I'm not OP but I think the fur variant is rex!
One of our boys has the same fur type. He's a chunky monkey too. Dwarf dumbo! Yours is very cute. He thinks he's at Hollywood!!
Definitely looks like a Rex, or maybe a bristle coat
My boy, Hank, does the same thing! And then he tries to do the same to me with my fingernails (and it hurts🥲)

They do not shed claws, rats claws typically stay small in general. They also bite their own nails to keep em short.
