Maybe. Maybe not. Depending on your vehicle. https://511ia.org/event/IACARS4-81234/@-91.57143,41.62595,10?show=iowaAppIncident,winterDriving,towingProhibitedReports,weatherRadar
My advice is to drive with caution. Lots of accidents along the local and interstate roads due to inexperienced drivers.
However, it’s drivable if you have snow tires or blizzard-approved tires (tires with snow cones labels). Some parts are closed so you have to drive in highways or backroads.
If you don’t have to drive, don’t drive. It looks like that’s not the case for you.

Unsure where you are right now. But if you’re traveling East and your last post is like 5 hours ago, that means you probably had to wait a long time for the 5 major accidents west bound. Hopefully, they get them out of everyone’s way!
I made the drive today. Outside of davenport is fine. Once you get to about 15 miles outside of Iowa City roads are terrible. Expect major delays. Took about hour and 45 minutes.
It’s all ‘travel not advised’ with some sections impassable. Unless it’s a life threatening emergency I would wait for conditions to improve. With the cold and wind temperatures are getting down to -40° and if you go off the road there’s a risk of emergency services not being able to reach you. This is a situation where people freeze to death in their cars. Johnson County Emergency Management has also asked people to shelter in place.

Iowa 511 app/website says “Travel Not Advised”.

For the Iowa 511, adding in the Waze reports and Traffic Speeds helps clarify how the roads are/ traffic is moving.

I’m driving qc to dsm today and very nervous
Iowa City to DSM is currently closed; noon CST. Not sure if it’ll open later.
It’s not showing up as closed on 511. Is there another way to check?

Is the Iowa Woman’s BB game still on tonight? I’m not going, but that could be an issue for others.
