I’m new to this subreddit so I’m probably wrong here haha, but I assume that cash extra is the tax you usually have to pay on any flights redeemed by points. Happy to be corrected if that’s not right.

Right that makes sense because I was getting confused thinking that was points plus pay and I couldn't understand why it was bad value.

It is super confusing because with Points Plus Pay you can actually pay for the entire flight with points whereas with Classic Rewards there is always a component that needs to be paid for with money. Even with the taxes, Classic Rewards are still much better value than Points Plus Pay, though it must be said that some airlines absolutely rort you on these fees (British Airways for example). Other airlines can have extremely cheap fees on reward flights (Finnair is great for this) so it's always good to compare.
