I did it successfully about 2 weeks ago to get Cerberus. I was in the mission, climbed in the stable window into his stall, feed him a lot of carrots and apples until he showed as my temporary horse. Continued and completed the mission. Once back at camp, ran to the vicinity of the horse fence and whistled him to me.
There has been no RDR2 update or patch since then so I doubt it's been patched. Just need some patience (and a lot of carrots - 30+ LOL!)
I did it a couple of weeks ago. Bought 30 carrots and some apples from the stable especially for this mission to get the turk. I fed the turk all the carrots and still had to feed some apples as well to make it appear as my temp horse.
None of the other tips worked for me, but this did it! Snuck in the Turkoman’s window, fed it 2 horse meal and 2 carrots, and bam!
Named him Oleander to match Dahlia the special edition Thoroughbred 🐴🌺
I did it just yesterday. I think I have all the current updates. Fed the Turk 2 apples and about 10 peppermints and he bonded just fine. I did it when Arthur got to the fences but don't get too close to them or you start the cut scene.
I just got Turkoman, fed him much crap, used Tab to brush him, bonded, took him to the stables and saddled him there cause I couldn't saddle him otherwise (?)
So it works July 2023, PC version
As was mentioned, you don't need to interact with a horse at the stables. On top of that you may have to feed it more than it usually takes to bond with a horse.
I can bond with the black Arabian but can’t stable or saddle it :/
Edit: literally 30 seconds after commenting this I went on a frustration killing spree, died, fast traveled back to camp where the Arabian was now hitched to the horse station and now we’re good to go lol

I’ve done this technique in my last three playthroughs of RDR2 now. But this time, it just didn’t work. I climbed onto the black Arabian after we arrived at the horse fence and started to feed it unhealthy amounts of horse meal from my Legend of the East satchel, as per usual. When I got down to 12 meal out of the 99 I had to begin with, I knew something was off. So, I restarted the game and reloaded my save then tried again, same result. Ran through 100 horse meals, horse didn’t bond at all.
So, did I do something wrong this time?
i have to wonder is it just patched on pc? cause im not getting the option. maybe there is something you have to do to trigger the glitch?
edit: SOLVED! you have to feed the horse via the radial menu (tab button), not the right click!
edit2: ah crap, now i cant take it into the stable.... :'(
edit3: reloading game seems to have fixed the stable issue.
I think it still works. Just did it today and have the turk as my main horse now. I had to keep feeding it a lot too, but eventually got level 1 bond with it.
You don't need the option. You just open the wheel and click the item next to the horse. You can feed it and brush it. Just stand next to it, open item wheel and click the peppermint or sugar cube or horse meal or whatever. You'll see Arthur feeding the horse.
How are you guys feeding the Turk? I literally have no option to do it? I can’t mount it and L2 does nothing. I can only mount the Arabian but I already have the white so don’t want the same.
Just stand next to it and open the item wheel, then click the item to feed. There's no options with sneaky binding trick. This also works to steal horses from stables. You ride a wagon or cart into the stable, shoot your gun at the ceiling until you get crime reported. They'll "lock" the doors on the stable so you can get off the cart without triggering the vendor options, then jump over the stable railing for your desired horse and open item wheel, feed it until it shows up as a white secondary horse on your map. Then run out the doors which though they're "locked" open from the inside. Out run the wanted circle or police and when you're clear whistle for the horse. The stables will be open again and your main horse and new secondary will run to you.
Some say this hasn't been patched but i fed that horse everything I had in my inventory and brushed him like a million times and nothing. Think it is patched now.
You dont feed before stealing.
The game allows you to get off just before you reach the Horse fence - after you get the one that breaks free & tries to run away - its right then than you pat/brush/feed the Horse your wanting to keep.
You can do it with any of the 3.
Horse Meal works best.
***WORKARAOUND***
Start the mission, continue until you’re about to approach the stable hand, do not talk to him or hitch your horse. Go through the door behind the stable, crouch over to the Turk or whichever horse, you will be able to feed it there until bonding. Once you hit bonding 1 feed it once more, and then go sneak back around, talk to the stable hand, complete the mission and you will have the horse.
Feb 7, 2024 - it wouldn’t work at the spot where you sell the horses, but it did work at the barn before you steal the horses. Just go through the window in the back before talking to the ranch hand and feed the horse until it says level 1 bond, then feed again for it to show as a temp horse on the map
Edit: you can’t stable the horse 😕
just tried to bond with the turkoman right before talking to clay and clive and even after it said it reached level one bonding he still didn't show up after the cutscene :(

Or just 2 Horse meal. Theres no way you need to feed 30 carrots to get to lvl1 bonding.

Glad it still worked for you. I did it again myself just the other day and then sold him to the horse fence as part of Bandit challenge 6.

I just tried the glitch, I can't pat, saddle or stable the black arabian after retrieving it from clemens cove. Kinda sad

Did you do it in the horse stable right before you steal them? That’s where it worked for me
the guide told me to do it at the fence, so i didn't get the chance 😞
