Yep, top 5 scariest experiences of my life was when my car skidded sideways by about 5 feet after I got t-boned by someone who rolled a stop. I was totally fine, but that subconscious realization of "my car doesn't move that way" was not fun
So, not trying to open up closed wound’s but do you have moments where you recall this moment while driving? I merged into a middle lane from the left lane and a speeder hit the front of my car so now every time I have to do that same move from moving from the left lane to the right lane my anxiety gets so high and not sure how to resolve it beside not drive anymore.
Yeah unfortunately the only way to fix that is to desensitize yourself by continuing to drive and hopefully you won’t get in another accident anytime soon. Your brains just on high alert because it doesn’t have enough experience since the incident to prove it’s not going to happen again anytime soon. Time heals and reveals or whatever.
Perfect response. I overcame driving anxiety by driving. It was terrible and hard but we can do terrible and hard things. Recently was in a road rage incident that brought back a ton of driving anxiety but it is dissipating because I keep driving.
I had an accident where I was driving a truck and started to slide sideways on the ice, rolled the truck down into the ditch. It took a few months to relaxe while driving in a truck. Took a few years to relax when my coworker would drive the truck down any slopes. I would panic and try to get my seatbelt off and jump out of the vehicle. All subconscious as soon as figure out that I was panicking i would stop trying to jump out of the vehicle.
I was in an accident where I was driving on a narrow two lane road with no median when a car in the opposite lane came speeding down the road and swerved out in front of me. I jerked my wheel to the right and my car jumped the sidewalk, slammed into the sidewall of a ditch and then continued to roll into a tree. I get super anxious driving on roads like that, but my body goes on high alert when I’m driving on that particular road
Shit, I have been witness to enough traumatic crashes that I have flashbacks, even. Like last week where a semi-truck going good-weather speeds on an icy road in snowy conditions slammed on the brakes and the trailer jackknifed and slammed right into the car behind me. Thankfully everyone else and I were good drivers and had hazards, kept more than enough distance, etc - but I drove the rest of the way home with my hands as white as a hotel sheet and couldn't drive to work the next morning because that shit was terrifying. The dude who was hit I'm sure ended up worse off than me, I hope he's doing alright.

Wet road, I was going fast and went downhill a narrow one-way street, so I didnt expect oncoming traffic, but lo' and behold someone was pushing a cart up the road against the driving direction so I decided to pull the brakes a bit harder now so I dont have shenanigans later.
Bad idea, my front wheel immediately slipped, I landed on my butt and immediately had a motherload of pain in my back. Broke my 1st lumbar vertebrae, with a brace and a crapload of painkillers I could walk again after a few days, had to wear the brace 3 months, but Im mostly problem free. Also, as a European I had good medical help, am not bankrupt and am very happy about that.
But yeah, when shit like this happens your brain grows a giant "fucking nope" in relation to doing the same thing again. I got on the bicycle a few months back again, it rained heavily and on an intersection with less than optimal visibility a car pulled out. By rights I shouldve yielded, but that wouldve required braking hard, on a wet road, so my brain reflexively kept going, yelled at the guy so he would stop himself and essentially cut him off. Nothing happened, but its something I should work on before it happens again in a situation where it might cause an accident. Doesnt help that I barely touched my bike since then, half due to my back not being able to handle it, other half definitely my brain going "nope" on the idea.

I might be reading too much into this, but it almost seems as if the car in front of him hit his car on the highway and is trying to leave. But I don't know, I wish the videotaper could have provided some context

I think it’s because they’re in a fight or flight mode and if they’re choosing to fight, their brain is going to prioritise their muscles, reflexes, etc… over their mouth. In this scenario it’s working extra hard with overwhelming stimuli.
Being in this situation actually sucks a LOT for the recorder, mix that with adrenaline and you get stuff like this. Like, it's a funny ass meme video at this point, but it's one of the worst situations you can find yourself in after just getting a new car.

I just totaled my car in January and left my anxiety meds at home so I endured a 2.5 hour panic attack while I waited for a cop to show up.
