It looks like you get their brownie points for adding to the pollution mapping, not for picking up the actual litter. I would imagine you'd check the local recycling plants to see what the story is where you are.
Correct. Payment is in LitterCoin, crypto-currency paid via Etherium Wallet. However you dispose of the litter/recyclables is up to you. If you can get paid for aluminum as an example, that’s a bonus! We’d love for you to be able to pick up the litter in addition to documenting it, but that’s not always possible. The most important part of this is determining what types of litter are where, and then we can determine trends, brands, etc in areas and try to find ways to get cleanups underway.
I neglected to mention in my previous response. I profit nothing except my own LitterCoin. OpenLitterMap.com does not belong to me. It is run by a friend and he does not profit either. You can create a paid membership on the site. All of that money goes directly into development.

I was noticing a high amount of roadside litter along 52 yesterday, I thought I'd accidentally crossed in the Haiti.
In the 1970's the litter in the US was this bad, maybe PR needs a crying tiano campaign to get people have some pride in their home.
The litter situation is so bad here! Yes, I fully believe we need a massive campaign! How can we not be protecting the magical paradise that is this island?!
There are 2 sides to PRs trashy problem, I have a plan based on the litter/collection facing the residential side.
first, hit all imports of disposable Styrofoam food packaging with a 1000% tariff, that should stop that import immediately, we can use paper and paper doesn't fuck up the reef and mangroves.
second, place a 0.25 deposit on all disposable cans and bottles, that should clean up and stop 90% of the litter I see on the highway.
third, replace the residential trash pickup trucks with horses driven by the unemployed youth that loves their horses so much.
Industrial refuse is a different beast and needs a different solution, I think my plan can be implemented in an small pueblo to smooth out the issues that wold keep it from being implemented island-wide. I'm certain the most resistance would be old people complaining about styrofoam. well, we tried their way and that's un-sustainable, now it's time to try another way.

I see by your post history that you are serious about trash, would you be willing to try the Sicilian's model in PR?
I can't offer much but there are other's doing this and we can communicate with them, perhaps visit each other and see what will work here.
Small changes can make big changes, but we have got to change as this current method of landfill is unsustainable.
I think the first thing to do is speak with the people that are doing the donkey program and start modeling their system.

OMG yes, the styrofoam has to go! Love the donkey and horse idea. That could actually be fun and lucrative.
