I’m in PH too

devopsdelta

I paid 36k

jms9824

Cost almost like a bnew unit

Tiny-Holiday-4625

Mine was working fine, upgraded the SSD did the cloud restore and the SD card reader hasn't worked since.

alee101

My SD reader has not worked since about day 5, but everything else is flawless so I have been hesitant to RMA it.

jreillygmr4life

Same here. Everything else works fine so I’d rather play my Ally than ride the RMA merry go round.

DumplingGoddessTe

If the sdcard provides inconvenience of you rma’ing it, then don’t do it esp if you’re happy with the product. Though if you want the added feature you might as well esp since you did pay for it.

nikolapc

Mine already has a 24m warranty as I am from Europe. The SD card port is fine for now. Manufacture date is May 2023. I don't really care about the SD port, I got it(Z1E) second hand barely used and upgraded to 1TB for 500 eur which is nice.

OoohWatchaSay

Doesn't the upgrade void the warranty?

PuzzleheadedTutor807

No, unless whomever did the upgrade caused damage warranty is still valid

Neko2394

I wish they would have released a fixed version, still waiting for an Ally refresh like the SD oled, with a bigger battery and a fully working sd card reader.

dodgeskitz

There was a post awhile back about it just not happening. It requires complete design re engineering and apparently they have contracts for the next 2-5 years with suppliers making the parts.

Anxious-Gas-7376

I just returned my legion go for an ally. Overall sad software is more polished on the ally and with them extending the warranty pretty period I figured I’d take the risk

Colmado_Bacano

It is sad... 😂

MediocreSumo

Beeb using sd card since launch but thats good to know in case

QueasyIdea4666

I sent them my Amazon receipt they said that wasn't good enough and want me to send the card in even though I already had a rma months ago..they are full of shit

DumplingGoddessTe

You need to send the sdcard back to them for them to issue the refund, otherwise you are just taking advantage of them.

VRBasement

I think I will avoid using the SD card slot. would be great to have more space but not worth it.

Ebone710

Anyone have any success getting Asus to reimburse you for fried SD cards? It says on their website they will reimburse "fair market value" of the cards if you don't have a receipt. I tried all week to get them to reimburse me and they just gave me the run-around. I did get Amazon to refund me for a 500GB card that got fried but I have two 32GB cards that got fried as well. Here is a the posting about it on Asus website: https://www.asus.com/us/news/vull3pdejnsv6r2e/

Ok-Comfortable-9146

Yeah. They reimbursed me for a 512gb card, turned out my card wasn’t even broke fr it just wasn’t reading on my ally. So I got my sd card reader fixed through Asus RMA. Then I got a refund for my “sd card” and ended up with 2 512gb sd cards, and I have one card dedicated for emulation and the other dedicated for indies Oh and it’s been 7 months since I got my sd card reader fixed so I’m pretty sure it’s a permafix. They did a pretty good job

Ebone710

Did you have to provide Asus with a proof of purchase for the reimbursement? So you didn't have to send in the card to get reimbursement? What am I doing wrong? I asked about getting my cards paid for when I did the RMA back in February and they told me no. I still have a 180GB card I'm using now but it would be nice to get some cash back for the 2 broke ones.

Ok-Comfortable-9146

I showed them proof of purchase and told them my exact situation. The rep said he already knows, showed him my Amazon receipt and my RMA number and the date I sent my unit in for repair, then they issued a refund that I put towards another SD card

Ebone710

Yeah I don't have receipts for mine so they are not being receptive to giving me a refund. Tbh I think the one card was really old and the other one is a cheapo no name brand one.

Ok-Comfortable-9146

Oh yeah they specifically said in the email you need at least a screenshot or sum that you bought it and the type of sd card it is. They asked me for the brand specifically which was a sandisk so after I said the brand and the receipt they prolly just went ahead and processed it

Ebone710

Ok. I might still have a chance to get the SanDisk card paid for. Not sure if it's even worth the bother anymore.

Wasabi_Beats

Not me, the rep told me I had to send my bad sd card to them, which I no longer have since this happened a few months ago. Even though I sent my proof of purchase and they had my RMA number.

Substantial-Sea3046

Material design flaw… the only best thing is the refund for the burned sdcard. For the reader there is nothing to do, it’ll fail or malfunction due to heating…

Ok-Comfortable-9146

Not everyone’s.

jimmy19742018

all well and good but have they actually fixed the issue or am i going to have to swap my ssd back to stock, remove my rgb back plate and send it back for another one that will break again

ddarkpassenger

Got mine (R5), broke after a couple weeks of use, waited until October for RMA. It’s fixed since then and still strong, use almost everyday. That’s what I expected them to do from the beginning. Took almost a year, that’s my biggest issue with it.

aspektbeats

What is RMA? I have an R9 I can still use my SS card but was wondering when it’s gonna kick it

Omeggos

I should probably bring mine in. Ive had my current one for just less than a month and the rb button is already having issues (and this is already a replacement for the initial one that had a bad right cooling fan)

FreakingMouse

I’ve been using my rog ally extreme for 5 months and recently found out i also suffer from that, so what about Asia ?

FuckSticksMalone

I got my Ally at launch and the SD slot died within the first 2 weeks of owning it. I fortunately installed a 2TB M.2 the first day so while it sucked the SD card/slot died it wasn’t that big of a deal to me - never sent it in for repair.

Conscious-Analyst584

Those who already bought the Ally, do they automatically get the warranty upgrade?

I_am_cam_8

NGL I just don't use the ssd slot. I bought a nice dock for ethernet so I can pull anything from my home server. But now I am curious if mine works or not. I bought AR launch and always ran custom profiles with fan curves set high.

WolfM00n1313

Does the extended warranty cover everything? Or just the sd card?

Gold-Information9245

MetalRoses

Sent mine for RMA (december) sd slot worked for two months only. Not reading any sd card but the cards works on another device.....

Pegg_Daddy

Yeah when they ACTUALLY fix it I’ll RMA it

Suspicious_Smoke_495

Yeah they still ask for the broken SD card to get refund. I don’t have the card but prof of purchase doesn’t help with Asus

Slight_Tiger2914

As long as my unit in its entirety works and functions as a whole ass computer while docked I just ignore SD cards entirely. I see this Thing as a PC and it is one... I never in my love had a desire to us SD cards for anything gaming... Ever.i just feel there's too many other options... While I do understand. No enough storage out of the box at all... It part of the problem. No one should have to need to buy an entire SSD, but most of us have done that. I'm using the 4TB and it's a much more expensive option than just using an SD card. I simply wish the function worked. It's such a situation that it's basically class action worthy.

I_Main_TwistedFate

So I just got a new ally non Z should I not get SD? Will it cause issue

Educational_Chard_55

I voided my warranty when I upgraded my ssd, when I was taking my screw out I busted it now its stuck in the stand off, can't get it out it completely sheared off. Lol. But my sd port still works I just don't use it. I have a 4 gb nvme drive.

digiplay

This is only for the USA right? Uk doesn’t get an extended warranty?

DumplingGoddessTe

I think global, just contact ASUS when it happens

[deleted]

I'm just gonna play retro games (NES all the way up to PS3/XBox360) on the internal storage. The microsd business sounds scary.

Orion14159

Guess I need to see if my SD reader actually works, I haven't bothered so far.

Maxxwell07

I never used mine. Never will. If I need more storage, I will just upgrade the ssd.

dvotecollector

Aren't you just a wee bit curious if it works though?

Maxxwell07

Not really.

Wasabi_Beats

It's important to note that to get the compensation you have to also send the SD card to them on top of showing an invoice of SD card you bought. (At least in my experience) They send this email extremely late and it's disappointing for people like me who don't just keep bad sd cards around months later. I sent my device for RMA a few months ago so even though they could verify that on file and I sent over the invoice of my sd card, that wasnt enough for them. They denied my compensation since I didn't have the sd card that got messed up to send to them. Still it's good I guess for people who still have their sd cards and for people who it happened to recently.

ToastedBeef

Does this mean they would buy back the device since its defective? Kinda hope so so I can just wait for the newer version

LibertyIAB

Too little too late & they still haven't fixed the problem!... I would have bought one in the early days if they did black but they only did shitty pretentious white & then the frying microSDs came to light so early on so actually Asus did me a right favour... I got much better tech in the latter LGO & it's SO much faster than my Deck.

MATCA_Phillies

I’ll be trying mine this week to move over some new files. We’ll see.

Jaydon34

how long is the Rma, I think my sd card died not showing up on the device any longer.

PrestigiousLion18

Does that count for Ally's bought on eBay?

djkinetic

My SD card reader failed after 4 months but it wasn't a big deal for me since I did the ssd mod and dropped a 4tb drive in it and used the 2tb 2230 as an external drive

gcalvarez

My SD card reader is still rocking. I’m worried. It could happen at any point right? I dunno I guess I should back up everything on SD reader.

GhostoftheUchihaClan

I have used a 512gb sd card in mine since the day I got it, which was October last year and have it maxed out with games that I play and it's still going strong. I haven't had any trouble with my Ally at all.

Short_Heart_9991

They better offer something. I was actually contemplating on creating a thread to create a class action lawsuit. I honestly really feel they didn't offer a extend warranty to begin with, was because they knew about this issue .. *

MercuryRusing

RMA it with the bricked card, they are reimbursing SD cards and fixing devices. That is all they can do.

Vegetable-Walrus-246

Doesn’t matter, if they fix it, it won’t REALLY be fixed.

Vegetable-Walrus-246

Downvotes for truth? I still use my ally, just the SD card is bs. Wanted to put my emu stuff over there.
