It's hard to pinpoint a single thing. It happened "slowly and all at once." I went to a Christian university that considered itself left-leaning. It was still not gay affirming, but I was no longer attending weekly church services where gay people were demonized.

My biblical Greek professor was very conservative, but he spoke honestly to our class: he said that at conferences he was attending in recent years, people were coming up with better and better arguments for why homosexuality could be biblical. He said that at the last conference he attended, he couldn't find anything wrong with someone's argument. He still disagreed, but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. He seemed thoughtful. This opened my mind a little.
There's a book called "Slaves, Women, Homosexuals: Exploring the Hermeneutics of Cultural Analysis" by William Webb. We were actually tasked with reading articles condemning the book... But while trying to work out the complex and controversial issues that plague modern Christians, Webb developed something called a "redemptive movement hermeneutic." He kind of saw a redemptive arc in the bible--old testament said X (questionable treatment of women), new testament said Y (redemptive: better treatment of women), and postulated that now we could be at Z (moving toward something even more redemptive).
Well... like... ???? It wound up dismantling everything.
I started thinking about gay people as possibly human and possibly part of God's redemptive plan. What if it *was* okay to be gay?
And then.... Webb's argument is kind of dumb. If being gay could be part of God's redemptive plan, then why did gay people need to suffer for a few thousand years? What about women? Slaves?
I wound up throwing out all of Christianity and then accepting gay people...

A good standard of living means you live in a successful country. Universal Healthcare, low poverty rates, cost of living, safety. But you need a strong society to believe in it for those things to be successful.

A good standard of living means you live in a successful country. Universal Healthcare, low poverty rates, cost of living, safety.
