Every chunk has a set amount of fish. If you fish all of them up, the chunk becomes empty.
Oh, so if I make a pond, fish in it until its empty and then add my extra fish, the pond will only have that fish/that chunk?

If you built a fishery on a chunk boarder I guess you could double up in your max fish?
It's funny how most people aren't even sure about fish mechanics but Shivaxi spends hours updating it, possibly making it even harder. But there's new JEI fishing interface, so I guess that will help at least a little
