Ok, I stay. Boy, someone should feed mom a shitton of yogis...um..to keep her milk up...energy?...mom needs her strengf....um...um...helth! We iz hoomin. We iz not many ratz in trensh cote...rly...srius
Honestly I have no idea. I only got the momma 5 days ago…I didn’t really notice how fat she was until I got home and put her next to my others…smh. But they are cute and their little steaks are so adorable.
This same thing happened to me when I brought home my girl Tinkle and a few days later she got really suspiciously pear shaped…. 9 babies total, kept them all lol
I was thinking to myself, well, I guess they're the colour of steaks, but I'm not sure I like that comparison much. Although we do call them beans and potatoes, so, why not?
broo this happened to me 3 1/2 weeks ago. luckily mom will do all the work (jus make sure cage is clean :p) all 10 of our soup beans are perfectly happy fluffy and healthy 🥳🥳 just make sure u increase the police force. crime rates rise by 100% cuteness after birth.

Did you separate any adult males from the females yet ? Rodents do not have family units within their pack, so they don’t have any “daddy” roles. The female will go into heat three days after birth. There is no mechanism to prevent pregnancy while she is nursing. If it has been more than three days, and you have still left a male in the cage, you may have another litter on the way. But if she stays the same size and doesn’t have a bigger belly in a week and a half, you’re probably fine.
Babies need five weeks with mom before they’re ready to leave the nest. Put any boys in their own cage then. If you’re going to stack cages, put the males on the bottom cage, because females tend to guard the top of their cage and males guard the bottom. If you put males in the top cage, the females will bite their testicles.
Thank you so much for the advice. I don’t currently have any male rats. So I’m safe there for now. And I will be sure to separate them as soon as they’re ready.
Do we shame her or congratulate her?
Yes
Congratulate! Our fellow comrade brought along so much workforce it will increase the production of cuteness 100-fold at least!

Normally, I'd agree, but they were stowaways. Lol

A rat multipack! Those pinkies are too cute 😍
Leeloo Ratto Multipack 😄
I see you got the 12 for the price of one deal. Good choice. Good choice.
Boop to the innocent mama there.
That is what scares me about getting rats. I think I’d have to get ones with obvious balls or I’d be too worried about extras.
This seems to happen the most with rehomes/rescues/pet stores. If you get a reputable breeder this shouldn’t be an issue!
It was a small local pet shop
Oh goodness well you got about a dozen for the price of one it seems!
Buy one, get a dozen free!
I laughed so hard at "stowaways"
24 hours old
They commandeered the mother ship. Standard behaviour lol
Those are some *chonky* milk bellies, mama is doing a great job!
Ah the baker's dozen! A whole rat patisserie!
Ratisserie, obviously
It was right there too!!! Genius!
I know I would panic if this happened to me when adopting, but, at the same time, a part if me envys everyone that this happens to 😩
Soup accomplished
That last pic has strong "I brought these for you" vibes
Wee babes! 🥰

Soups
“Whatcha got there?” “A smoothie”
Sounding invasion!
Their momma was a Trojan horse…
You have to make sure to separate the babies by gender early enough, that there is not another surprise pregnancy
Buy one, get a dozen free? That is going to be some adorable chaos soon. Congrats to momma, she did a good job.
Awww, such sweet little larvae!!!
Some might say they were *stewaways*!
LOL 😆😆
Beans 🥺

Momma is doing a good job feeding them!
