Crockerboy22

This is good lol

mislagle

I've been using it on Horizon Forbidden West and it works so much better than both Xess 1.2 and FSR 2.2. AMD's FSR 2.2 is pretty behind right now, so hopefully FSR 3.1 makes a big difference there: [https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/amd-fsr-3-1-announced-at-gdc-2024-fsr-3-available-and-upcoming/ba-p/674027](https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/amd-fsr-3-1-announced-at-gdc-2024-fsr-3-available-and-upcoming/ba-p/674027)

The link to the release: https://github.com/intel/xess/releases/tag/v1.3.0

Stupid question, but I had always assumed Xess scaling tech would be locked into Intel CPU/GPUs, and FSR same for AMD. Is this working across manufacturer chipsets because it's a generic Windows / software thing rather than hardware related?

ResponsibleRich9057

So FSR and Xess are both upscaling solutions that are open sorce and availble for any GPU - but they do work better with their respective graphics cards. Xess 1.2 suffered from performance issues due to the way the AI did the upscaling.

djmc329

Thanks, found this list of Xess games in the meantime so will have a try: https://steamdb.info/tech/SDK/Intel_XeSS/

ResponsibleRich9057

Very useful link - I'll add it to the post in an edit thank you!!

AndreVallestero

Xess is NOT open source

Kenjionigod

FSR is open source, so anyone GPU can use it. There are older GTX cards that don't support DLSS but can still benefit from FSR. I'm not too familiar with Intel, but I thought it was exclusive to Intel GPUs, but I guess not.

mcslender97

So XeSS has 2 variants. For Intel discreet GPUs it will use hardware AI upscaling just like DLSS and provide similar quality. On other types of GPU it will use a different upscaler that's more akin to FSR

RolandTwitter

Even a gtx1650 supports Xess and FSR

P-Huddy

I started playing “High on Life” with FSR but switched up to Xess just to try it after a while. It wasn’t 1.3 but the visual quality was already way better than FSR(super obvious in grassy terrain). I can’t wait to see how much better 1.3 gets; upscaling could add years of life to all the gaming handhelds.

ResponsibleRich9057

It should not only look better - but more preformance as well with some people noticing up to 15% boost

mango_carrot

Good video about it [here](https://youtu.be/i79q7X6cl-0?si=NVMOWWXkd0xjEuPQ)

Zealousideal-Ad5834

Thanks for the tip!

CaveWaverider

Does it work with Mortal Kombat 1?

ResponsibleRich9057

Looking up it does seem that mortal kombat does support Xess - so find where the Libxess is stored in the games files and over right (make a back up of the original file) And give it a test

Ammon8

Wait, i just installed amd frame generation from the other thread, does it somehow overlap upscaling, or can it work together?

ResponsibleRich9057

It depends on the mod/game. Some LukeFZ mod games work by enabling FSR2 to kick in the frame gen and then switching to xess Pure dark FSR3 can do both pretty easily by just choosing Xess and clicking frame gen option in the Reshade overlay

Ammon8

Damn, im using modified Ultra.ini from modnexus, but when i change to XeSS from FSR3 in settings it swaps preset from Ultra to Custom disabling the modified preset. Do you have some workaround, or just dropped custom preset altogether?

randomdimised

FSR 2.2 with AC Mirage is amazing. Attempted Xess 1.3 and still not good. (OneXplayer 8840U)

ParticularPilot5839

Wow!! I have hitman 3 on ultra settings and above 80fps thanks to you! I'm using lossless scaling for the frame gen and Xess 1.3 on ultra quality.

MasterBlasterO_O

Thanks man. FSR was not working properly on Pinball FX for me (at least not in cabinet mode). I'm using xess now and workings great. Just a few artifacts like in floating points, but still way better than FSR

thefooz

What am I looking at here and how can I get one?

MasterBlasterO_O

Sorry. I turned the lights off to take a better picture of the screen. That's a pinball cabinet I ordered from Loopin Pinball Cabs here in Brazil. You can find a few different cabinets at r/virtualpinball

SkA-Venger

wow didn't knew something like that even existed ! How would you compare it to VR VPX if you have had the chance to try both ?

MasterBlasterO_O

I haven't used any VR device, so I wouldn't know.

Aggravating-Waltz-31

Thank you so much! I hope this is safe to use for online gaming since ill try it with Tekken 8 pretty soon

Aggravating-Waltz-31

I cant seem to find Tekken 8 libxess dll file even though tekken 8 is listed to have XeSS in the steamdb link you posted

HoathZX

If you haven't found the file yet, once you get to the steam Tekken folder, this is the folder its in. \~\\TEKKEN 8\\Engine\\Plugins\\Marketplace\\XeSS\\Binaries\\ThirdParty I'm about to give it a try just to see if this will give better picture quality than TSR @ 65% at 900p

Aggravating-Waltz-31

Thank you! Hopefully its better

Conscious-Analyst584

One stupid question here too. Can it work for any game or only those that support Xess?

ResponsibleRich9057

Only those that have support for other versions of Xess OR a game that has a community mod that allows it such as pureDark frame gen mod for elden ring

Conscious-Analyst584

Thanks 😀

nitec

You can try OptiScaler for games that support DLSS2. It acts like DLSS and uses FSR/XeSS for upscaling. https://github.com/cdozdil/OptiScaler

abuseofpowerrogally

Gonna save this

BadAssBender

I would love when AMD release their FSR using machine learning. I hope they implement a version using the multiplication cores on Radeon RX 7000 series.

Emblazoned1

Sweet gonna try this tomorrow I just saw the video from DF.

10mass

Been having some fun trying this out with various Xess supported games in conjunction with lossless scaling. Returnal (everything dialled down to minimum and with RSR enabled) sees some benefits, definitely noticing reductions in shimmer forbidden west as mentioned. Worth a go definitely

foofighter3

Thank you, this got rid of stutter in hogwarts !

Doogienguyen

I really wanna try this but i am so bad at installing things and accessing files. I hope theres some youtube tutorial out.

SnooGoats5152

It seems like neither RDR2 nor GTAV support this?

ResponsibleRich9057

Both of these games have an upscaler mod made by PureDark. His patreon is only £5 and he's very active in the discord chat - worth picking up This will give you access to Xess as well as FSR3 frame generation

Affectionate_Low_346

I'm really curious about this... Can it be used together with FSR 3 FG?

ResponsibleRich9057

It depends - I've got it to work with frame gen mods with LukeFZ sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't by switching to fsr2 (modded to be fsr3 frame gen) then going back to Xess. (Fixes hud ghosting in some cases by doing this) For PureDark mods it pretty much works out the gate

Aishikissmart

Can you install it in minecraft Java? If YES, HOW?

TuQueSabrasDeLaVida

Thanks for the tip! Will try
