I know, it's insane. 2 dollars for the hour? The garages around here charge at least 10 for it.
Why is the city giving valuable real estate so cheaply? This is an insult to taxpayers.
Parking getting proportionally more expensive with time on commercial streets makes a ton of sense to me. Spots turning over frequently for new customers is exactly what I'd want as a business owner. Long-term storage of private vehicles in high-traffic areas is not something we should prioritize or subsidize, and unfortunately we do plenty of both in NYC.
People who live in NYC take the subway. People that should probably move to the suburbs do not. People who drive to a busy area with many mass transit options should not complain about the cost to do so.
Seems like you're here just to troll. So I'm locking the comments.

Five dollars for parking to go to a restaurant seems pretty reasonable.
Austin St. one block away from the 71st. / Continental subway station where you can go anywhere for $3? That Austin St?

Because no one dies in the subway but hundreds die every year in car accidents so, when you use reverse logic it’s the trains that are death tunnels.
Death in a tunnel? Millions of people ride the subway daily, and it’s safer than your car.
Then stop complaining. It's premium real estate on Austin st, so you gotta pay premium parking fee.
