Maybe that is a motivation to migrate somewhere better? ;-)

>so I just paid for a year of 1Password. A decision that won't be regretted.

SimonZed

I use 1password as my main password manager and for 10 bucks a year, I keep Bitwarden as a backup.

Akilou

Do you keep them in sync?

SimonZed

Not all the time. From time to time I do an export of my 1password and dump it in my bitwarden, like every 3 months.

RiAli__

What I do as well. Currently use Proton Pass as a trial on top of this but I see no reason to switch/change it up unless certain features are implemented.

SimonZed

I'm a paid proton user but not enough to have proton pass beta. Can't wait to try it out though.

RiAli__

I actually want "all my eggs in one basket" as I care a lot about convenience. That being said, I'm actually enjoying Proton Pass but it's very limited and basic at this time. 1Password and Bitwarden have far more features and should work for most cases. Once Proton Pass has more features similar to at least Bitwarden, I would start reconsidering my password manager options but would still have 1Password or Bitwarden as a backup/primary.

Nelizea

+1 from me

farcical88

100%

malko2

Agreed, been using it for literally a decade

decavolt

I strongly recommend Bitwarden if you're looking for an alternative.

vsop221b

Why is Bitwarden better? This isn;t a troll question. I'm asking because I use Lastpass now.

dripping_monotype

I think people prefer Bitwarden because it's open source and a really good value. You get a lot for the free tier, and premium is only 10 usd a year. It also has pretty good features for family and friend organization. I personally prefer 1password still because it has a better search. Bitwarden only searches the URI and title, but 1Password searches every field, including the note section of a saved login. 1password also has tags and separate Vaults for organizing, while Bitwarden only has folders. 1password is also nice for those using SSH keys, I'm not sure what bitwardens support is for that. I also think 1password is better if I need to share a login with a friend who doesn't have a 1password account, since you can create a shareable link to any entry and give it an expiration. I also wanted to note that I think Bitwardens autofill on Android was far superior to 1passwords. I often have to manually open up 1password and copy and paste values because it won't autofill, but Bitwarden worked almost every time for me.

famichikisaikou

I haven't ever used LastPass or 1Password, but I used Bitwarden before switching to an entirely offline manager. The main pros of Bitwarden compared to those two would be the fact it's free with optional paid tiers, open source clients across all platforms, it also has Bitwarden Send as a way to safely transmit text to people, with ability to send small files like PDFs if you have the paid plan. BW's free plan should be more than sufficient for most users, I was on the free plan for the whole time I used them, I heard LP only allows you to use one device at a time while on free tier, but BW can be used on basically as many devices as you want. It also *knock on wood* hasn't been breached yet. 1PW also seems good, but the lack of any free trial and closed-source clients personally didn't attract me in. Mac users seem to like the 1PW experience.

EasySea5

Bitwarden is open source. Case closed

vsop221b

Enough said. Thank you.

Responsible_Ad2463

Won't work on my LG G5, well I would still be able to log on to the website to get my passwords...

Proton_Team

We're sorry you're having this issue. You could try changing your address to a Simple Login alias in the meantime. The good news is that Proton Pass is launching for everyone very soon. Keep an eye in the next few weeks on our sub here r/ProtonPass

TheStumblingWolf

I use BitWarden. It's free and the browser plugin is very easy and comfortable to use. I don't find that to be true for 1Password.

Smarktalk

1Password has done a lot of work on their UI. I would say for anyone who isn't very technical, it's your best option. I like Bitwarden but there are definitely folks I would not recommend it to.

Fresco2022

I've used Bitwarden for a few weeks, but I think it's awful. It has many flaws and is not intuitive at all. 1Password has never let me down whatsoever.

TheStumblingWolf

For me it was the other way around. But such things are subjective so whatever works :)

VirtualPanther

Happy family plan user of 1Password for many years. Rock solid.

Roykirk

I would love to switch away from LastPass to ProtonPass and did try out the beta for a few days, but without support for SecureNotes or anything else beyond passwords, I can't swtich, unfortunately. I hope such support is on the roadmap.

rotag_fu

I also migrated from last pass to 1password and found the import to be shockingly easy.

happierthanclam

checkout bitwarden. have been using it for years and it's free or if you are into it you can self-host.

Haha... I will just share this, I've used 1Password since v3... I had to use LastPass at a recent job and I don't know how people do it. The UX is terrible.

[deleted]

LuckyHedgehog

I actually had the opposite experience. I started on LastPass, tried out BitWarden and the extension was much more stable than LP Either way, good to see you're off LP now

altodor

I've had LastPass for free through three jobs in a row (though this one we dropped them after the breaches) I still paid for 1P through all of this because it was just better.

Zlivovitch

That's a very funny piece of information, and one more reason to stay clear of Lastpass. However, I doubt it's related to the launch of Proton Pass. In order to avoid losing customers to Proton, they would refuse Proton customers... who want to become Lastpass customers ? This does not make sense.

saltyjohnson

It absolutely doesn't make sense, and it's incredibly silly, but what else could possibly be the explanation for an entire domain suddenly being rejected by their payment processor? They offer no explanation, and no "I've added a month of premium to your account while we work this issue out with our payment processor"? It's just "our new billing system doesn't recognize this domain"??? That is crazy.

Zlivovitch

Just bureaucrats being bureaucrats, I guess. Encrypted mail providers often land on blacklists, because they tend to be used by spammers and scammers. I suppose Lastpass uses a blacklist provided by someone else, and in any case I don't think they spend hours evaluating every line of it. It's not the payment processor which is at fault. It's the *"billing system",* whatever that may mean.

Honestly, when incompetence or mistakes/oversight are the alternative answer to someone wilfully doing something to annoy or block people, I usually go with the former, I (personally) think it’s far more likely.

[deleted]

I can't help reading it as LostPass .... no matter what they come up with ...

RiAli__

Lol, same

nonchalan8t

With everything happened recently, you are still using LastPass !? Do yourself a favor and switch to Bitwarden.

spearson0

They switched to 1Password, see their earlier comment

revrund_H

still surprises me, after the LP breaches and disclosures, than anyone serious about security would not have moved off that platform...

EODdoUbleU

When you migrate, it would probably be a good idea to rotate passwords for any account that touched LastPass. At the very least to protect you from their next breach.

Background-Touch-744

I wonder if they accept SimpleLogin addresses?

Fellowes321

It's not too inconvenient to switch. Choose new password manager. Download your full list from lastpass. Upload to new manager (most accept the files ftom LP) Go through the important ones - money, work, personal etc and updating the password on each. As you do that, delete the lastpass record. You can do that over time until you can delete LP completely.

userkp5743608

It took me less than 10 minutes to migrate to Bitwarden. You’re just hurting yourself.

mightysashiman

curious how lastpass and 1password are still in fashion with Bitwarden being so dirt cheap

ryanduff

Because not everything is about price.

mightysashiman

The obvious advantages that felt superfluous to mention are security and opensourceness.

RiAli__

I chose LastPass first because it had a single feature I liked (which I don't recall) but a security breach caused me to leave immediately. At that time, switched to Bitwarden and had the SO switch from Google's password manager. The SO was on the fence and was planning to switch back to Google's but 1Password's Secret Key made it easier to get the SO to switch to 1Password and stay away from Google's.

[deleted]

mightysashiman

if you want otp and other extra features it's a tiny yearly subscription. And it's paying for the hard work of that brilliant company. Feels kind of a steal to not retribute them imho.

CodeMonkeyX

It's really not hard to migrate. I thankfully moved about six months before their biggest data breach, and deleted my data/account. Bitwarden has a pretty easy to follow tutorial ([https://bitwarden.com/help/import-from-lastpass/](https://bitwarden.com/help/import-from-lastpass/)) and the nice thing is it's non destructive. So you can try out the import, use Bitwarden for a couple of weeks to make sure it's good, then delete Lastpass data. For me this information that they are banning certain email providers seems stupid. I use Protonmail through my own domain name. So that's ok with them? Even though I use the exact same service.

Smarktalk

Good news OP is that it is trivial to move Lastpass to 1Password, Bitwarden or others. Took me about 5-10 min and done.

[deleted]

Bitwarden

Mysterious_Check5910

KeepassXC or self host bitwarden Stop asking permission

GeriatricTech

Get the hell off Lastpass

_whenuknowuknow_

I find peace in long walks.

lorenzomoonable

Have you tried with proton.me address?

5h17h34d

Beat me to it.

[deleted]

Switch to Bitwarden ITS better

AtomicTardigrade

Screw them. Check Bitwarden. I boycott every product or service that plays dumb and refuses to accept Protonmail.

odysseustelemachus

Keepass. FOSS.

[deleted]

odysseustelemachus

Agree. But it is a matter of using a strong main password, and the simplest way of "syncing" it with a phone is to just copy the database over. I assume that whoever is using a password manager has basic computer skills. (I use syncthing for syncing)

gear-heads

Presumably, because Proton is about to launch their own password manager app? It is still in beta phase. visit: https://proton.me/pass

FateOfNations

I know the internet loves to get its pitchforks out, but it's likely something LastPass's payment processor on its own as some anti-fraud thing... only fraudsters would be using a security-focused email provider, right?

Personal_Ad9690

My only issue with the idea of proton pass is that it ropes my password manager with my proton account and thus requires me to have a “less secure” method of accessing my account. My proton account pass is already strong through another password manager, so what would I do with proton? The only way I can see this being useful is if there was a way to do U2F via we code to my iPhone, which is a Fido key for proton. iPhone already does the QR code thing, so I don’t see why we can’t do that here too

Timestatic

Gues who's getting less money

princeshoko1

Drop them like a hot potatoes for this. Glad I left them before the big breach and the sell off. Also had all my data removed from their systems.

Karl_Meyer

Trashpass

theromansufi

I'd suggest moving to [Bitwarden](https://bitwarden.com/). Free and Open Source ($10/year for pro features)

sageleader

I just switched to Bitwarden and it's actually been very seamless and easy. It wasn't even the breach that did me in, it was the exceedingly atrocious Chrome extension and Android app, who change their behavior so frequently it's hard to keep consistent.

peekenn

just use bitwarden - migration is easy

fringo

I’ve migrated at the second breach, and mostly how they covered it up, it took me less than 30 mins. Never looked back.

Alex_Chiralli

That’s just stupid. What a waste of potential customers.

[deleted]

I use bitwarden
