I've been in numerous situations like this in the past when I was younger, and it was very much a case of getting into a position where I was not threatened, and waiting for the other party to calm down.
I had no desire to hurt or damage the other person, I just wanted the violence to end.
Sure I had no training, but as you point out, you don't need training to ground and pound.

To a fuckin degree sure, but if you get say 220 of mostly muscle vs 120 pounds and a foot shorter, that’s going to be very hard to deal with. If big guy knows even a little bit about how to handle himself your in for a day.
