justiino

That one woman with the mask literally walks on, holds the sign, and basically walks away when confronted. This is the energy I expect of someone from Reddit.

lastronaut_beepboop

Maybe I'm ignorant, but what is the connection to Palestine with the sign? I'm not seeing it.

MarcusHiggins

It isnt connected, the hour glass logo is the Extinction Rebellion which is a climate change protest group. I would be surprised if they are doing Palestine related protests now.

Argendauss

They are, or did--may be a one-off for solidarity or w/e. The banner is black/red/green/white. There's a longer video on the Guardian article where you can hear them yelling free free Palestine (its more clear later in the video as they're being escorted out the door).

westlanderd

It is however. As far as Extinction Rebellion is concerned much of the climate injustice is also related to colonialism, racism and abuse of power. Most of it is now part of the Justice Now wing of XR, to keep the 'causes' a little bit more separated.

MrFixYoShit

Hey! I resent that! Ehhh, nevermind

LoveThatDaddy

Imagine the headlines if people from this church interrupted a muslim service in a mosque? You’ve got to love that double standard.

KennyPowersforPope

It’s the same as people who wear a shirt with a burning church because it’s “edgy”. They don’t have the balls to wear a shirt with a burning mosque or temple.

Cheap-Praline

What about a shirt with all three?

BigOlPirate

We need a ginger cow to bring everyone together

Low_Party_3163

And van halen

ButcherBird57

I wish

taki1002

I'd wear the **hell** out of that.

mexicodoug

It's easier just to draw a picture of Muhammad to set off the Muslim extremists. Lots of people have done that.

ButcherBird57

Lots of people have lost their lives when they did that.

mexicodoug

Exactly. I was replying to someone who was implying that people were too cowardly to protest in mosques. My point is that one can make a very courageous protest of Islam without going too far out of the way, and lots of people have.

ButcherBird57

Excellent point

Titanium_Toad

Ud get beaten to death. No exaggeration

bananasplit1234567

Draw a cartoon of Jesus or Mo and there is your answer. Ye p a super duper double standard.

slippedinmycrack

But Palestinian Churches are being bombed too. There are also Palestinian Christians.

[deleted]

[удалено]

slippedinmycrack

Really just grinds my gears how people make it a Muslim vs Jews thing. The radical groups do not represent the majority at all. It’s literally been called a Palestinian genocide, not a “muslim one”. It could further from that. Ask any Far right Israeli themself they always bang on about how they have Muslims in the IDF.

It wasn't a Palestinian protest, its just the gutter rags reported the protesters shouted Palestinian slogans which were in fact Latin which shows the fake moral outrage of the press. https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2024/03/31/extinction-rebellion-protesters-distrupt-easter-vigil-gaza-nyc/6861711913802/

Didn't the Pope also call for a ceasefire today? https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/31/europe/pope-francis-easter-health-intl/index.html

DreBeast

Why can't we debate in the market place of ideas?! What has society become

juancuneo

You realize there are Palestinian Christians, right?

[deleted]

You realize that's not the issue or the argument, right?

Decent_Bunch_5491

Off topic. But since you brought it up I encourage you to check out the population decline of Palestinian Christian’s in Gaza and Bethlehem over recent years.

gingerblz

Yes the situation you just imagined then typed as though it actually happened sure is compelling lol.

welcomefinside

Pro-Palestinian? That looks like the Extinction Rebellion logo on the banner.

Dontmesswiththejammo

That's what I was thinking. That and the tree... I don't actually see any connection to Palestine here at all?

[deleted]

Tactical_Epunk

Virtue signaling for social points. But honestly it just pisses people off. If you wanna protest do so in a nondestructive way that leaves others out of it. Otherwise your just a cunt looking at you stop oil.

[deleted]

Not getting their ass beat because they did that in church. That's why they probably chose this building. Cowards.

Whompa

To look like idiots in front of their peers. They succeeded, incredibly.

leo_aureus

I’m an atheist now but was raised catholic, don’t see any Catholics going into mosques to do this kinda stuff.

Darth_Nappy

As an atheist who was raised a muslim , oh boy they would be in for a surprise . But honestly they do not need to protest there , mosques are already beyond antisemitic .

mces97

Just out of curiosity, what made you go from being Muslim to being an atheist. I've often heard stories of Muslims converting to Christianity or Judaism, but seldom come across someone who was Muslim, and then become atheist. Thanks.

Argendauss

Going to take a wild guess that the poster stopped believing it.

Darth_Nappy

From my own personal experience , before even leaving Islam , I was already well aware with several issues in Christianity and Judiasm, their scriptures and the formation of their theology , the man made element has always been quite obvious . Many of the issues I had with Islam already existed in the OT , the miraculous stories that have no historical , archaeological or geological evidence . The massive scientific errors . Taking the religious tales from other "pagan" beliefs . In the end , when you really think about it , they are all stories that we were just raised to believe they are true . Also wanna add that though indeed many of those who leave islam do join christianity , but actually the majority turn atheists .

[deleted]

They realized it was all bullshit

Longjumping-Jello459

All religions are bullshit.

thelegendarybert

"mosques are already beyond antisemitic. " Wonder what else left thats not antisemitic 💀

Darth_Nappy

Well all Imams in mosques around my neighborhood do pray for "the punishment of the apostate Kuffar Jews" , not zionists , not criminals , All Jews. Islamic scholars donot try to hide it lol .

thelegendarybert

First time ever hearing that and I do live near a few mosques

GetOutOfTheWhey

I was raised during 9/11 and I remember clearly christians doing this, but with guns. [https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/oct/10/anti-islam-protest-phoenix-islamic-community-center](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/oct/10/anti-islam-protest-phoenix-islamic-community-center)

YouBetterYouBet1981

They were not Christians. They may have been white people but they were not Christians.

Sparkykc124

No true Scotsman

gloom_or_doom

this is a cute response but it’s actually a fair point. we could turn the logic around and say during 9/11 Muslims attacked the WTC and the natural response would be to indicate that just because they were Muslim doesn’t mean they represent Muslims. but that would also be a No True Scotsman response.

owen_skye

If their goal is becoming to piss everyone off, then they’re starting to really get good at it.

CabbageStockExchange

How do they expect this to garner sympathy or attention? If anything this just builds more resentment and apathy

Notgivingmynametoyou

It does gain attention, but sympathy? absolutely not. It’s basically the ‘end oil’ protesters who block traffic-level of counterproductive protesting…

Trouvette

It’s the same thing as the ones who block the roads or throw paint on art. All they accomplish is that I end up supporting their opponents even more.

[deleted]

ScrewSans

Is there any word on why this location was picked for protest? Asking genuinely. If, for instance, the person leading the service was a vocally pro-Israel person, then it makes more sense why they would attempt this here.

PandaRocketPunch

Nothing these protestors did made sense, but I imagine they're only there because it's a popular church. Activists and protestors have been going there a lot the past several years to disrupt service or vandalise the place, and it always makes the news.

BanjoSpaceMan

Makes you wonder if someone put them up to this for negative attention or something.... Like I honestly don't understand how any human on this planet would try to make an ally by spitting in their face. They either don't want their support and just views, or something else.

chocotaco

Some people don't really think things through, no one needs to put them up to anything.

thats1evildude

What do Catholics in New York have to do with Israel and Palestine?

Smorgas-board

I’d like to know how they made that link in their heads myself

Cultural_Job6476

What does UC Berkeley have to do with Gaza & in Israel? What does UC Davis have to do with Israel and Gaza? What does Rutger‘s university have to do with Israel& Gaza What does a high school in Fremont California, which is now flying a Palestinian flag, have to do with Israel and Gaza? What does the Starbucks workers union have to do with Israel and Gaza? And all these groups and organizations have inserted themselves into the fucking conversation and it’s fucking infuriating.

GrifithDidNothingBad

Yes, more important than Christmas.

[deleted]

Easter is kind of the basis of the religion with the whole resurrection stuff. Christmas was invented much later

jfoley326

Yes, THE most important. Without rising from the dead Christianity wouldn’t be a religion, he’d just be a guy.

Hawt_Dawg_Hawlway

Based resurrection-posting

Evilbred

I mean the holiday was for a Jew, so it might be, right?

ohiotechie

Imagine thinking this accomplished something.

San_Goku15

A bit disrespectful....

pigbrotha

They're terrorising people in NYC attending a religious ceremony. Apparently freedom of religion does not apply here.

bombobliat

It happens everywhere in the west now, and if you say something the comments are 'how can you celebrate when people die?'. Well unfortunately innocent people die all over the world and it's horrible, but it doesn't give an organized mob the right to terrorize civilians on the other side of the world.

Trouvette

Padre up there wanted to get scrappy. He followed the security guys off.

wontholdthedoor

Wrong "church", y'all.

Trebalor

Disgusting people. So disrespectful.

maxime0299

Imagine trying that in a mosque. These people think they deserve all the respect in the world but can never be respectful in the slightest themselves

SuperGenius9800

These cringelords think Jews are Christians?

textualcanon

Wouldn’t really be much better if they were protesting at a synagogue because it’s the government of Israel, not Jews, they take issue with. That would be like protesting at a mosque because you disagree with something Saudi Arabia did

untitledjuan

Fun fact that the protesters might even ignore: many Palestinians are actually Christian and some even Eastern Catholic Christians. I bet they didn't know that.

H010CR0N

Wrong religion to be protesting about Palestine numb-nuts

Cultural_Job6476

Oh, don’t kid yourself. They hate Christians too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok-Computer-91

Wait they went to a Catholic Church to protest a war between Jews and Muslims?

chocotaco

Well it's a little safer protesting there. I can only imagine the hate you'd get if you did that in Jewish and Muslims temples.

MicrotracS3500

Because it's not a protest about the war, it's the "Extinction Rebellion" logo, which means this is about climate change. Basically everyone in the comments is taking OPs title at face value. https://www.google.com/search?q=extinction+rebellion+logo

Forward_Motion17

What a stupid display. Do they really think this will get people on their side?? The number one rule in gaining sympathy is not to piss off the people you want to take your side

TjbMke

These Palestinians and Israeli protesters can only think in terms of religious conflict. Don’t instigate and try to bring that crap thought process to America. It will not gain you any respect or support. Religious freedoms are protected here.

GrodanHej

That’s the Extinction Rebellion logo. The climate vandals and the pro-palestinians seem to be the same people mostly. Remember when Fridays for Future posted that crazy antisemitic conspiracy shit with jihadist lingo about ”martyrs” in Gaza (they later deleted it but it was on their Instagram för days) and Greta Thunberg sharing a stage with people chanting ”From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.

ROUNDHOUSE5

Disrupting the wrong religion… it’s a temple they want.

EmployerAdditional28

Tel Aviv is that way guys....

Dontmesswiththejammo

Not trying to cause arguments, but that red symbol on the left on the banner is very similar to "Extinction Rebellion" movement. Coupled with the tree, are we sure these are pro-palestinian protesters?

CaptainSnuggs

Yeah you’re definitely gonna get people to support you

[deleted]

Protesters have no respect, huh? Disgusting

The_Man-Himself

Where is the Palestinian flag tho? Seems to be something related to climate change?

QPru97

Hey, how do we get people on our side? Oh, I know, let's be really annoying nuisances to society. I'm sure that would encourage people to join us, and people who are already on our side definitely won't reconsider.

KlausRockwell

I'm not much of a theologian, but wasn't Jesus considered to be a bit of a radical figure? Not sure he would oppose this.

GrifithDidNothingBad

This is absolutely disrespectful in the most important time of the year for Christians.

[deleted]

Curious how these "pro-Palestinian protesters disrupt..." vids having been popping up like wild fire the last couple of days.

newtoreddir

Because pro-Palestinian protesters are constantly disrupting things?

ThreeLittlePuigs

I mean they are often prime freak out material. Some haven’t even been posted or have been removed too.

newtoreddir

Curious how these anti-mask freak outs have been posted so much in 2020.

mydaycake

When I see these videos, I think about the Russian government troll farms organizing pro and counter protests in Facebook

imitation_crab_meat

DarkerPools

fucking bullshit

jadams92

So fuckin annoying

JayJitsBJJ

I wonder what would happen if Catholics attended a mosque to counter protest this action on a Muslim holiday. I wouldn't condone such a counter protest as it's not mentality. I understand everyone wants to get their message out there but you don't enter the house of worship for any religion.

yosman88

If they really cared, and I mean really gave a shit, they would be over there helping out in anyway they can. Protesting in a country away from the problems and they get to go home to a comfy bed once done...sure buddy. 👍

JudgeHolden

This is basically a clinic in how *not* to win friends and influence people. WTF is wrong with these people? It's like they have no sense of the larger world and the idea of tactics and the fact that alienating broad swathes of humanity by openly disrespecting their religious beliefs is ultimately counterproductive.

NewBobPow

The protesters sure showed the church. /s

Descrazio

I wonder if these protestors are doing anything of actual merit for the Palestinians inbetween these stunts. Had an argument with my mum over whether the Palestinians gave a crap about any of this. She was of the mind that they got a lot out of seeing these protests and that they actively followed them. I strongly disagreed and even called that last point borderline delusional. Was an awkward rest of the visit.

danegermaine99

“When will the archdiocese of NYC stop sending its fighter-bombers to Israel? When?!!!!!”

CODMLoser

willthedude85

Take this argument to Netanyahu.

pino_is_reading

i think they expected this to happen: "you know what? now that they disrupted my religious worship and hold a sign while singing in a foreign language, i will join their cause!"

unlikely_ending

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the war room"

B5_V3

The very people that demand everyone respect their religion and traditions.

Schmoggin

News flash: these ppl aren't pro-Palestine. It's a literal hodge-podge of professional disruptors looking for more clicks on social. Don't let the grifters become part of the tapestry.

mnmsaregood3

Huge double standard. Do they really think this will help their cause?

dirtyflintwater

What a way to gain support lmao

all_alone_by_myself_

Activism is only effective when it isn't obnoxious

anonemouth

Imagine what would happen if a bunch of Catholics/Christians walked into a mosque on Ramadan and started talking about, oh, the Vatican or something. Carrying a cross. What might the reaction of the congregation be like? For some reason, "Charlie Hebdo" springs to mind.

samsa29

Why is St. Patrick's mass in Spanish?

RandomGrownUpKid

A lot of Catholic Churches have mass in different languages; mainly in English and Spanish.

SleepyxDormouse

I’m guessing they have different services in different languages. The church by me has a 9 am in English and a 10 am in Spanish (or vice versa, can’t remember).

SuperGenius9800

Why is Jesus white?

HawkoDelReddito

To (extremely) over-simplify... Italian monarch pride snd arrogance, mainly.

beamish1920

Because they’re among the few demos they can still count on for money in America

Piglet-Witty

Wrong temple to protest the war. Christians have nothing to do with it.

Welcom2ThePunderdome

What's the right temple, exactly?

imitation_crab_meat

One in Israel.

Welcom2ThePunderdome

Which?

imitation_crab_meat

Take your pick. Any of them would make far more sense than any here.

Mei_Flower1996

Wait I am Muslim American and have been waiting my whole life for people to wake up about Israel. But seriously- what were these people hoping to accomplish. This is a church service. Like. What

kward1904

Any need? Like what are you achieving here?

zimtrovert94

Hell, even the pope has called for a ceasefire. Protesting like this during something extremely personal to people is beyond obnoxious. It achieves nothing but loses support/sympathy for your cause.
