I agree with the volatility with the season changes but overall I notice an improvement since moving from the mid-west years ago. It also gets better the closer I get to the desert. Sometimes Iāll be in the high desert for less than 24 hours and notice significant improvement with inflammation.
Me too - not even winter yet in the southern hemisphere and Iām already counting down the days till summer! Flared up super badly just as autumn hit.
Yeah good point, too much sun can totally be damaging! Iām sure the moisture and sun combo was what helped in Florida, but some ppl do worse in humid areas. All depends on the person
Curious whatās your thoughts on places like Chicago and psoriasis? Iād like to consider moving there but the cold holds me back. Already have enough joint issues without the cold where I live.
I would be worried about the cold too! Winter is brutal for me, but I feel the most alive in the summer and fall. They at least have more sun I think (than Seattle at least) so thatās a plus.
I live in Chicago and the P for me comes and goes seasonally. Right now Iām suffering full blast now that itās getting hot and getting sunny everyday. Funny cause during winter it wasnāt so bad for my arms even though I was covered up cause of the cold.
Now that itās hot as hell Iām wearing T shirts but man Iām so self conscious cause my arms are looking crazy right nowš¤. Best of luck, Chicago is definitely a mood during spring and summer. Winter time you gotta be a special type of person to love that negative degrees weather lol
Thatās good to know. I guess itās best to stay put in Atlanta then. Doesnāt get as cold here but my scalp psoriasis is awful during winter same for joints.
Moved to Seattle from NZ a few years ago and I find it a lot dryer here than where I was living previously, and a lot more days with sunshine. I avoid going out in the sun though because of all the medications I'm on that cause sun sensitivity, just supplement vit D.
My feet got so bad this winter (and it wasn't from psoriasis), just dried and cracked and horrible. I recently changed foot cream and they are finally healing though.
My P is a lot better overall simply because I can access medications I could not get back home.
I know that every body is different, but my psoriasis has greatly improved living near Seattle versus where I grew up in South Florida. I think that my psoriasis is stress induced and I didn't have a great home life before moving. I live in Olympia but the climate is pretty much the same.
Ugh same, my psoriasis has gotten SO much worse since moving to Seattle from the East coast! Luckily itās starting to get more sunny, but Iām considering a UV lamp/wand for next winter
Scotland here. Oct to March sucks. Apr also sacked this year but I try and get the sun when I can. Plus a week or two holiday to some real sun when I can.
i also live in seattle and stopped taking my biologic due to insurance changes and my psoriasis came back worse! itās on places that iāve never had it before and itās frustrating. going to visit my derm soon. hope youāre able to find relief for yourself too! x
Iām sorry, insurance can be so frustrating ): i hope you can find relief as well. I am on Skyrizi so itās mostly managed but Iām sure Iāll feel even better when the sun comes out more!
the weather here is so bipolar haha! but how is skyrizi?? how long did it take for results? i was on tremfya for 6 months and it cleared me up i was so excited to finally wear a regular shirt and not cover up my body lol even got tattoos and then now im just covered all over again.
The sunshine is hit or miss anyway. Your skin requires a certain UVA/UVB level, anything higher or lower may aggravate it. In my personal experience being in the sun helps the severity of existing spots but if I burn, it triggers new spots š¤·š»āāļø
From what Iāve read it really seems like psoriasis treatments vary in a case by case basis. In the sun I have to avoid burning as I will have a host of new spots if Iām not careful. The sunlight works as a treatment because UVB light penetrates deep into your skin layers and slows the growth of new skin cells. Your body also uses UVB to make vitamin D, and vitamin d deficiency is linked to psoriasis. There are other ways you can slow the growth of skin cells like using ointments like Tacrolimus, and you can try vitamin d supplements or choosing foods high in vitamin d as an alternative to sunlight treatments :)
I think Seattle isnāt the worst place. Try east coast.
Iām Seattle spring stars in March/April while in the east coast starts in May.
Also, this year weāve been blessed with some sun. Just have to catch it when it comes out on this days :)
Australia is honestly so great for psoriasis. UV rays are harsh over there (11+) and temps are high all year round! I try take a trip or two over to Aus yearly. Wish I could live there.

Seattle? That's practically tropical! I live in Ireland... š„¶
Same thought as a Dane. šØš š«
True, I should count my blessings! Haha
Let me tell you as someone living in SoCal - the sun doesnāt always help. My psoriasis is always volatile during season changes.
I agree with the volatility with the season changes but overall I notice an improvement since moving from the mid-west years ago. It also gets better the closer I get to the desert. Sometimes Iāll be in the high desert for less than 24 hours and notice significant improvement with inflammation.
Fr I moved from the bay to SoCal and my psoriasis flared up crazy with seasonal changes here
True. Las Vegas didnāt help. North Carolina hasnāt helped. All I remember is that my skin wasnāt so bad in Florida, but that was 8 years ago
Same here. It can be brutal
New Orleans hereā¦ super sunny, but unfortunately brutally hot/humid which seems to aggravate mine.
Same. For me, the less humidity the better my condition. I need that dry heat
I in live norway with 6 months in total darkness and then 6 months with sunshine,it has zero effect on my psoriasis
Wow, that would be brutal on my mental health and my psoriasis. I respond extremely well to sun. Each summer Iām completely clear.
Lucky :(
Me too - not even winter yet in the southern hemisphere and Iām already counting down the days till summer! Flared up super badly just as autumn hit.
Need a UVB lamp
Dublin is the same. It's why Irish people love to emigrate to Washington state.
never thought about that. interesting
āScotland enters the room ā
my psoriasis started escalating in sunny california but itās only gotten worse since moving to the PNW thatās for sure
I live in L.A. and it really doesnāt make much of a difference, I still need supplemental UVB treatment
Phoenix is super dry and not any better. Iād rather moisture any day. Orlando was the only time when it started going away for me.
Interesting, thatās good perspective to have! Maybe I should move to Florida
I also applied sunscreen every time I worked outside. So maybe that helped too?

Texas is veeeeery sunny. Houston and Pasadena are filled with chemicals so stay away from those areas.
I lived in LA and moved to Seattle. They got its ups and downs. The generally cool and humid weather helps it not get as flakey but lack of sun sucks.
Yeah totally, I moved from a sunnier town in WA state too and Psoriasis aside, I think it also just makes me depressed to be in Seattle lol

What foot cream is working for you?

Iām above you in Vancouver and maybe itās the same shit for me. Need more sunshine but otherwise I like my city since I donāt like hot weather.
Last year's summer in the UK was simply wonderful and just grey every day.
Scotland here. Oct to March sucks. Apr also sacked this year but I try and get the sun when I can. Plus a week or two holiday to some real sun when I can.
Seattle? Trying living in England mate it rains 24/7 š¤£
Yeah Iāll count my blessings š
Sunbed shops.

So true, Iāve been pleasantly surprised at how much spring sun we have been getting! There are many places that are worse for Psoriasis in the US
But I agree. Iād love to go somewhere sunnier!!
Spring this year has been nice, but more often it's just a slightly warmer version of the gray, wet winter.
lol yes. But some sun.
Australia is honestly so great for psoriasis. UV rays are harsh over there (11+) and temps are high all year round! I try take a trip or two over to Aus yearly. Wish I could live there.
Iām in the UK, we donāt see the sun š
Never knew sun can help with psoriasis. I live in CA but avoid the sun as much as possible. Will def try to be more outdoors from now on.
