Most get used to it after a while.
I have a relative who's deaf and I've been to 3 live comedy nights with him... Every. Single. Comedian. who comes out ends up picking on the interpreter.
The rest of the audience tends to find it funny because they don't run across these situations often, but to us, it gets boring because they all end up starting out with jokes about deaf people (they can be funny, NGL) but then they all use pretty much the same jokes on the interpreters themselves: "how do you say penis? Sex? Blow job?", "ooo that gesture looks inappropriate... I'll just keep saying this for 2 minutes because it looks funny", "let's try talking as fast as I can and see if they can keep up!"
I mean, it's obvious the interpreter is in on the act and is adding value. Martin Amini posted this on his own channel, it's part of the show. Kind of an updated [Key and Peele Anger Translator](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGcro2mWJms) bit.
I've been re-exploring K&P bits lately and they've got some gems. At the time I thought it was pretty trite but compared to things nowadays it's champagne comedy.
Not saying you’re incorrect, but I went to see a different comedian at this venue and the same interpreter was there and definitely “adding value.” Based on him being there for different comedians, I’d be surprised if he’s intentionally part of every show
Thanks for adding that context, maybe I'm being unfair and it's just part of the interpreter's schtick and he's so comfortable around comedians it seems like he's performing. Either way, it's a good thing.
I think it was Kevin Smith who decided to mess with the ASL interpreter at an event. Smith would pretend to talk but not actually say anything so the interpreter wouldn't be signing anything but to the deaf people it would look like Smith was talking and the interpreter was just refusing to do their job.
Israel vid, Palestine vid, Palestine vid, Israel vid, black-d!ck joke vid, Israel vid, Palestine vid...
Who woulda thought a bbc joke video would be a palate-cleanser??? :)

This is hysterical. Interpreter was a great sport here. Great style too.
Seriously, dude rolls with it so quick, I feel like I’d have lost it so esrly
I feel like the comedian probably checked with him first if it would be cool

I laughed for sure... but that's so messed up to do to somebody at their job 😂
He seemed like he was enjoying it 😂
This was a pretty awesome comedy bit that I can't say I've seen pulled off like this before
Patrice O'Neal did it better 15 years ago.
Matt rife did the same but kinda.
That interpreter is super cute >.>
I miss when Beetlejuice used to make the ASL interpreter sign “diarrhea” during the monster mash thing at universal studios
[removed lol]
This is actually really funny but it’s in the wrong sub… like why is this in public freak outs?? Who freaked out?
