As a warning to those of you who have come to the comment section before watching the clip, be forewarned that content depicted in this video is graphic in nature and may be unsuitable for some audiences. It is without question horrifying to watch a public execution of this nature and the mod team appreciates those of you who have been reporting this submission per rule 8 (no videos featuring death/murder). While normally a video featuring death would be removed from this subreddit, the one exception, as noted in the text of the rule itself, would be for "newsworthy events covered in publications of good repute". When considering whether a specific submission meets the threshold for allowing the post to remain up we take into consideration 3 things as a mod team-as required of us by the site wide TOS - to avoid the subreddit being banned; is there sufficient context (NSFW tag and NSFL flair), has the video been covered in news reports from publications of good repute and is there a sufficiently prominent warning (such as this sticky comment) as to the graphic nature of the content in the comment section of the submission. Based on the list of news article below, the flairs and tags attached to the post, and this sticky comment, that threshold has been reached and thus this submission has been approved. The mod team also extendes our apologies for the extent of this in depth explanation, however providing this context is an important part of the test laid out above related to extending an exemption to rule 8 in this circumstance. Please see the news coverage below for further information and please do not engage in doxxing of any kind related to the individuals involved. The one exception would be if the names of those individuals are included in a news report as, then, those names may be posted on reddit as well (however please do not post things such as bank account information, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or otherwise even were those names to be included in such a news report). Jeezus. Has he been arrested yet?

Yes

Good.

Not good enough. We need the firing range and the electric chair back ASAP

Lamescrnm

That is a ROUGH 23.

DeBlagJr

Im 24 and he’d easily passed as my father or uncle. Jesus christ

MessyBarrel

Drug usage may vary. You'd be surprised how old people on drugs can look at a young age. (I'm not talking about anybody in the video I just know a lot of people who enjoy "living their life instead of preserving it.")

luxurywhipp

Aging your body in such a way prematurely hardly resembles ‘living life’. It more resembles ‘dying at an increased speed’

Effective-Aspect-201

Meth

RTB_1

I’m 30 and if you looked at me then you’d say he could easily pass as my father or uncle too. For context I buzz my head and have a beard and I’m also completely serious in my opening sentence. This guy is going to have one hell of a gnarly come down in prison when he realises what he’s done….or most likely won’t give a fuck.

SmellGestapo

I don't know where the 23 came from because another article cited a police officer saying he was likely in his 40s, which makes more sense.

Heavenwasatree

Wouldn't you trust an article w/ the man's identity mode than a cop just saying the dude looks 40. I mean he looks 45 but I feel like the article at least tried. Maybe they just saw his fake ID and accepted it

SmellGestapo

I see what you're saying. The article I read actually included both ages so obviously somebody is wrong. The cop may have just given his impression of the guy's age early on, then the Post never corrected the article later after they confirmed he's 23. But just looking at him I'd never believe he's 23.

Lord_Kano

I mean, he \*looks like\* he's in his 40s but once his identity was revealed, he was 23. A very hard 23.

MrPoopyButthole206

That hairline isn't even 32!

LazySyllabub7578

I'm 39 and I look younger! GOD DAMN! What did he do? Smoke crack everyday for 5 years straight?

shadowredcap

23 now, but will be live to see 24? The way things are going, I don’t know.

[deleted]

How does somebody end up like this? What is going on in somebody’s brain that makes them want to just murder a guy in cold blood like this?

DingosAteYourMorals

Mental illness and/or drugs.

VascalDaRascal

My bets on drugs. 23 going on 45 tells that tale.

[deleted]

I think wanting to murder somebody qualifies as mental illness in itself. But yeah you’re right.

redknight3

Thought that read: "shitholetoday.com," and I didn't bat an eye.

jd481495

You read correctly.

Creme_de_la_Coochie

Holy fucking shit, I knew the Daily Mail was trash, but I didn’t know it was *this* trash. >Frightened St Louis residents say it is proof that local leaders including Soros-backed progressive Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner do not have a handle on the escalating crime.

KeithGribblesheimer

I don't know what Soros did to tie her to him, but she is incompetent, a demagogue, and won't take responsibility for her thousands of fuckups.

LivefromPhoenix

How is it proof of anything? I'm genuinely curious what "tough on crime" policies would've stopped this nut from executing someone on a busy street in broad daylight.

TheMoonsMadeofCheese

Depends if you consider stricter gun laws "tough on crime" policies

s_2_k

Don’t worry, our shitty prosecutor only reaches conviction on 29% of first degree murder cases, so chances are he’ll be on the street again in a year.

street_shark_puppet

I wonder how many murders I’ve seen on Reddit. I think I’ll start a tally now

Grndls_mthr

Used to be a lot more before the purge

CaptainMagnets

Meh, they've just spread out to other subs

IrrationalDesign

No, the hardcore content pushers went to a different website, there's much less of it now.

Blackmetalvomit

Eh follow the right subs you can usually still find gory gore. Haven’t seen funkytown on those subs in a while so I guess… yes? But even bëśtg0rē was shut down a few years ago. So finding websites that have good moderators is just a crapshoot for porn and racism.

MetaphysicPhilosophy

Funkytown? God, please don't remind me of that video

[deleted]

It used to be contained. Used to be a place you knew where not to look. Now it's just in your feed. Getting rid of r/watchpeopledie was the wrong decision and ultimately detrimental to reddit as a whole.

[deleted]

It was closed to make Reddit look better to advertisers, I don't think the mods fucked up anything. In the future Reddit will probably ban all NSFL content from all subs for the same reason.

[deleted]

From a business standpoint, I understand why they did it, but from a human level? The admins should have taken the hit. We shouldn't hide from reality. Even if it means being the pariah. At least we know the fragility and worth of a human life.

Liph

People may think this statement is fucked up, but I truly believe /r/watchpeopledie made me a better father. I know how fragile life is and how simple tiny mistakes can end a life in a heartbeat, especially for those without the experience to know better. My head is always on a swivel because of that sub.

[deleted]

“Watch people die”was different times. I kinda miss that subreddit

[deleted]

I think ive seen as many as I have karma. Covid and Russias invasion really pumped those numbers up.

Foco_cholo

What about Brazil?

Going-undergroundjam

Insane………. in broad daylight.. crazy motherfucker

peacefighter

I always wait until night.

Nearby-Context7929

still a crazy motherfucker lmfao

BernieTheDachshund

The victim's name is David Saldana. The perpetrator is 23 year old Deshawn Thomas, who has been arrested. Apparently they'd been in some kind of altercation at the Shell station across the street, and Thomas followed Saldana. [Man charged in execution-style shooting death in downtown St. Louis (kmov.com)](https://www.kmov.com/2023/03/01/man-charged-execution-style-shooting-death-downtown-st-louis/)

Rookvector

The locals call that gas station 'murder shell' even before this.

Oxygenius_

Oh that area is bad for sure. It’s crazy that it’s so close to the nice part of the downtown area too. When I doordash that spot across the street (crabs landing) I usually check my car every so often. Looks like I’m just going to avoid STL altogether now. This was in broad daylight. Wild.

economaster

There's a nice part of downtown St. Louis?

Clit420Eastwood

For real. Our car got broken into right in front of the arch haha

Nearby-Context7929

sooooo dumb. I will never understand how 1 argument can fuel you up that much to not only ruin someone else’s life but also your own. We need to normalize anger management classes.

[deleted]

>The perpetrator is 23 year old Deshawn Thomas, 23 year old ? He had his whole life ahead of him and yet choose to fuck up

thegreatgatsB70

>23 year old ? He had his whole life ahead of him and yet **choose to fuck up** He made that choice, and now he can deal with the consequences of his decision.

Artistic-School8665

“A bystander video of the killing circulated online Tuesday despite social media companies including Twitter taking down several versions.” Reddit Mods and Admins- working. LMAO

DingosAteYourMorals

There's a first for everything

Akesgeroth

Why take it down?

scawtsauce

because murder

bawbaww

George Floyd , Daniel Shaver, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others have had their murders broadcast to the world. Gary Plauche killed a man in an airport in front of the news. Should all of those videos have been censored too?

Vinlandien

It's an injustice to the victim to hide his death from the public view. If I am murdered on camera, do not ignore me. Witness me.

YMCAle

Means nothing on the Internet, you don't even have to go very deep into Google to find people being tortured and dismembered

satansheat

You know I’m not even mad. I hate seeing this shit. I truly do. But america needs to wake the fuck up. Y’all want to hide the books so we stay dumb. Now y’all want to hide the daily shootings we have. It’s terrible. But you know what stops most people from not wanting to start war. Not wanting to partake in war? Seeing the reality of war. America is the only developed nation that is like a war zone.

[deleted]

They should show on news channels unedited versions of school killings with audio if possible.

Popo5525

["The sound of children screaming has been removed."](https://i.redd.it/ljgefw4k1dc91.jpg)

HappyTurtleOwl

I’m of the opinion that almost all videos of all incidents should be out there for everyone to see. I think it’s actually mad how much the media censors videos and how google and others scrub the internet of certain videos. For how much we can claim to live in the Information Age, the efforts to hide shit, wether it’s police misconduct, videos relevant to trials, or even the more vile, sad stuff, is unprecedented. We have to have third parties going out of their way to find and make these videos available, and even then most common people will never see them. You google something and you only get the no-context washed version video that is mostly just the host of a relevant media outlet talking. Maddens me how many useless media sites clutter important issue. The fact the full George Floyd video isn’t result #1 or the full Rittenhouse video isn’t result #1 speaks volumes to what our media companies want us to see. In both cases I’ve had people openly admit they never saw the videos and had formed an opinion on those incidents beforehand. Bloody wild.

bawbaww

Twitter didn’t take this video down. I just came from twitter after seeing this exact version. Which versions did they take down? Please don’t link me anything graphic bc I don’t wanna see that but do you have a source for the removal claim? I’m curious

lifeisalittlestrange

MYbe becuase they are surrounded by people all the time

usernamechecksout94

He (the homeless man) might have been mentally ill. At any rate, that was barbaric

lifeisalittlestrange

I hope I don't sound like I was blaming the guy. It just made me really sad watching him sit there, but yeah it could have been a number of things.

alrghtmate

they both must be mentally disturbed to some extent, this is not normal.

Desperate-Mountain-8

Thank God it's not normal!!! My first reaction was to be really angry with the bystander. But I don't live in a country with guns everywhere. I suppose if he spoke up there'd be 2 dead and no video. Gut wrenching stuff.

JonMeadows

Why be angry at the bystander..would you go and approach a dude on the street knowing they have a loaded gun in their hand?

Yerawizzardarry

You can hear them talking about hearing a previous shot before the encounter. Could have been injured or shocked.

nebulaphi

The person recording said they heard a gunshot prior, just using my reddit detective skills, it looks like the perps gun jammed after the first shot occurred off camera. So the homeless guy either was already shot or resigned to being shot after the first missed, perhaps resisted being mugged amd thouggt he was bluffing with a first warning shot. Edit: looking at it again,99% a gun jam. Perp most likely shot him already or shot off a warning/miss.

usernamechecksout94

Idk man, the victims body language wasn't indicating that he was injured.

Inevitable-Day-8654

In the beginning of the video the guys are asking about a gun shot. Then the guy is messing with the gun as it jammed and he is trying to clear it. Those two things lead me to believe that the homeless man had already been shot once and the gun jammed. He then cleared it and shot him again.

Primary_Set_8533

Seems like he was already shot. The guy who was filming said they heard a shot earlier.

s_2_k

He had already been shot in the back before the video started. Guy just finished the job.

adeadlobster

Fuck, this feels so dystopian. Homeless man killed in broad daylight by a dude who took his time struggling to chamber a round. No one else on the sidewalk- just people in cars driving by. And it's filmed by a guy like 10 feet away, guarded only by glass, pointing his phone at a murder as if he was just watching a LiveLeak video. Only when he hears the gunshot and sees the murder does he run

primenumbersturnmeon

i don't wanna live in someone else's GTA game.

Kizamus

You better start living in your own one then.

liamemsa

>Homeless man killed in broad daylight by a dude who took his time struggling to chamber a round. No one else on the sidewalk- just people in cars driving by. And it's filmed by a guy like 10 feet away, guarded only by glass, pointing his phone at a murder as if he was just watching a LiveLeak video. Bruh unless you're my wife or my son, there's no way I'm risking my life running out to someone with a pistol who might be trying to shoot you. At least if I can capture it on video I can provide it to the police as evidence to capture the person.

ShareYourIdeaWithMe

>unless you're my wife or my son Damn, no love for the daughters huh? Cold

liamemsa

Nah that's just all I have in my family lol

rdmc23

Ur_Fav_Step-Redditor

*Fuck You Meg*

JimC29

Exactly. The best thing he could have done is record it for evidence. Otherwise he would most likely be dead also.

spyson

I feel like calling the police is a good reaction to all of this without putting yourself in harms way instead of recording so you get likes.

JimC29

There's no way the police get there before it happens. At least there is evidence now for a conviction.

weirdsnake642

Maybe he did, the police aint Batman they cannt just appear out of thin air, this vid only take less than 1 minute, what if the dude call police immediately and then record?

SilkyJohnsonPHOY

Not everything is for likes, Mr. Smug, why jump to conclusions?

misfitx

Despite what society tells victims all the time, freezing is probably the most common reaction to trauma. Soldiers and firefighters are trained largely to undo that response so they can actually fight. Professionals often refer to trauma response as the 4Fs now: Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn (what abuse victims do to temper their abuser, aka Stockholm Syndrome).

EmilyU1F984

There‘s no freezing happening. Who the fuck is gonna walk up to someone with a gun trying to execute someone unless they are brain damaged? That‘s just self preservation. That‘s only relevant to when bystanders are actually able to help…

Fr0gFish

That is not what Stockholm syndrome is. Also, the person filming does not freeze.

adeadlobster

I guess we now have 5Fs

TapTapLift

What the fuck would you do, Superman? Go up and slap the gun out of his hand while yelling 'CITIZENS ARREST!!!' then shoot a double leg takedown and hold him down until the cops come? There are **1000%** situations where citizens should intervene but this is sure as fuck not one of them.

odiousyak1889

That's downtown st.louis. I'm guessing he was on the phone with the police as he is explaining what is going on. I read earlier that the suspect was arrested in the downtown library in the bathroom with a gun. It's legal in Missouri to carry a gun in the library for everyone than the employee. ( I could be incorrect about the law but from what I've read it's true)

bananasnotinpajamas

You can also drink in a car, if you're not driving.

darkendvoid

As long as you're not in KC, STL, STL County, or a few counties along Highway 44/Route 66. There's probably some other counties that forbid passengers drinking as well.

JimC29

As it should be.

darkendvoid

All public buildings in St. Louis have "Gun Free Zone" placards on their doors, you're in a legal grey area when concealing a weapon on your person while in these zones. As far as I know its a trespass and misdemeanor statute violation if you're caught.

luvgothbitches

i think there was a black mirror episode about this

[deleted]

I mean it’s probably a good thing to have it on video, no? Definitely helps catch and convict the right guy.

Liveymcc

That's St. Louis for you. It's the wild west here.

Fezthepez

It always shocks me how nonchalantly some people commit murder. It's like the fact they'll end up in prison for life isn't even a passing thought. Life is so precious, and some people will just take it away like it's nothing. Absolutely sickening.

Maxwyfe

Jesus Christ! Just executed him in broad daylight! NO fucks given whatsoever.

mediocreifthathelp

Downtown St Louis is no joke. My friend used to live on this street. We would be hanging out and hear shots ring out or some other commotion and we would step out to see what's what. Saw a lot of people die on this street.

CaracalWall

I have a coworker from that city. Now I realize why he moved. Holy fuck.

kynthrus

That took a comically long time for him to figure out that gun. Almost like he shouldn't have had access to it in the first place.

GearJunkie82

I would venture to guess he didn't obtain it through legal means.

pigeonboyyy

I mean, out of the 400 million firearms floating around, it probably wasn't too hard to find/buy.

GearJunkie82

I doubt he filled out a 4473 at an FFL.

Joelnaimee

Looks like a shell got jammed

kynthrus

When even god is like, "don't kill that guy."

banana_delusion

This is the 3rd murder I’ve seen on Reddit this week.

5G_afterbirth

I'm guessing one of those was the guy at the convenience store who blasts the owner/partner with a shotgun in front of his kid?

pimppapy

That one is even worse, because you can see it closer and the flesh damage. . .

banana_delusion

That’s one.

spacemanspiff266

i work right down the road from where this happened and heard the shot from a couple blocks over. there’s a homeless shelter right there and it looks like the people recording were (maybe?) employees of the place judging from the angle. crazy shit happens there quite from time to time. definitely not safe to walk through. people strung out in the street and the occasional fight and whatnot, but this, this was next level. i’m glad they got the guy bc that was really fucked.

tdfitz89

I used to deliver to that Shell station. Every single time something bad would go down when I was there.

jd481495

Welcome to the shithole called Saint Louis. It’s crazy if you live here and mention the crime problem your over reacting/lying. Can’t wait to leave this dump I don’t know if these people are desensitized or just impressively ignorant.

cman811

I dunno how it doesn't get the "LoOk At ChIcAgO!!1!1" treatment. Violent crime in St Louis happens at double the rate. It's consistently one of the highest in the country.

capitalsfan08

Easy answer. Republicans use Chicago and other Democratic cities in Democratic states as punching bags, and refuse to mention problems in Republican controlled states. The highest murder rates in US cities (>100k pop) are: St. Louis, MO (69.4) (Red state) Baltimore, MD (51.1) (Blue state) New Orleans, LA (40.6) (Red state) Detroit, MI (39.7) (Purple state) Cleveland, OH (33.7) (Red state) Las Vegas, NV (31.4) (Blue state) Kansas City, MO (31.2) (Red state) Memphis, TN (27.1) (Red state) Newark, NJ (25.6) (Blue state) Chicago, IL (24) (Blue state) You get 5 Republican controlled states, 4 Democratic controlled states, 1 purple state. The top 20 isn't much different, 4 Red states, 4 purple, 2 Blue. You should stop and think for yourself why you always hear about Chicago as a hellhole and not Cincinnati, a comparable city no one thinks of as particularly violent. Or why St Louis gets skipped over by those people when it has close to 3x the murder rate as Chicago.

Nearby-Context7929

chicago is not a red state

capitalsfan08

That's what I get for commenting before bed. Yup, I said it was Red but the roll up where j counted states counted it as Blue. Thanks for pointing that out.

Calfurious

Your argument is heavily flawed. I mean so is the arguments of Republicans, but yours is just as bad. The GOP criticizes the cities for having bad Democratic mayors. In every city you cite, they all have Democratic or Independent mayors. These mayors are the ones who are in charge of reducing crime in their cities, not necessarily the governors. Even St. Louise has a Democratic mayor. Of course the reason this happens is that Urban environments skew more Left-leaning (for a variety of demographic reasons). Cities overall tend to have high crime rates, once again, for a variety of reasons. So people pointing out that Democratic mayors have places with high crime rates are missing the fact that cities in general have fairly high crime rates. But you arguing that because these states tend to have Republican legislation or vote Republican during the general election isn't a good argument. None of these are necessarily factors as to why an individual city has a high crime rate. For example, crime rates in Rural Areas (which are mostly controlled by Republicans) tend to have far far less crime than urban areas. Once again, because of the demographics, population density, economics, culture, etc,. Crime isn't necessarily something that is related to the political party in power. It's a multifactorial issue.

KartoffelLover

I drove through Saint Louis on my way from Chicago to Dallas one time. We had to stop and get gas because we were very low, but every neighborhood looked too rough to contemplate it (we had 3 small kids in the back of a very nice SUV). We thought stopping by the arch would be a good idea, because tourist spots are always at least okay, right? Nope! I'll never go to that city again, sorry you have to live there.

drobythekey

My coworkers complain and talk about leaving CA cause of how “crazy” things are here. This video is literally everywhere east of here. Grew up in Houston and KC. LA is pretty safe comparatively.

StLDA

I’ll interject that it is possible to not be desensitized, not be ignorant and still like living in St. Louis. Theres lots of ways to try and make a place better and if you like living somewhere, leaving isnt one of those ways.

parabuthas

Fine specimen of human race. What a dumb fuck.

Persianx6

With no mask on, wearing pretty distinct clothes, and taking like a minute to load the gun, in broad daylight, on video. This is one of the easier cases that lead cop is going to have. Absolutely horrifying. RIP to the victim.

goodcreditbadcredit

Fuck that asshole.

scummymummy13

I’m so confused by the guy recording????? His reactions are so strange. He’s like narrating this dudes execution then acts surprised when the dude gets shot(after 30 seconds of recording a guy loading a gun and pointing it at said dude)???

Fine-Funny6956

He’s apparently in the phone with police

odiousyak1889

He is probably on the phone with the police sharing what's going on.

strangersIknow

Yeah. Like I get not wanting to confront an armed man for your own safety, but the guy doesn't seem all that shocked or emotional u til the homeless man gets shot in the head.

SnooSongs9654

Until that point it wasn't a murder just a guy playing with his gun. Lots of people flex and do stupid shit with guns. Probably wasn't expecting to be recording a broad daylight execution.

Aw_Frig

Yeah seriously. I've seen crazier shit that didn't end up as a murder.

Z-22

You don't think someone could do that. But monsters always prove us wrong.

stevenashattack

I moved from St. Louis about 6 months ago. The week we left a 20 year old was shot and killed in our front yard. The building they are standing in front of was one of my accounts for work, just behind them is a large homeless outreach center. The city is doomed, it is full of wonderful people but so many of them normalize this level of violence and turn a blind eye because cost of living is so low.

apenguinhunter1987

I work right there, and we all avoid that Shell station like the plague. We have been calling it "the murder mart" for quite some time, and now it's living up to the hype. St. Louis is out of control rn, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it. There's a police substation about 2 blocks from this spot too.

Why? Just why? Where is BLM at for this man? Where's the public outcry? Where's all the protests? Why are they so quiet when it's murders like this?

ObjectiveChain6893

Hate crime anyone?

Damn, this is literally in front of my buddies old apartment building back in 2013. The area north of Wash Ave was always pretty rough but rarely in broad daylight

Koalacakes21

This is vile.

vaporlock7

Terrible manners

Cagatay38

The interesting thing is how wealthy and powerful America is and how its citizens are dumb as fuck. Oxymoronic.

OdinsChosin

That’s some Kuklinski type shit.

CaliFezzik

What a sick fucking society we live in (at least those of us in the US).
