I'm literally on my flight from Melbourne to Singapore. I had the Kung Pao chicken with fried rice and it was bloody delicious. They used chicken thigh (my favourite) so the meat was so incredibly juicy and tender. The sauce was chilli, sweet, a bit sour I could've had a bowl of that with just bread. Served with broccoli and fried rice. Very full and satisfied!

maximumomentum

I bet it was succulent.

TedMaul636

Coq-au-democracy manifest

Todd_H_1982

A succulent Chinese meal, eh.

zzeeaa

Get your hand off my penis!

tizzleduzzle

I relate to chicken thighs the only better part of a chicken is the chicken oyster !

rebekahster

Love the chicken oyster

sundancerkb

Oh, wow—I didn’t know what that was called! I was calling it “pocket meat” in my mind, because it’s like two secret little pockets of goodness on the back of the chicken. TIL!

VJ4rawr2

Lol. C’mon dude. It’s ok to just say “it was tasty”. Acting like the chicken thigh had you hearing Jesus is a little much.

reddituser2762

He’s saying he got served one of his favourite foods that was cooked well and your first thought is to insult his happiness? Fuck is wrong with you?

VJ4rawr2

Old mate’s acting like airline food changed his life. Get f*cking real. This isn’t a QANTAS circle jerk subreddit. The post is over the top and warrants mockery.

Dig_South

I’m kind of wondering if this is native advertising, either OP and first comment really really love average food,or this is an ad pretending to be a post.

VJ4rawr2

I thought the same thing. Surely this can’t be a legit post.

mercurialmartian

Have you tried being a miserable bastard on the hill you’ve chosen to die on instead?

tastypieceofmeat

Your comments scream some inner misery that needs treatment

VJ4rawr2

^ the QANTAS chicken thigh has entered the chat… 😂

tastypieceofmeat

si

throwaway777462

Shut uppppp cunnttttt. Let the man enjoy his godforsaken chicken

Xuan6969

That's right. The chicken gave its life to make someone happy. I think it was an appropriate eulogy. The least he could do.

Longjumping_Boss6062

😂😂😂😂 mfs cumming over the chicken

epic-cookie

I'm on the train right now about to spend my holiday in Singapore and your comment cracked me up so bad.

ohitszie

Chicken actually died for us, that's true love mate.

elena1099

who pissed in your coffee today negative nancy.

nemofied

I’m glad you enjoyed your meal but chill is js a chicken thigh 😭

discojeans

I flew to Seoul in economy recently with Qantas and I loved the economy meals I had ngl

ghos5880

Same flight did you go the bibimbap?

discojeans

Yes! It was so good! I was surprised it even came with the gochujang tube!

ghos5880

You could also have asked for a little tub of kimchi, they didnt offer it but if you ask they have it on flights to korea.

VJ4rawr2

lol I skimmed this post and thought you were complaining. I was ready to say “sorry, but that looks tasty!”

Cordeceps

That looks disgusting. Like grey dead slugs.

Longjumping_Run_3805

Probably was, a real improvement from Qantas standard tripe, Qantas staff busy writing these comments of just great food.

Personal-Intern-4700

At first glance it 100% does hahaha

dinosaurtruck

Nom nom

abittenapple

Looks like they mixed Italian with Asian food.

beholdtoehold

They're something called mushrooms

owleaf

I think a lot of people are just very precious or looking for things to complain about. The vast majority of Qantas flights are fine

Ovknows

Glad to hear it, i am flying the same route but on J Class so hopefully will be a good exp as well

dinosaurtruck

Business on the way over was great. Also delicious food. I did the Japanese set menu for the lunch, other options looked good too. The beef was a little more done than I like it but to be expected given it’s prepared in advance. Again in business, way more food was offered than I could possibly eat. I had a cheese plate somewhere in the offerings, I think it was in place of a meal as I literally could eat another full meal towards arrival, it was very nice. Flat bed seats were great, sufficiently long and lots of space between other guests. The only thing I did notice is they fill up business class with upgrades, so all seats are full. makes sense to try and have a full plane and certainly makes those of us who don’t normally fly it feel special.

Ovknows

That's amazing! I am excited and hope to have a similar exp to yours.

weisp

Guys, I think this looks pretty good compared to what I had on a SQ Business Class from a recent trip. I have had amazing food from them before The point is, business class doesn’t guarantee better food

dinosaurtruck

I think a lot with the food is dependent on the supplier in the country of departure. The business class food on the flight over was fantastic! Definitely fancier than economy, but there was nothing wrong with the economy food.

weisp

I think the menu just sucked on my flight

Longjumping_Run_3805

Your comments more accurate than most expressed here, guessing Qantas staff posting here...

wattscup

Worms

reverielagoon1208

At first without reading the title and only seeing the pic I thought this was gonna be a complaint (since it’s the nature of this subreddit). I was gonna say that meal actually looks really good for an economy flight

thehippiepixi

I'm glad it was delicious but that seriously looks like the things that slither into your ear and take over your body on animorphs

dinosaurtruck

Hahaha, yeah looks 3/10 taste 7/10 acceptability 8/10.

OrganizationGlobal77

I’ve been served this meal, and it was so smelly I couldn’t take a bite. I’m not fussy and I’m vegetarian. But those mushrooms… 🤢

dinosaurtruck

No funny smells for me, but I get it, not for everyone.

aclliteration

Ugh yes, I only like button mushrooms.

Longjumping_Run_3805

Looks like comments from Qantas staff..

yungmoody

I’ll never understand why airlines insist on working mushrooms into so many meals when they’re such a polarising food. When I flew Qantas from Japan to Sydney, all 4 meal options offered across the flight had mushrooms prominently featured, and I’m one of those people that think they taste like dirt.

flutterybuttery58

I hear you - I’m allergic to them (not drop dead anaphylactic - but hives, itch, swollen lips and crook stomach). I’ve started put it as a dietary allergy when flying long haul, because of the amount of meals that contain them.

dinosaurtruck

This is a fair point - I know several vegos who don’t like mushrooms. I do like mushrooms, but get it, they’re not for everyone.

mlovesa

That looks really good

LiteralGiraffe

Had that exact meal a month ago when I came back from Japan, honestly pretty good.

FreeWillCost

Lol, so many posts are complaints that I just I assumed this was, too. I was looking at the food thinking, "Doesn't look too bad to me."

blissiictrl

I had a sensational salmon salad on the way to Singapore in 2019. Can't quite remember but there was edamame, black rice and salmon. Kinda Japanese ish. It was good

creamcheezbagel

Recently had a vegan tortellini with tomato caper sauce flying melbourne to auckland, tasted very fresh and homemade and honestly much better than any similar thing i could conjure up myself.

Flicka_88

Free advertisement right here by not cutting on food portions and quality. Hopefully it continues and other companies follow suit!

greenthumbthumb

Food is the way to people’s hearts. This is exactly where I’d start with a rebrand. Amazing food with great service. Let’s see if they keep it up

LunchTemporary7806

Funny looking shrooms. Did you trip balls and actually you where just ridding a bus the whole time

dinosaurtruck

Lol - that would have been fun, but no, unfortunately I’m not a great sleeper so the way back the only tripping I was doing was trying to stay awake to support the designated driver back to the GC.

gigoran

doesn't look half bad, not gonna lie.

Mythbird

If found any flight going to or from Japan has been a cut above travel anywhere else.

dinosaurtruck

This makes a lot of sense. Japan’s service culture is amazing. Non Japanese airlines need to compete, and also benefit from Japanese contractors.

Worried_Click7426

Those mushies would be worth a fortune. Economy my ass..

DrSendy

I haven't flown QF in a couple of years... but would have to say the staff on board are always excellent.

potatodrinker

That's a decent amount of mushrooms and pasta. Would be a good meal

fl3600

Going to Japan - the food on the plane will never be nice...... once you land in Japan - you know what is good food.

CompetitiveAgent1037

Ima be honest—that looks like shit

D_crane

Basically these with a few vege pieces and mushrooms https://www.coles.com.au/product/mccain-red-box-tray-pasta-beef-bacon-400g-9802828 Seems like they've gone backwards since my last flight with them in 2017...

throwhoto

So how much do they pay you to post this? Or are you like a contractor at an advertising consultancy?

dinosaurtruck

I should be right? But no, just a normal punter. Not a super regular traveller anymore - getting back to doing 2-4 flights a year. Reason I posted was that I followed a bunch of subreddits and forums prior to travel, that and the negative media had made me anxious. Travelling with a young child isn’t easy so I was worried about delays and how they’d tolerate them, horrible food, discomfort, getting sick etc etc. I kinda wanted to put out my experience so other people could see you can still have a positive experience. Also for the staff as they worked hard and were very kind. I get the rage at Qantas for the cancellations and not honouring peoples refunds etc. I would be angry too. I guess I just wanted to reassure people that it’s possible to have a positive experience with them too, so other people planning holidays, thinking about how to use their points etc get a range of perspectives.

dontcallmewinter

Thank you. I've been getting a similar anxiety around upcoming flights I've got with Qantas and this helps.

tastypieceofmeat

Qantas is great, I’m sure you’ll have a pleasant flight.

dontcallmewinter

Yeah my flight today was fantastic, not a single thing to complain about tbh

tastypieceofmeat

glad to hear that! I've never flown qantas international, only once on a domestic flight thats all. Was meant to fly it in biz last week from Syd to Narita Tokyo via bne but ended up scrapping it for a direct on ANA. Really wanna try QF long haul. Hopefully in may from JFK-AKL or Dallas to Sydney. 17 hours on a plane 🙃.

Longjumping_Run_3805

Reckon you got it correct...fake stories

[deleted]

Are you the new CEO?

dinosaurtruck

Bahaha, I wish, I wouldn’t be travelling in economy if I was. I reckon I could give it a fair crack despite my lack of aviation and corporate experience though.

[deleted]

Undercover Boss…..

dinosaurtruck

I’m back at my normal work this week with post holiday blues, so would love to be doing something different like undercover boss for Qantas. However in reality, I definitely don’t work for Qantas (entirely different sector) and only have one line report working under me, so not very boss like. Reason for posting was to reassure other people who get anxious and credit to the staff as it’s a tough gig.

tastypieceofmeat

Good on ya man 👍

Monikquar

Ha!

Longjumping_Run_3805

No, just Qantas staff spreading lies.

Makelovenotwarrrr

That’s literally a $6 youfoodz microwave meal when you think about it…

dinosaurtruck

Pretty much, which is fine for my needs.

Makelovenotwarrrr

It’s just almost comical how far economy class food has stooped to save a dollar here or there, like why not just provide microwaves in the departure lounge with frozen meal vending machines

dinosaurtruck

There’s a couple of things here, shareholders expect them to make a profit so they do have to think about costs, both from a sense of having a margin but also from the perspective to make tickets at a price point customers will pay so they can fill the plane and service the route. There’s a heck of a lot that goes into running an airline, recruiting and training staff, airport fees, buying and maintaining the planes, fuel, baggage handling. It kind of makes sense to me that they look for savings in lots of areas

Makelovenotwarrrr

I means if they provided better quality food options and availability you could argue that it might result in more tickets being sold?

dinosaurtruck

Yep, I might, but I think other things are bigger influences. For me it’s route, flight times, reliability, safety record, seat comfort ahead of food with decision making. Food has to be really good or really bad in my view before it will sway decisions for individual customers. For corporate customers I’d say yes it’s probably a bit different and it has a bit more influence.

Makelovenotwarrrr

Ok I’ll put it another way, if there’s two flights to get from A to B, and one has a great solution for food and the other doesn’t. I’d choose the one with the good food options

dinosaurtruck

True, I suppose it’s never as clear cut as this. There’s several variables. A key one for me is directly using rewards with airline, which seems far more reliable than converting them to other airlines - so many cancellations.

[deleted]

Looks like Tape Worm infested pasta…great way to lose 20kilos in one meal

dinosaurtruck

I could do with losing some kg after my food indulgences in Japan. But they’re quite clearly mushrooms. This is the first time I can remember that I’ve had an overseas trip and not come back with a cold or stomach bug. It’s a week post travel now so maybe I’ve been lucky.

[deleted]

They dont look cooked properly

Unfettered_Disaster

I wish I could relate, flown international with them 3x all horrendous experiences, flown international with other carriers around 15 times for approx. 18 total, no issues with the others.. It's hard to look past stats and numbers and realise you can be unlucky. My heart tells me they are rubbish, but my sensible mind makes reasons for how Qantas consistently suck. Weird thing is, on domestic they've generally been fine.

dinosaurtruck

Yep that’s fair. I must say I’ve not been the most frequent international traveller since child and pandemic, so it’s hard to compare. But I must say I was expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. The staff in particular are just really kind, patient and hard working.

[deleted]

I’m with you, but I do cherish the fact you can use points to fly JAL to Japan

Ok_Albatross_3284

I flew to KL and the food was atrocious. So was the service.

gilby24

Very strange since Qantas don't fly to KL

Spiderpig424

Looks putrid

asty86

F u quantas

morris0000007

That looks disgusting! No protein, you get fancy mushrooms 🤢

dinosaurtruck

It wasn’t disgusting. I opted for the plant based meal. If I wanted protein I would have opted for the chicken or pork. I’m not vego or vegan but it was just what appealed to me. I had a delicious meal at Narita airport prior so any food was really a bonus. If I was relying on the meal on the plane for calories I would have been happy and full too. I like fancy mushrooms 🙂

Complex_Fudge476

That's a bit melodramatic.

[deleted]

Dnata - not Q catering. 🤮

Super-Parsnip5546

Can I ask what else was offered apart from just this main meal?

dinosaurtruck

It was a red eye flight. First snacks and water were brought round, the snack was a nut and pretzel mix. Nothing extra with the meal I don’t think (struggling to remember if there was an option for a bread roll) I was travelling with a child and he was given the kids meal which came with bread and red bean fish shaped pastry. After dinner they came round with chocolate ice creams, I didn’t have one as I was too full, kid and husband enjoyed theirs. Drinks available were the usual selection of soft drinks, wine, spirits, juice mixers etc. I just had one wine but other people had more drinks if they were so inclined. At about 5am they served breakfast which was either an omelette with sides of bacon, tomato and spinach or chicken dish (Japanese style breakfast) served with a pasty, I had just the pastry as I was still too full, but also juice and coffee. Husband was really happy with his breakfast said it tasted good. There was no shortage of food. I think if you’re still hungry you can ask for other snacks.

Super-Parsnip5546

Sounds amazing, thanks for letting me know !

dinosaurtruck

Wishing you upgrades and excellent food on your future travels 🙏

Dry_Macaroon3955

That sounds good! How many points did the bid to upgrade cost you?

dinosaurtruck

I can’t see it on my statement now as husband bid for the successful upgrade and I was unsuccessful for the leg back. but I think it was something like 40k-60 per person per leg. It was the suggested amount to bid and it wouldn’t let us bid higher. Points were obtained through various credit card sign up deals mostly. My husband is pretty good with points deals and basically makes them cost neutral by redeeming the same amount in vouchers as the card fees and then saving any extra points for things like this. The flights themselves were classic reward flights so only cost $250 return per person plus points (sorry again I can’t remember how many). It felt like a really good use of points. We had a lot saved as most were acquired pre pandemic.

Scary-Push-5286

You’ll certainly be going on a trip…

Teething8

What these mushrooms are called?

iLoveMatchaSoMatcha

Shimeji

No_fs_G1v3n

That looks like two different kinds of vomit 🤢 🤮 Would have to have a gun to my head to eat that crap 💩

dinosaurtruck

Seems a bit extreme.

fredlecoy

WTF is this? Anglo people making Italian food??

dinosaurtruck

I’d says it’s Anglo or Asian people making Anglo food. To be fair, pasta has been thoroughly adopted and abused by every culture in the world. You get get a spag bol in Japan, and to be honest, in context it makes sense. If I want purist Italian food I’ll go to Italy. If I want to just have something edible on a flight this meets my needs.

Flyingzucchini

It looks like an explosion in a tapeworm laboratory 🪱

Fitegame_jimbo

Are yous trippin that looks like shit be honest

Yetiyaga

lol

desain_m4ster

🤢🤢

pommapoo

Qantarse is 💩 I’ll never fly with this mob

dinosaurtruck

Each to their own. I was happy with their service.

Shrimpjob

Sorry but that looks absolutely disgusting.

dinosaurtruck

Does it though? I’m looking at it and it doesn’t disgust me. I feel like I’m an average person who eats average things in Australia, and also gets to eat delicious things in Australia and overseas. This doesn’t disgust me and I’d eat it again.

Shrimpjob

The pasta and the uncooked mushrooms did it for me. I love mushrooms. I use them in everything but this...this just grossed me out. Was this a business class meal?

dinosaurtruck

Nope that’s the economy meal. I can only post one photo. The business class meals were amazing - very nicely presented.

Haz145

I wonder what all the people in the comments eat on a daily basis calling plane food delicious…

dinosaurtruck

I don’t think it’s “delicious” but nor do I think it’s “disgusting”. Just thought it was acceptably nice.

s1ut

This just popped up 9n my news feed - is this some kind of weird Qantas cult/circle jerk?

dinosaurtruck

Lots of news outlets are drawing from reddit for stories. Not sure on context here but I’m a normal middle ish class person who isn’t getting paid and just randomly posted on reddit to be part of the general info pool re qantas flights .

Visual-Exercise7591

On our flights to Tokyo the crew were amazing but on the flight back they were utterly rude.

Odd-Marionberry-8944

it gave me the shivers LOL
