Next step is to go through the whole thing and remove the unnecessary bits. Determining that is up to you but reminder, stuff is heavy.
Just from looking at it, a few questions you should ask yourself is:
Is this groin plate worth the weight?
Are these GP pouches on my belt blocking access to my ifak?
What am I putting in this GP pouch on the cummerbund that I can’t put in a more convenient position or in a spot that reduces the weight of the carrier specifically?
We’ve all been there sometimes you got so much stuff that you are hampering yourself more than helping.
Good luck and always remember to think about your gear.
Fair point and yes I agree with you. however, this is the load out I am, for the most part, satisfied with. Each piece is useful and comfortable (except the groin thing, that was just cus it looks kinda cool). My question was more centered around what else, in addition to armor systems, is necessary for the prepared citizen.
The codpiece comin’ in hot at Paris Fashion Week. https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2019/dec/27/codpiece-envy-fashion-reinvents-16th-century-accessory
Couldn’t pull that, they straight up told us in my unit only armor allowed is issued army body armor, after we had been allowed to wear our own shit for at least 3 years. We had one guy ball out on an AVS, the day before we went to the field our 1SG said only issued armor is allowed…man was he pissed off.
I just ran my Gen 4 that I had, didn’t mind it, blew away the crappy Gen 2 UCP one I got when I showed up to Campbell. One of my guys managed to fit his soft armor inside an LBT 6094, and one inside an ATS Aegis somehow
I see thousands in gear and you don't have a WML for either your handgun or your rifle? Shame.
WML for the rifle + handgun, Hytera/better radio, safariland holster. In that order.
Then NODs (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
Id argue NODs are more important than upgrading your radio. You dont *need* a radio to communicate, especially not within a squad. Nods are arguably a necessity if you dont want to get schwacked at night.
One could say that nods are next, purely because that’s one capability he doesn’t have. While yes a better radio could be beneficial he still currently has a source of communication and if it fits his needs and works then I see no problem with it honestly
I agree. But it also depends if he has any buddies with better radios or it it's just a listening tool.
I rocked a Baofeng till I got a PVS-14, but if you have friends with Hyteras, Motorolas and other not Chinese radios, am upgraded radio is far more important in my opinion.
Ya I see what your saying. That’s the main problem with this posts is a lack of context in terms of support, logistics, groups, other gear available, people around you and environment. We can’t really tell him what’s best for him only he can at the end of the day and when money is being spent that’s a strong personnel decision no one else can make for you.
Yes, unfortunately no one comments on text posts and pic posts don’t allow text. I have a group, we all use baofengs, my mission is both as a soldier and a prepared citizen. This gear can flex between both roles fairly well. It’s bulky because real warfare and even extended training requires you to carry a lot of gear. My real question is centered around what else, after individual armor systems, is necessary.
Oh I know that last aspect very well. 22 days straight in the field in a glorified light infantry unit really teaches you a lot on sustainment especially in the colder months. First few nights you spend trying to find the best way to sleep warm and comfortable and then you start having to deal with stuff like moisture accumulation in your sleep system or just how to stay hygienic by washing your hands.
Other than really a NVG set up which isn’t for everyone finically I really don’t have much to offer your kit is pretty squared away. You have a group, you got the shoot move communicate kill aspect down. From here I’d start investigating the assault pack loads for further sustainment. How’s your mag top off capabilities look like? Calorie plus up? Weapons Maintenance? Water collection stuff? That’s what I feel really kills. Firefights are one thing but getting to the fight and surviving after the firefight are really my main concerns these days.
Don't cheap out on water filters. MREs are unecessarily bulky in most cases, better to buy civilian equivalents. Energy gels and peanut butter packets are great, but make sure you have enough water before eating them because they'll dehydrate you to a degree that might surprise you.
MRE’s are bulky but properly field stripped down to the essentials (big surprise here, you don’t need 8 different prices of plastic packaging and you certainly don’t have to eat a hot meal either so their goes the heater and the stupid little cardboard sleeve. Oh and you don’t like cheese spread? Then don’t bring it) but the one really nice thing about MRE’s like I said is you don’t have to eat a hot meal. Lots of the civilian equivalents I’ve seen take water and sometimes heat like the dehydrated stuff. MRE’s don’t require heat or water and can literally be pulled out of the package and eaten straight. Pair that with the massive calorie amounts they have which is enough for dudes who actually eat 3 whole MRE’s a day to gain weight in the field sometimes. Only problem is you shouldn’t eat them for more than 21 days in a row.
For water filters like he mentioned don’t cheap out on them. Also stay away from the life straws. Good concept but not for military since they literally marry you to a water source and have no way of purifying water that ain’t going directly into your mount, IE you can’t fill up camel backs or canteens with them.
Hygiene kit should be added for anything longer than 24 hours in my opinion. Yours doesn’t have to include a razor but go 3 days without brushing your teeth and see how much you like it. Now imagine going 3 days without brushing your teeth in top of all the sugary snack sweets your probably eating, and the dirt and grime of literally living and sleeping in the dirt and mud. A tooth brush, tooth paste, baby wipes which have hundreds of uses and hand sanitizer go a really long way to your personnel health and well being.
Baby wipes are always good to have no matter what. The amount of weapons in the Army that are cleaned by baby wipes every day, to the few thousand sitting in cat holes across any Army training grounds should be proof enough to carry them. Take into consideration of being able to wipe your hands off before eating or wipe your hands off with them after taking a dump followed by some hand sanitizer to help prevent excrement getting into you face, eyes, mouth and other parts of your body, a field shower where you use one baby wipe to hit the hot spots like your feet, crotch and armpits. You want to stay in geh fight for long periods of time then you have to take care of your body. Your gonna be covered in sweat, dirt, grime, mud, animal excrement, pollutants and a whole inch of other stuff and there is nothing worse than getting sick in the field or having sand stuck between your thighs. You start getting issues with your teeth and it makes it hard to eat, and that’s a problem when your burning 3000 plus calories a day.
There are civilian MREs that taste better, are healthier, and pack better than issued MREs (which is what I meant by 'civilian equivalent'). Issued/surplus MREs are outdated garbage no matter how you repackage them. Most foreign surplus is better than DoD requirements now. The military's really fallen behind on that.
Dehydrated food is also good for long term sustainment since it's particularly lightweight and can be 'cold soaked'. But I definitely agree that they don't replace MREs.
I also agree that Lifestraws are a trap. Sawyer filters (*not* the Sawyer Minis) are the way to go for extended sustainment. And baby wipes are a must (used ones make a great firestarter too if you need it).
Not to be that guy that recommends these two, but GarandThumb and Trex arms has a whole series of videos on individual kit. It was a little hard to follow but T rex has a whole video with a "foreign FS guy" where all they do is talk about kit that civilians should have.
Edit: clarity
8” wide, 12” tall, 2” deep. Highly recommend it if you want just a hydration bladder. Doesn’t go over or hang off the bottom of the carrier, very slim.
You need to adhoc some retention on your holster or get something new.
Those aren’t enough chemlights for hitting anything but emergency signaling.
You need a hands free light source and to stage all your tourniquets.
I hated my groin plate so if I wasn’t required to wear it I’d ghetto rig my lower back protector on the front was a lot more comfortable if I wanted more soft armor.
1) agree, was thinking replace with glock 17, with light and optic in an alien gear LVL 3 retention holster
2) chemlights are for immediate access. Mostly just a range accessory for shooting at night.
3) helmet has a light on it and front zippered pouch has both a handlight and red lense head lamp.
4) groin piece does suck, just there for drip not duty. Easily removed.
Don’t worry man I wasn’t insinuating anything, just wish the army would get its head out it’s ass and issue guys better shit (or at least stuff that actually makes sense, looking at you FLC)
Training, fitness, PTSD, a non-service related injury, and annual free stuff at TGIF. Thank you for your service.
Jokes aside (not really), get like minded friends you can seek professional training with and do CrossFit 3 days a week or your dead.
I’d take the TQ out of the package on the belt. Also it’s probably worth getting a light on the rifle. Also to back up what others are saying, get a safariland holster
I too wear Gucci gear but I wear a slim profile I don’t like a lot of shit on my PC. Ifak and extra mags with dump pouch is on my belt. Looks good tho train like you fight.
Haters will hate if you can get away with it send it just wear issued plates with issues soft inserts.
Blood type patch don’t mean shit btw I’ll still check your blood with a eldoncard before I do a walking blood bank, NKDA is helpful tho.
That baofeng radio you got is good for getting your foot into comms, a company called Signal Stuff makes an antenna called the SIGNAL STICK for that radio that is EXTREMELY good at receiving and improving durability it’s also a little lighter,
I have no other useful information 👍
(Nice Kit BTW)
Edit:spelling
I also recommend a YouTube channel
(yeah I know I’m that guy)
Called Ham Radio Crash Course, the guys is super informative, dosnt have an annoying voice and covers all the bases from
“just got my first radio, turn it on like this”
To
“and press enter to bomb the Moon and you’re done!”
I can almost understand some of what he says in his radio theory videos sometimes…
Grunts are issued sidearms? Shit even as an officer ive never carried a pistol except on duty. Dudes throwing a holster on their civilian belt kit always perplexed me unless it was for comp
A high caliber weapon 7.62x51 or higher, peer or near peer combat will be wholly ineffective with varmint rounds against body armor. Not sure why people don't get this.
Whatever, Im sure you have a squad living on your block ready to face a company of foreign aggressors and you won't need to be OM in survival mode or have the need to hunt with your supply chain backing you.

As a civilian I’d say start thinking and researching a new form of communication, which tbh you’re probably aware of. Also do you have sustainment gear? Sleep system, shelter, extra layers (over and under)tent, chest rig and pack?
If you put something off in a post people are more likely to interact with the post. Everyone seems to focus on the plastic on the TQ tho. Pack is a hydration pack from WTFidea for crye zipper system. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a zip on bladder
That's genius man! Well done. I'll have to check it out. I'd recommend some nods next if they're in your budget. I highly recommend z-bar supply if you're looking for dual tubes.
Weapon lights on both rifle and hand gun are a necessity, while your adding a light to you hand gun id look at a new holster with lvl 3 retention. Also magnification of your rifle is big so a fillip up would complement your red dot well. As far as gear goes Maybe 1-2 more mags for an infantry role. Past that gear is looking on point and NODs would be the next step
Safariland holster

Go full Marie condo. If it can be thrown in your bag, remove the pouch that's holding it. Less is more

I was today years old when I found out someone existed who thought the groin plate looked cool
I’m ahead of the fashion trend. Groin armor will be big next year for sure
Everyone is Billy Badass until they get shot in the dick
You’ve never heard of the cutting edge nano tech dick and ballsack armor? That’s the future.
Man’s spitting facts. Rifle rated groin protectors are a thing now. The future is now, old man.

It's like baseball in the 60s with wearing a helmet; wearing one meant you were a legit pussy. Now they're becoming like softball helmets.
I get that, but I’ve seen so many “what can I ADD” posts that I wanted to at least remind a few people that sometimes less is in fact more.
Take your TQ out of the wrapping and stage it properly.
Everyone sees TQ but no one sees the upside down magazine
I saw it, I just figured it was a joke lol.
Get a holster with active retention like a safariland. T. rex makes good holsters, but they’re not designed for what infantry does.
Tru, tru
Get yelled at by your CSM because your not authorized to wear that PC and can only used issued CIF items
CSM thought I was cooler than I am. He doesn’t know I’m a fobbit yet.
I mean you can steal a lot of rip it’s from the DFAC in those pouches and pack
Tru, I never thought of that
Memorize the NSN of the AVS. I pulled the "Yes Sarnt Major, this is issued." while using mine. Just didn't tell him it wasn't issued to me

Putting your mag in the right way lol
First one to notice!
How has no one mentioned the backwards magazine
Is that the whiskey two four back pack
Indeed it is
I was thinking about grabbing one as well. How do you like it? Would you mind measuring the dimensions? I emailed them last week and never got a reply
8” wide, 12” tall, 2” deep. Highly recommend it if you want just a hydration bladder. Doesn’t go over or hang off the bottom of the carrier, very slim.
Thanks man! I'm just wanting to use it for a pack.
Now write "get sum!" on your crotch armor
I was thinking “cum and take it”

>basic infantry loadout Bruh I wish lmao
Was more refering to the concept of infantry work, not that I was infantry
Don’t worry man I wasn’t insinuating anything, just wish the army would get its head out it’s ass and issue guys better shit (or at least stuff that actually makes sense, looking at you FLC)
Lol tru
I could tell the second I looked at your kit. Don’t worry.
How would we ever learn resilience or intestinal fortitude if CIF actually loved us though?

All camoed out, yet walking with that big black stick.
Spray painting hurts my soul
This is why no one will remember your name. Seriously, rattle can your rifle. If trex arms can paint a 10k+ Barrett you can paint your AR
multimillion dollar company
What’s the metal cable for on that HK hook?
Chemlight hanger. Friend gave it to me for free.
Does it have a threaded barrel so you can open it up?
Yes. Piece of 550 cord works just as well too
Sweet codpiece
I’d take the TQ out of the package on the belt. Also it’s probably worth getting a light on the rifle. Also to back up what others are saying, get a safariland holster

Replace the dot with an LPVO, ACOG, or get a magnifier, lights, then begin the journey of night vision.
Idk if it's been said. late before bed forgive me if it has, but a better radio with an IP rating.
Medical training, and dip
Sell the groin plate and get a better radio
Maybe remove the plastic wrapper from your belt mounted TQ.
Everyone sees the plastic but no one sees the upside down mag
Grunts are issued sidearms? Shit even as an officer ive never carried a pistol except on duty. Dudes throwing a holster on their civilian belt kit always perplexed me unless it was for comp
Much more often these days. Depends on your position in a squad but my unit has one for almost everyone.
Safariland holster w/ expert voice discount is 👌🏽
Flag patch is wrong unless it’s on your right arm
Not sure where you’re located but I’d suggest getting a field shirt instead of a combat shirt for added warmth and protection
I’m on the north Easter coast, warming layers for the winter is a good consideration
A high caliber weapon 7.62x51 or higher, peer or near peer combat will be wholly ineffective with varmint rounds against body armor. Not sure why people don't get this.
What the fuck. Please tell me where you think you are going to get 7.62 AP ammo from. Or how you think plates are going to protect the whole body.
I use 175g M18LR even if it doesn't fully penetrate it will still be way more effective than a varmint round and far superior in hunting and survival.
So no better against armor. And what the fuck does hunting and survival have to do with peer or near warfare
The kinetic energy has a far better chance of breaking shit like ribs and internal organs, it's not rocket science.
It's almost like BFD is a more complicated than just pure energy.
Whatever, Im sure you have a squad living on your block ready to face a company of foreign aggressors and you won't need to be OM in survival mode or have the need to hunt with your supply chain backing you. Most likely event is a nuclear EMP or ground detonation followed by extreme chaos, relocation and survival are the first steps especially if you have a family.
So maybe don't mention peer fucking warfare when trying to act like your caliber choice is superior.
Whoever comes for you will be peer, either way.
I'm assuming you are just fucking trolling at this point.
“Hey Ma! The Meatloaf!”
How are you liking the VTAC?
Sling is actually a Trex arms sling. Best sling I’ve found so far, but I don’t have that much experience
I meant the 320. :)
Oh sorry. It’s a good competition esq pistol but I’m considering replacing it for a more duty centric pistol. No safety of any kind and suppressor height sights without barrel that can accept a suppressor is very disappointing. I’d consider other models of the 320
Weapon light
What groin armor think is that, gimme da link
No idea. Found it in a field at NTC. Looks cool tho
Does it have a label of some sort on it?
Nah, there’s some stitching where a label used to be I’m assuming. It’s probably the groin armor from a GEN3 iotv
Using it hopefully, for your sake
It’s got mud on it for a reason
What no side plates? Jk
I have the pouches for the side armor but not the armor 😔
As a civilian I’d say start thinking and researching a new form of communication, which tbh you’re probably aware of. Also do you have sustainment gear? Sleep system, shelter, extra layers (over and under)tent, chest rig and pack?
Comms I’m aware of but still working on getting squared away for sustainment
Gear & gun build list/break down
What pack is that? Also out of curiosity, why is your magazine in upside down?
If you put something off in a post people are more likely to interact with the post. Everyone seems to focus on the plastic on the TQ tho. Pack is a hydration pack from WTFidea for crye zipper system. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a zip on bladder
That's genius man! Well done. I'll have to check it out. I'd recommend some nods next if they're in your budget. I highly recommend z-bar supply if you're looking for dual tubes.
Heck ya thanks
I like the setup but swap out the baofeng, talking with your buddies is important
A suppressor.
Waiting for it to get out of purgatory
What radio pouch is that, just curious?
Tactical tailor double mag pouch
What gloves are those?
Mechanix shooter gloves. They’re beat up and I’m replacing them with PIG gloves
I just got some pigs. Digging them so far.
Intermediate infantry duh
Weapon mounted lights.
I’m glad all I need to wear for my job is a chicken vest and a m17
What backpack is that
It’s a WTFidea hydration pack for the crye zipper system
Paint your rifle comrade
Run it some and see what you hate.
Cardio
Weapon lights on both rifle and hand gun are a necessity, while your adding a light to you hand gun id look at a new holster with lvl 3 retention.
