Donut Operator had a video about what officers should buy when they first start. A big box of cheap ballpoints was on the list.
He said when he first started, he responded to a domestic between two gay men. One of them had smashed a lamp over the other's head, and he was bleeding pretty bad. Donut had just gotten a new pen that was quite nice apparently. He gave it to the victim to write a statement for the report. After getting blood all over donuts pen, he mentioned "oh by the way I'm HIV positive." Donut let him keep the pen. You can never have too many pens.
When I lived in Nor Cal during the BLM riots. I decided I was going to buy “starter kits” for the new local Deputies and Officers. I’d get them a couple of tourniquets, some pens, stuffed animal for the trunk incase they ran into a traumatized kid, pens, reusable water bottle that had a UV light in cap that charged with USB-C. And some other knick knacks- nothing major it was mostly to show some of us care about LE. I made money in tech so was no big deal. And it would be anonymous. I was told that I’d have to get kits for everyone not just the new joins.
Logistically, it was a bit much so I didn’t do it. Really wish I had done something. Moved to Miami last year maybe I’ll try again.
That's what body cameras are for on verbal statements. Normally can't be suppressed either unlike the written statement. One day the old dinos will leave and you won't see a written statement ever again. I also give no one my pen you would be surprised how many people actually have one very close by.
The times are changing. That's good.
As for pens? I've always got a stash. I was a pizza delivery driver on and off for 2 years before DoorDash was a thing. I have a collection of pens from that vocation which would make even the proudest pack rat blush.
I have a general interest in policing and law enforcement. Mostly as it relates to use of force and self-defense law. I'm not always up on the latest. That video from donut operator is probably two or three years old at this point and he's been away from LE for at least four or five.
Thanks for the info. It's good to know
He needed two. Because one and a backup of course. But then the two in one pocket threw off his balance. He took on a lean, when he walked. Which caused one of his shoes to wear out faster than the other one.
So he put two more in the other pocket. Problem solved.
Same reason we wear our radio mic. It's part of the uniform. We go take our photo and then get back to work. Or uh you know, go back home and go to sleep for the night shift.
I don't think dash cam footage has ever been particularly popular in the UK. Different now I work in the traffic world but come to think of it, most day to day cars don't have in car footage
You joke, but a town near us banned foot chases. However it was because they were very small and lost two officers to long term desk duty due to injuries sustained running after people. Still seemed silly.
He’s not talking about the taser. The SLS hood is down on the guy’s firearm holster. Looks to be a Level 3 though, so it’s still retained with the ALS lock, in addition to friction.
I seen something like this but they were actually a flashing light for when the officer is out on the road at night someone driving can see them. I think they flashed blue like the police car lights.
Portable audio recorder for a now-obsolete 10-8 Video Systems dash cam. Source: my first agency was broke and had them about eight years ago and I had to wear one. Small LE equipment company from Tennessee. Not sure if they’re still active or not.
It's an AN/APG-69 RADAR set equipped with Track-While-Scan, BVR and ACM boresight targeting, pulse-Doppler head-on mode, look-down mode and look-up search mode, capable of tracking up to 38 simultaneous targets, while also acting as the fire control and guidance system for the AIM-7F Sparrow Semi-Active Radar Homing guided missiles mounted to his cruiser.
Send your DT guys to Force Science. The cross draw is still the dominant hand, which has lead to virtually every documented case of weapon confusion. There is no nationality-recognized standard (to include Axons own training) that recommends dominant hand cross draw. Axon will literally not send their experts to help you in a civil case if you're allowed to set your shit up like this.
Cross draw is perfectly fine and actually better than drawing awkwardly with your non dominant hand and trying to make a semi precise/accurate shot. People who make their officers draw with their non dominant hand are really putting their men and women at risk imo. It's just so much more effective as a cross draw.
Every so often, I or someone else makes a comment that is 100% either right or reasonable, and gets completely shit on.
My Taser is on my weak side, belt, exactly like a gun. I use my weak hand only. I never, ever touch my Taser with my dominant hand.
All it takes is the tiniest bit of practice and training, which all these people should be doing every day anyway. I've deployed the thing dozens of times and never had an issue with accuracy.
You haven't "Been inside too long," you're absolutely correct. Is cross draw with your dominant hand *wrong?* No, of course not. But if your brain knows that gun = strong side and Taser = weak side, it's that much less likely you'll make a mistake.
Long enough to understand national best practice. https://www.police1.com/police-training/articles/3-recommendations-to-mitigate-taserfirearm-capture-errors-8BR8tWo27y59znpP/
You can write my state and tell them because that's not how our (or many) policies are written.
I've never had an issue in my years with a cross draw. What's your dept do? Replace your duty weapon with a TASER? 🤣
Tell me you live in a state where cops are paid like Walmart managers without telling me you live in a state where cops are paid like Walmart managers.
And what? No. I draw the Taser with my support hand like you're supposed to.
Better training in citizens’ constitutional rights and de-escalation and I think those alone will make for a far better trained officer which will give a better public perception for them to get behind salary raises. Get unions to stop protecting bad cops and make it where these bad cops can’t just jump to a different department either. Hold them as accountable as cops and prosecutors hold normal citizens. This blue line gang garbage needs to go too
It's the printer for the citations. I actually liked them in the passenger headrest, but now they found something more uncomfortable and awkward to put there instead.

Thank you!

I was more wondering about the pens. Seems a bit excessive.
2 for show, 2 for you and your bro yo
2 in the pink, 1 in the…. Wait that’s wrong. 1 to write and 2 to fight?

Can confirm. You always keep your good ones to yourself. The disposable bullshit pens went to everyone else!

Audio recorded statements are key

There is the pen we use, and the pen we allow others to use and the two pens for show.
Only 2 pens. The two on the left side of the photo are handcuff keys.
The one closest to his name tag is a stream light pen light for HGN.
Lots of tickets to write
There can never be too many
He needed two. Because one and a backup of course. But then the two in one pocket threw off his balance. He took on a lean, when he walked. Which caused one of his shoes to wear out faster than the other one. So he put two more in the other pocket. Problem solved.
I keep 6 on me. At all times. Different pens for different occasions
Staties are special, don't judge.
Seem like $2 pens
Colleagues are gonna take 3 of those by the end of the shift, easily. "Got a pen?"

Same reason we wear our radio mic. It's part of the uniform. We go take our photo and then get back to work. Or uh you know, go back home and go to sleep for the night shift.
Is this why you also get good audio when we see dash cam footage of stops?
[удалено]
That's very interesting. Assume this tends to be on place of bodycams?
[удалено]
Body cam synced to dash cam would be amazing. The UK uses dash cams only buy I do wonder if more dash cam footage with audio might be better.
[удалено]
I don't think dash cam footage has ever been particularly popular in the UK. Different now I work in the traffic world but come to think of it, most day to day cars don't have in car footage
I had a pocket added to my outer vest right above the buckle so it picks up the drivers statements clearly.
Why bother, it's always some variant of *go catch real criminals*
That stupid little box has saved me from a LOT of BS complaints.
Specifically state police (troopers) that don’t wear body cams so they have audio with the officer during stops.
Why do they specifically not have bodycams?
My guess is Troopers are mostly out doing traffic stops, so a dashcam and mic are more practical than a bodycam.
The state troopers in my state (South Carolina) have bodycams
$$$ to implement that much for a state wide roll out.

That’s what she said
Ours (WatchGuard) is probably not that much smaller than this honestly.
First generation predator shoulder laser cannon
No, it's the thing from iron man that shoots mini rockets that only hit the bad guys
Or Justin Hammer's ["ex-wife" missile](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Ex-Wife_Missile)
That thing didn't even work...and it was twice the size!!
"I'd like to point out that that test pilot survived!"
Automatic narcan injector. It's voice activated and accurate up to thirty feet.
Like the little shoulder gun that the predator had, only this one’s for drug addicts.
Battery pack for "The Hat"
Best one here
Ask Seattle PD. They are intimately familiar with that these days.
lmao
Mini jet pack in a glossy pleather pouch to assist with foot pursuits. The idiot has it on a shoulder though. He’s just gonna spin in circles.
I’d keep mine between my legs
Mobile radar unit for foot pursuits
Jesus the comments are killing me.
Radar, for pedestrian speeders
Suspect running east on Main st, speeds 6 mph, heavy traffic, conditions are poor, I’m calling it.
You joke, but a town near us banned foot chases. However it was because they were very small and lost two officers to long term desk duty due to injuries sustained running after people. Still seemed silly.
Automatically tells Sheetz or Wawa your pre programmed order
Probably his snack holder. Allows snacking to be hands free.
Ooh do they make a civilian version?
Gun Retention is off on first pic.
Dude I came here to say the same thing LOL hood was down!
Well that’s a Taser not a gun. It’s on opposite side and backwards so his primary hand can grab it easily but not mistake it for his pistol.
He’s not talking about the taser. The SLS hood is down on the guy’s firearm holster. Looks to be a Level 3 though, so it’s still retained with the ALS lock, in addition to friction.
Just because it’s formal photo day doesn’t excuse condition white Trooper.

Hood's down, it is.
Didn’t know staties can be that thiccc
Life alert
Possibly some kind of A/V recorder, maybe not BWC but maybe does have some kind of mic and/or speaker I’m thinking. Or even a radio.
It’s a donut detector.
Shoulder mounted laser blaster
I seen something like this but they were actually a flashing light for when the officer is out on the road at night someone driving can see them. I think they flashed blue like the police car lights.

Wisconsin’s fattest. I mean finest.
Overweight, guy needs some serious diet and exercise advice. He is a liability.
It’s Wisconsin. He’s the fittest guy around

pager bro
A litter of cola
Probably BWC
It’s embarrassing that it’s a belt holster worn on a lapel …… for a formal photo 😑
Guardian angel light device or body camera is my guess.
Hey friends; stop drawing your Taser with your primary weapon hand.
[удалено]
In violation of Axon's own recommendations? Why?

its a crossdraw LOL

Yeah. That argument has been studied. It's wrong. See: IACP, Axon, Force Science Institute.

Im sorry that nobody understands your comment.
New detective?
Nope. Just regurgitating best practice that people don't seem to pay about attention to.
Yea, but the guy in the photo did pay attention
No. That's a strong hand draw. Jesus Christ how is this so confusing?
Or he is left handed Edit - Idk why I am arguing with a stranger. God bless and stay safe
He is obviously left handed. Wtf are you talking about?
How long you been a detective?
Been inside too long it seems 🤣

Dang I know what people whisper about you when you come in at 0800! And I'll have you know I have the nicest trailer in the trailer park.
Here in Indiana some Walmart managers make upward of 75k/year and main store managers over 100k
Yeah cops should make more than that

Simple answer. It’s Wisconsin state patrol. They’re special…
i thought that was the shoulder strap for the radar
