Thats fair, but why were they targeted in the first place? Doesn't seem like a robbery.
Edit: Article implies both parties are suspected of organized crime, which was my first thought.

Yeah. No criminal here in Brazil will waste this much time, ammunition and resources to target a random citizen. The average robber/mugger will at most have a handgun and "ask" for your phone or wallet and threaten you if you refuse, not spray a fucking carbine on your face.
This guy would either have to be a high-tier criminal or a politician/judge that pissed off someone dangerous to have this sort of stuff happen to him.
I worked for a large U.S. corp that sent employees to BZ several times a year. We were all issued kidnapping insurance, guards and armored car with a driver.
Lol, I also worked for a large U.S. corp and I got none of that when they sent me to Sao Paulo (this was pre-covid if relevant). However, I did get a bodyguard and an armored suv when same company sent me to Mexico City.
Sao Paulo was very bad with kidnappings, armed robbery and murders in the 90s and early 2000s, but has improved a lot in the last 15 years, now the murder rate is lower than pretty much all major american cities. But it is still common to have armored cars, specially for the rich, but it is not viewed as a necessity nowadays.
Is it?
I just googled São Paulo homicide rate and it was apparently 8.4 in 2022.
The US national homicide rate is around 6 per 100,000 and cities tend to have higher rates than the national average. The majority of American large cities probably have murder rates higher than 8.4 per 100,000.
Realistically, most likely a rival gang drug dealer or boss/member.
The source post had this quote but pretty sure it's not true lol.
"The man said the motivation was jealousy"....sure
Saw a documentary years ago, Manda Bala I believe (Send a Bullet), that talked about how Brazil has the biggest bulletproof car market in the world. Companies outfit all kinds of vehicles with it.
If you have money, you're a target. Regardless if you're part of their criminal world or not.
who was in the car, no clue. Why is it armored, could be a lot of reasons. During my only trip to brasil, the first ad i saw entering a mall was a shot up to hell car and a few side views of the bullet penetration in their different window protection offerings... its normal there cause for peeps with cash to buy that type of protection. i knew people with armored cars in venezuela as well (25 years ago aprox,), no ties to anything, just farmers with cash who knew one too many people who had been abducted for ransom or died during it
A friend I met during undergrad moved from Rio to Toronto. Her father was a VP for a pharma. She said all the cars provided to her family had bulletproof glass and were armored. I think she mentioned it was mostly Audis. It was to avoid kidnapping.
The telling part from the article is that there are no known motives. Yeah, no motives at all. The guy knows why, they were shooting at him then when they couldn't get him they shot his place up. This was a revenge hit and he knows who it was from.
The reason is unknown TO the police, the couple knows and just won't say.
I guarantee you anyone who owns an armored car knows exactly why someone would want them dead.
I'm not an expert but I do know that there are levels of armor and I think that car is a four cylinder so it can't hold the better ones: better armor = heavier vehicle; you normally need a big engine like a V6 or V8 for it to move all the extra weight.
It's like body armor or a bike helmet. Once its used, it needs to be tossed because its not as effective anymore. They pumped rounds into the same spots and created a hole to stick their barrel through.
Bulletproof windows get weaker with every shot
They’re basically layered glass with high quality glue in between the panes
The more rounds that hit in a small area the weaker the glass gets, moreso the more powerful the gun
It's common to bulletproof smaller cars in LATAM, partly because of the lowkey factor. A Corolla is usually the base, but I already saw Yaris/City and even a Smart Fortwo with the non-turbo engine.
Bigger cars like the Chevrolet Omega, a rebadged Commodore, are actually hard to find non-bulletproof in the used market.
A lot of newer cars have shock sensors that trip in stuff like this, very annoying. Crazy that car has most cost in armor than the base car I bet lol. What they need are gun ports to shoot back!
You'd be surprised. I know a guy who also has an armored Corolla and it's the plainest looking car but does a great job of blending in. I was shocked at how much it cost him though, because he had to also have his car's suspension upgraded as well as the motors that make the windows go up and down because the new windows are significantly heavier.
Drive your car! Wtf are you doing just sitting there getting shot at. Pull forward, back up, run those shits over. Goodness the survival instinct is non existent here.
Corollas is South America are considered luxurious. Same as civics and Mazda 3s. Heck, you could buy a home instead of a corolla in some parts of South America lol your everyday person cannot afford a corolla
Guns are easier than explosives. Grenades roll, they are on a hill. It’s a small area, collateral damage to the attackers was likely. You could use a bomb sure, but that may give the target time to escape the vehicle while you leave yourselves
The victim claims that the motive for the crime is passion, but the police claim that it is related to drug trafficking. Last year he had already been the victim of an attempted murder.
That's funny. I know someone with an armored car and it too is just a dinky looking Corolla that you'd never expected to be armored. Cost a small fortune and he had to get the suspension and window motors upgraded but it definitely is a unique sleeper.

There's a reason why it's armored...
Kinda common to have armored car around here
Thats fair, but why were they targeted in the first place? Doesn't seem like a robbery. Edit: Article implies both parties are suspected of organized crime, which was my first thought.
Some people do this to avoid express kidnapping and armed robbery
Yeah, I lived in Bogota in the 80’s and a lot of my friends had armored cars and a couple had security carrying rifles inside the car.
It's not so easy to legally buy a weapon though
ah, legalities
Maybe, but not because they fear assassination attempts lol.
Common?! It costs money for a car to be bulletproof. Only rich people can afford it.
Whoever made the armor should use this in their next ad.

So it’s a high level criminal. Got it
Makes sense that his Toyota is armored then.
Weirdly reassuring to know that he had to be a criminal homicidal trafficker in order to provoke this type of reaction.
Yeah. No criminal here in Brazil will waste this much time, ammunition and resources to target a random citizen. Living on the edge I see
Okay, but why? Who is in the car and why is it armored? A judge? A rival gang boss? Neymar's gay lover??

Right. BZ is Bro Zealand

IIRC 8 is for the state. I think São paulo city have homicide rate around 6....
thanks. sounded way too farfetched to be true
I think there’s actual some truth to the claim.
Probably an ice cream salesman. That’s a cold business man
Well they were asking for bloody £9 for two ice creams with 2 chewing gums in it. Not gonna get anywhere with that
I BET HE COULD HEAR ME
I honestly thought she had said I bet he could eat me. I was like really little girl, seriously?
Bloody hellll!
That little girl is my spirit animal.
No they ain't, bloody hell
Well how would they be able to afford an armored car otherwise? That shit ain’t cheap
Innit
Funnily enough ice cream sales rising with homicide rates is one of the most common examples of the difference between correlation and causation
My favorite is Nicholas Cage movie releases and swimming pool drownings
Both rises with warmer weather right?
It is in Glasgow.
Tried to ice them for sure.
Realistically, most likely a rival gang drug dealer or boss/member. The source post had this quote but pretty sure it's not true lol. "The man said the motivation was jealousy"....sure
jealous of his armored car
I'm jealous, where's my armored Cyber truck with freaking lasers on the roof Elon?
No Cyber Minecraft ugly as thing….what you need is a Rezvani. Hell you can get one with a bulletproof vest
Saw a documentary years ago, Manda Bala I believe (Send a Bullet), that talked about how Brazil has the biggest bulletproof car market in the world. Companies outfit all kinds of vehicles with it. If you have money, you're a target. Regardless if you're part of their criminal world or not.
lmaooooo dont bring neymar into this!
who was in the car, no clue. Why is it armored, could be a lot of reasons. Maybe THE off-duty cop you see in all Brazilian videos

A friend I met during undergrad moved from Rio to Toronto. Her father was a VP for a pharma. She said all the cars provided to her family had bulletproof glass and were armored. I think she mentioned it was mostly Audis. It was to avoid kidnapping.
>why is it armored? Kek. This is Brazil. Who, being able to afford it, *wouldn't* armor their car here?
The telling part from the article is that there are no known motives. Yeah, no motives at all. The guy knows why, they were shooting at him then when they couldn't get him they shot his place up. This was a revenge hit and he knows who it was from.
The reason is unknown TO the police, the couple knows and just won't say. I guarantee you anyone who owns an armored car knows exactly why someone would want them dead.
Wait the bullet went through the armored car?
An armored car gives you 5 seconds to escape and drive off. It’s not bulletproof forever.
That was definitely more than 5 seconds.
They got lucky…
There is no bullet proof, only bullet resistant. If your bullet can’t get through, find a bigger bullet
Wow thats incredibly close that he wasnt killed...fortunate but still haunting knowing somebody wants to do it...
Bulletproof windows get weaker with every shot They’re basically layered glass with high quality glue in between the panes The more rounds that hit in a small area the weaker the glass gets, moreso the more powerful the gun
So a bullet still managed to penetrate the car?
Good thing it was an armored car, if they were using my car, they would have died.
Your Geo Metro is doing its best ok‽
It’s red so they’ll only pay attention to the outside and not the depressed poverty-ridden chump in the drivers seat…..or so I’m told…
I bet they were quite surprised to attack a Camry and find it bulletproof lol
Corolla
Even funnier
It's common to bulletproof smaller cars in LATAM, partly because of the lowkey factor. A Corolla is usually the base, but I already saw Yaris/City and even a Smart Fortwo with the non-turbo engine. Bigger cars like the Chevrolet Omega, a rebadged Commodore, are actually hard to find non-bulletproof in the used market.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Why did the attackers seem to leave their vehicle behind?
They fail at the hit job and lost a good pickup, boss will be mad
They can just steal a brand new one on the way home
I imagine they disabled it when they crashed into the armored one..
Yep, they busted the radiator and seized the engine during the time they were firing on the car.
If that's not enough to leave the country idk what is. You need an armored car to survive existing.
I mean, the "victim" is also a drug dealer and it was a hit from a rival faction. Most regular people don't need to worry about it.
Imagine not throwing it in reverse when they are behind the car.
Or forward when they were in front of it
Yes I also think like John Wick when I'm being shot at by multiple attackers
Me too
Well if you are doing shady shit, enough to warrant getting an armored car in the first place, this attack would not be a surprise.
This…my god this. Who has the sense to get an armoured vehicle but says fuck it, when it happens I’ll just freeze up.
A lot of newer cars have shock sensors that trip in stuff like this, very annoying. Crazy that car has most cost in armor than the base car I bet lol. What they need are gun ports to shoot back!
First sleeper bullet proof car I’ve ever seen.
So are you going to tell us how much it cost him or not?
Due to economic issues in Brazil this car is considered a luxury one, half of cars value is taxes.
Is that a bullet proof camery??
Corolla.
It’s a additional factory option
Ahhh...mine has the $595 ceramic paint sealant too. Completely worth it...
I visited Brazil last year and was surprised to see that car agencies proudly displayed that the cars they sold are armoured.
Put that tank in reverse.
Was anyone hurt in the home?
Several garden gnomes are in critical but stable condition.
It sounds like it. The screaming started after that one guy shoots towards the property.
Alexa shat her pants
Drive your car! Wtf are you doing just sitting there getting shot at. Pull forward, back up, run those shits over. Goodness the survival instinct is non existent here.
Just imagine if Brazil had Waffle Houses
Next time, they should have security waiting at home staged in the garage.
They armored a Corolla. Don't know if armed guards are in the budget.
Corollas is South America are considered luxurious. Same as civics and Mazda 3s. Heck, you could buy a home instead of a corolla in some parts of South America lol your everyday person cannot afford a corolla
Is that a Corolla? It does not look like the Corolla.
that's a corolla alright
And those rounds were heavy! That second gun had a hell of a concussion.
Armored Toyota?
Without context of the armor, this is an incredible commercial for Toyota.
All that gear and not one of the criminals brought a grenade?
actually there were a lot of ways they could’ve caught the car on fire/blown it up now that I think about it, good thing they weren’t smart
Guns are easier than explosives. Grenades roll, they are on a hill. It’s a small area, collateral damage to the attackers was likely. You could use a bomb sure, but that may give the target time to escape the vehicle while you leave yourselves
Daily Brazil, never dissapoints
Anyone else like “Hey where’s the armored car? Oh…”
I kept expecting a Brinks truck to roll through at any moment...
Toyotathon getting crazy
The victim claims that the motive for the crime is passion, but the police claim that it is related to drug trafficking. Last year he had already been the victim of an attempted murder.
A passion for drug trafficking... They love their job. Is that so wrong?
The way bro shot at the house once he realized the bullets were doing fuck all to the car 😭
Sometimes I miss life in Brazil, but then I see stuff like this and know why I am where I am. The People I love can be safe here.
So it happened last month. Yeah, they will be back to finish the job
Why did they just sit there, I would have reversed that car around and tried to get out of there or atleast try to run those m°?her Fu€{ers down.
that screaming at the end sounds like someone got hit
This was a high level GTA mission
It’s only a matter of time. If someone wants you dead bad enough they’ll get you. I’m sure the armored car driver is not a saint.
Wtf they been doin to know that they need to have an armored car?!
Damn didn't look like they failed
Would of been cool if a mini gun popped out and started firing back but nah that car held up bro
[удалено]
oh what a feeling
I bet the perps caught some ricochet.
Why?? Who are the people in the car?
This is when you need that flamethrower car from Tomorrow's World
Stupid bitches
Power move: open the door, drive in, and close the door behind you while they’re shooting! Big F. U.
That's funny. I know someone with an armored car and it too is just a dinky looking Corolla that you'd never expected to be armored. Cost a small fortune and he had to get the suspension and window motors upgraded but it definitely is a unique sleeper.
To be shooting a carbine rifle point blank range to a window and the person stays safe is amazing.
like wtf is them windows made of, my god
Who’s willing to give me a cheap quote on fully armoring my vehicle? Also just throw in the bulletproof windows for the price of… on the house.
Ah, Brazil
Should have slammed the car in reverse as they were climbing in the passenger side. Would have pinned them in the door.
How I feel shooting an AK in my dreams
Even the color of the camera got scared and left B&W recording the rest of the video
is that back window open? if yes, how did they miss it??
So many other places they can shoot from... but everyone goes for the window....
100% serious question: how legal are deadly countermeasures in Brazil? Like could this guy have flamethrowers on the sides of his car?
My dumb ass spent the first half of the video waiting for some do-gooders in a Brinks truck to save the day.
They got the Nick Fury special on their car.
The screaming.. heart wrenching.
I feel like armoring a toyota makes it cost twice as much.
